Lonely Maiden Filming on Newbury Today?
2007-11-30 10:03:00
Anyone know if the Lonely Maiden will be filming some where on Newbury St. today or not? I saw these pictures as I was walking to work today.I snapped these shots on Newbury St. inbetween Arlington and Berkeley. I'm assuming that they're filming somewhere close by and this is where they're going to break for meals. They might not be on Newbury specifically, but where there is food there are people. If you're looking for moviestars, roam around downtown before 6pm and maybe you'll see some. The Lonely Maiden stars: Morgan Freeman, William H. Macey, and Christopher Walken.Know of Any Interesting Boston News or Events That You'd Like to Share?Email me at beantownblog@gmail.com ...

Sweeney Todd In Theaters This December
2007-11-29 14:25:00
Did you miss your chance to see the musical Sweeney Todd while it was in Boston? I did too. Fret not, there's a movie version coming to theaters soon - Christmas-time.There's a few things about this movie that have already put it on my "To Watch" list: Tim Burton directing, Johnny Depp acting, and the overall revenge plot line. I love revenge movies - righting the wrong - that type of movie. My favorite book (the movie was ok) is the Count of Monte Cristo. It has to be the pinnacle of revenge movies. But it goes beyond just killing your enemies. Edmond Dantes spends decades transforming himself from a poor sailor into the Count of Monte Cristo before stripping his enemies of everything. The best scene from the movie arrives in the end when his enemy Fernand is stripped of all his riches, his wife, and then it's revealed to him that even his son is not his own. Utter destruction. What goes around comes around right? He deserved it.This is basically what happens to Sweeney T ...

North End Caffe Graffiti To Close Soon
2007-11-27 15:41:00
This is nuts, I was just at Caffe Graffiti this past Saturday and there was no indication whatsoever that it was closing. According to an article in the Globe a couple of days ago it could close "as soon as Friday."So the close date is up in the air? Any regulars at Caffe Graffiti have the inside scoop on when it will really close down?Damien DiPaola, the landlord is expected to start a restaurant at that site now that he's sold his other restaurant: Carmelina's (in Hadley). He said he now wants to operate a smaller restaurant with about 40 seats in the bustling North End. He's planning a tapas-style menu, with small samplings of Italian cuisine served from morning to late night.Well, my advice to everyone is to assume the worst and that it's closing this Friday. If that's the case, hurry down there and have a cappuccino and some hazelnut gelato before it's too late. First Bob's Southern Bistro closes, now this. Oy. NE International Auto Show - 11/28
2007-11-26 09:38:00
Coming up on Wednesday 11/28 and running until 12/2 is the New England International Autoshow. I'm not very big into cars, but I have plenty of friends that are. The New England Auto Show is an annual showcase of the newest model year import and domestic vehicles -- cars, vans, light trucks and sport utilities. Factory representatives from the car lines are on hand to answer your questions in a no pressure environment. There are cars to suit every budget and life style. With the car lines all under one roof, it's easy to compare prices and features, saving both time and money. The Auto Show is great entertainment for serious shoppers, car buffs and the entire family!I did go to an Import Car show about four years ago. They had lots of souped up Civics and such. It was fun to see how many tv screens you could fit into one car. This car show is claiming to have nine football fields worth of cars, hybrids, crossovers, SUVs, vans, and trucks. Along with some new concept cars.Click (he ...

The Harbor Towers Nightmare
2007-11-23 19:49:00
I've been very anxious to see how this debacle turns out. For those of you that haven't heard about it, there's been some issues with the Harbor Towers on the Waterfront. First off, a little history. The Harbor Towers apartment complex was completed in 1971 by the Berenson Corporation, as an affordable housing option near Boston's financial district. Designed by I.M. Pei, in conjunction with a local Boston architect, who also collaborated with Pei on the design of Boston's City Hall, the towers are well known in the architectural community. At 40 stories, they are the city's tallest residential towers (here). The most recent news is that the Harbor Towers needs renovations and they're passing the cost on to the condo owners - $75 million dollars worth. According to a recent article in the Globe, the cost per condo owner is "$70,000 to $400,000 or more each - equaling about 20 percent of the units' market value."A group of condo owners had banned together to file a suit aga ...

Dr. Huxtable Coming to Boston
2007-11-21 10:14:00
Any other folks out there a product of the 80's like I was? Watching the Cosby Show was a nightly ritual for me and my family. And compared to the shows today, it was definitely clean entertainment. My childhood was a whole lot of Cosby Show and Full House. Speaking of Full House - one of the Olsen twins is now on Weeds (Showtime series) playing a marijuana smoking church girl. Just another sign of how times have changed. Anyhoo, Bill Cosby is on tour and he's coming to Boston for two shows on Saturday, March 1st at the Opera House. According to the Ticketmaster site, it looks like it will be a family-appropriate show.Evening performances are recommended for ages 6 and up. Matinee performances are all ages.Click (here) to get tickets for the 5pm show or click (here) to get tickets for the 8:30pm show.Has anyone seen Bill Cosby perform live before? I'm trying to decide if I want to go or not. Any experiences you guys have had would help. Thanks.Know of Any Interesting Bost ...

Car Insurance Prices To Decline
2007-11-20 17:55:00
Good news, I saved a bundle with Geico. That's what I'm hoping I'll be able to say in about six months. If you haven't been keeping up with the news, the state has been working on a plan to switch to a competitive auto insurance as opposed to being fixed by the state (which it has been for the past 30 years). This is huge news, so huge it was on the front cover of the Globe today. According to the article, auto rates will be cut on average of 7.7% New rates go into effect April 1st of next year. See below for average premium reductions by company. Not everyone is going to get a decrease though. If you're a terrible driver (or just an unlucky driver) and you have lots of tickets/accidents. Your rates will probably go up.Rates are locked in by next Tuesday, so it may be worthwhile to call your insurance company after the holidays to see what's going to happen to your rates. Also, the article states that no new insurance companies have entered the mix yet, so my lil statement ...
