Matt Light Appearance - 12/8
2007-12-07 14:11:00
Matt Light is going to be at the new Circuit City in Foxboro tomorrow 12/8 from noon to 1pm. Only a one hour window, so if you're die hard Patriots fan and want to meet him be sure to be on time. For those of you that aren't into sports click (here) to read his bio.Matt's going to be there for something called the Samsung HD Tour '07 and the most important part is that obviously the free stuff you could potentially get. They're giving away $100 gift cards if you purchase certain Samsung TVs and they've also got a Madden '08 competition where you're competing for a $100 gift card. All that practice at home playing online versus 12 yr olds has finally paid off. Head over to Foxboro tomorrow and kick some Madden butt and go home with a gift card that you can spend on more video games. I would recommend Guitar Hero III or Rock Band. And while you're down there, head over to Bass Pro Shops. I blogged about it (here).PS. Buy a Vizio TV not a Samsung - way better value. Unless ...
Passion of the Scrooge - 12/8
2007-12-07 13:57:00
Everyone getting into the holiday spirit yet? I was having a bit of a bah humbug moment earlier this week with that blog that was ripping off my content. But I'm good now. It's Friday afterall. Happy Friday everyone! For those of you that are looking for something for the whole family to do together this Saturday, consider the 4th Annual Passion of the Scrooge concert.Selected as a holiday “Critic’s Pick” (Boston Globe) for two consecutive years, The Passion of the Scrooge brilliantly executes the essence of Dicken’s wonderful literary tale. Conceived and composed by Jon Deak, each character is depicted by its instrumental counterpart resulting in the musicians singing, acting, humming, and even clanking the chains of Marley’s ghost. Led by conductor Chris Kim, the 10-member Firebird Ensemble is joined by the exquisite vocal and acting abilities of highly acclaimed baritone Aaron Engebreth as narrator. Other familiar holiday music on the program includes A Not-So Tradi ...

Best Public High Schools in MA
2007-12-06 13:34:00
This week's US New and World Report has a cover story on the 100 top public schools in America. This is most likely a lot more important to the parents out there, but I will admit that I've thought about this myself. It's mini-storytime, but before I start, you should know that the #1 school this year was Thomas Jefferson High (TJ) in Alexandria, VA.If you live in Boston, chances are pretty good that you know someone from TJ. I know probably a dozen. Every year, TJ sends LOTS of their students to top notch universities in Boston like MIT and Harvard. One of my frat brothers that I still hang out with a lot is from TJ. Let's just say that his high school education and my high school education (I went to a regular public school in Texas) were drastically different. To quote the article "Boston Latin is so much harder than what we do in college." I don't know where that girl went to school, but my experience was the exact opposite. High school was easy, MIT was hard. Here is ...
Write Your Own Content - Conclusion
2007-12-06 13:14:00
Well this story unfolded fairly fast. Thanks to all the readers out there that sent me emails and comments with tips on how to deal with the problem blog that was stealing content from me and most likely a handful of other blogs - my original post (here).Just to update everyone, the offending site is down. Thanks again for all your support. I did get one very suspicious comment that I think is from the site owner. Comment was anonymous and said:Actually, it's your RSS feed that AllBostonBlog was pulling. It was supposed to give you full credit and a link back to your site, but their was a glitch in the system...but they have deleted your feed and posts now...good luck. Hi Anonymous, how do you know it was supposed to give me full credit? And if it was, why did "they" (when i say "they" i mean "you") take my daily signoff asking folks to email me if they have news or events to share and replace my email address with their (your) own? If you pulled an RSS feed, my email address w ...

2007-12-06 13:00:00
This is for all you fashion folks out there and perhaps those of you who like to spend time out in the cold weather and look good doing it. Personally, I shop on the sale racks at clothing stores (so I'm rarely "in-style" and spend as little time outdoors as possible (Me + Cold = Sad). The North Face NSE Collection, a limited edition special collector's release (fewer than 400 units) direct from Goldwin Japan. The collection is being shipped direct from The North Face Japan for an exclusive, limited U.S. release and is being sold in Boston on December 8th at Bodega in Boston, 6 Clearway Street, Boston, MA.Here's a link to the store's site and a few more bits of trivia on the collection:-The North Face NSE Collection was inspired by the white birch forests of Japan's Kitakami Mountains.-Engineered specifically for Japanese snowboard and ski enthusiasts demanding the highest quality products, the NSE Collection highlights the latest technical innovations in insulation, construction, ...
Write Your Own Content BIATCH!
2007-12-05 15:55:00
They say that imitation is the highest form of flattery. Apparently AllBostonBlog.com is trying to flatter me. But it's not working. Someone out there is trying to profit off my hours of work. Whoever you are out there (and I know you're reading because you've been copying every single one of my posts word for word except when swapping in your own email address at the end) - know that I loathe you. Check out the imposter (here). For all of the loyal Beantown Bloggery readers out there, I appreciate you guys. Special thanks to reader Dan who brought this to my attention. Basically here's how it works, someone copies my content, fills his page with ads, and then hopes that people read MY content and click on HIS ads so that he profits. GRRR.......What have I done about this? So far, I've sent a cease and desist letter to the admin at AllBostonBlog and I've also reported him to Google Adsense as a violation of their policy. If you guys have a few spare minutes and wouldn't ...

Playboy Models at Gypsy Bar - 12/7
2007-12-05 01:07:00
Did I get your attention? Or at least the attention of all the male readers? I thought so. Happy Hump Day. Just like you are, I'm already thinking about the weekend. And this weekend is going to be filled with Playboy Playmates. w00t.Sara Jean Underwood, Playmate of the Year 2007 and featured guest on E!’s “The Girls Next Door” along with her fellow playmates Penelope Jimenez, Lauren Anderson, Hiromi Oshima, the first and only Japanese Playmate ever, will help Santa Claus hand out goodies to all the wicked boys and girls at Gypsy Bar on Friday December 7th.Wow....it was actually quite tough to find a picture of her to post that's work-friendly. I'm not in the business of getting anyone fired, so if you want additional pictures, google her yourself. BTW, I highly encourage you to read my blog while at work. It'll help pass the time and plan your evenings and weekends.Tickets are $10 at the door. Go early - the line at Gypsy is always pretty long. Add on four Playboy ...
Hotel at MIT Sold
2007-12-04 03:04:00
I'm sure there's plenty a parent of an MIT student that has stayed at the Hotel@MIT in University Park (Central Square area). Well it's being sold and is going to be reintroduced as a Le Meridien hotel. Has anyone stayed at the Taj hotel (the old Ritz on Arlington) since it was purchased? Is it better than it was when it was the Ritz? The Hotel@MIT is being purchased for $60 million and then the new owners are going to spend another $7.3 million renovating it. I stayed at a Le Meridien once when I was in Minneapolis. I wasn't that impressed. I would at some point like to stay at the new Intercontinental on the waterfront just to check it out - it looks awesome. I'll hafta pass on Le Meridien when it's done in 2009. The $200 bucks a night they charge would be better spent on Guitar Hero III and/or Rock Band. Sports Club LA - 1 Week Membership
2007-12-04 02:58:00
It's ironic that right after I get the email from Equinox, I get a postcard from the Sports Club LA. I guess there's less than one month before everyone starts making those New Years Resolutions and the gym gets really packed. This only lasts for a both two months, though. Then all those resolved folks start dropping like flies and go back to couch surfing. Anyway, I'm not sure how much of a great promotion this is, because I think you can just about always request a 1 week free membership if you're a prospective new member, but here's the details on the flyer.Take care of yourself this busy season with a complimentary one-week membership. Plus, receive a special holiday gift when you join by December 24th. Please call 1.800.420.8404 for more details. Complimentary one-week membership must be activated on or before 12/24/07. $0 Initiation Fee at Equinox When 2 People Join
2007-12-03 09:49:00
One Equinox promo just ended (it was a Thanksgiving one that I didn't post because it only lasted three days) and now another begins. No offense to Equinox but it smacks of desperation. After I took my original tour of Equinox (here), the sales person made it a point to say something about how they never do promotions on the initiation fee and that it would only go up as the gym's grand opening promo ended. Well, its been about two and a half months since my tour and there's been at least 3-4 promotions on the initiation fee. A sales person lying to me? Never! Here's the details on the latest promotion:1+1=$0THIS HOLIDAY SEASON JOIN WITH A FRIENDAND EACH PAY $0 INITIATION.CALL OR VISIT TO JOIN TODAY. Barack Obama Coming to Boston - 12/2
2007-11-30 10:18:00
Calling all politically-interested people. Barack Obama will be in Boston this Sunday 12/2, I guess to give some sort of speech or something. As you can tell, I don't have a political bone in my body so I have no idea.Anyhoo, the event is called Countdown to Change and it will be held at the Park Plaza Castle (Address Below) 130 Columbus Avenue Boston, MassachusettsI did watch the Republican Debates this week while I was working in my hotel room. I found it highly unhelpful to see the candidates being asked questions like "Mr. Giuliani why were you rooting for the Red Sox after the Yankees lost?" No offense guys, but what does that have to do with anything? I want that hour of my life back. Click (here) for details on Obama's rally and also to pay/donate the $23 admission fee.Know of Any Interesting Boston News or Events That You'd Like to Share?Email me at beantownblog@gmail.com ...
