Boston Fashion Week - 9.7-9.14
2007-09-07 10:03:00
Today marks the start of Boston Fashion Week. For those of you that are fashionable and like to stay on top of trends, this is the week for you. Click (here) for the official website and schedule of events for the week. Fashion Week kicks off with the re-opening of the new Natick Mall called "Natick Collection." I will admit that they've got some great stores now. I can already foresee them stealing business from Newbury Street. They do afterall have PARKING! At the very least, people will start exhibiting a migratory pattern. Newbury Street for the Spring/Summer shopping and Natick Collection for the winter/"freezing my butt off" shopping. If you're free this weekend, go check out the new mall and let me know what you think. A few notable stores: Nordstrom's, Zara, LuluLemon. I should probably visit myself at some point and get some fashion tips. I still get mistaken as a college student when I'm walking to and from work. Perhaps it's time to step it up.PS. Be sure t ...
The Decemberists Tickets - 9/8/07
2007-09-07 09:51:00
When I read that the Decemberists were coming back so soon, I immediately got on IM and starting messaging people. This time around, they are doing a two concert series called "The Long and Short of it." I think it's rather clever. One day (11/3) is the "Long of It" concert where they will play their epic eight-minute plus songs and then the next day (11/4) is the "Short of It" concert where they will be playing their shorter more pop-type songs. The concerts are going to be held at the Orpheum Theater on 11/3-11/4 (Saturday and Sunday) and tickets go on sale tomorrow 9/8 @ 10am EST. Click (here) for a link to the "Long of It" concert on 11/3 or click (here) for a link to the "Short of It" concert on 11/4.I'm checking my schedule to see if I can make both concerts - but I'll most likely only make it to the Sunday show. I think my Wicked tickets are on that Saturday. If you haven't heard the Decemberists, check them out. They're awesome. When I got their cd Picaresque, I li ...
A Night At The Rock Opera Tickets
2007-09-07 09:26:00
Thanks to Adam for letting me know about this upcoming event - A Night at the Rock Opera. A Somerville based group called the Ultrasonic Rock Orchestra (URO) will be putting on a series of concerts at the Wilbur Theater starting in Late October. Tickets went on sale at 10am this morning. See below for a mini-excerpt describing the show.A Night at the Rock Opera will feature spectacular sound and lighting as the 23-member production performs music from the Beatles, The Who, David Bowie, Queen and Jesus Christ Superstar, along with Will We Rock You?, the URO’s all-original mini-opera. We believe this is a great story - Boston producers, Boston band and singers, Boston production breathing new life into these great classic rock songs and at classic Boston venue. And you know me, I'm all about concerts and I'm all about supporting anything Boston related. I digress, but did anyone else make it out to Lupo's (in Providence) last night to see the Arctic Monkeys? It was an awesome ...

He was spotted at Papa Razzi on Dartmouth Street having lunch earlier this week.Rex Lee from "Entourage" who plays Lloyd, Ari's assistant, was at Abe & Louie's this week for an RCN promotion to find “Entourage” fans at local colleges for the Entourage Red Carpet Walk-Off at the Hard Rock Cafe.Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen swung by Louis Boston last night to introduce their new high-end fashion line, The Row. Films at the Gate - Chinatown
2007-09-06 09:33:00
I went to Chinatown for dinner last night (Wing's Kitchen if anyone's curious) and as I was walking there, I noticed that a projector had been set up in the parking lot next to Ginza and folks were sitting in some chairs that had been set up and were watching a movie.Well turns out, the event is called Films at the Gate and last night was the first of a series of movie screenings that will continue through Sunday night. Each evening features 7pm shorts and 8pm feature films. Click (here) for the official website and details on which movies will be playing. My movie pick? Tonight's feature "Mystery Movie II" starring Stephen Chow. You probably know him from Shaolin Soccer or Kung Fu Hustle. And if you want to see a classic Stephen Chow movie, see if you can dig up a copy of "All for the Winner" (1989). It's a parody of Chow-Yun Fat's God of Gamblers and it's hilarious.Know of Any Interesting Boston News or Events That You'd Like to Share?Email me at beantownblog@gmail.com ...
Forbes & The Wall Street Journal
2007-09-06 09:18:00
I think I've gone through the list before of what I try to read on a daily/weekly basis to stay informed on what's going on in the world and also Boston specifically. There's the Boston Globe, the Wall Street Journal, The Metro, Boston NOW, The Phoenix, The Weekly Dig, Stuff@Night, Improper Bostonian, and even Barstool Sports (The one with the scantily clad women on the cover). Other than the Globe and WSJ, the rest of the publications are free.In terms of magazines, I just started getting subscriptions to Boston Magazine, Forbes, and US News & World Report. Forbes because we're all interested in finance (or at least we should be) and US News & World Report because sometimes you need a more national perspective on things to see what Boston-related issues are making national headlines. That's also what cnn.com is for - seeing how our little world impacts those across the country.Anyways, I am happy to announce newly established advertising partnerships with the Wall Street ...

Brazilian Independence Day Festival
2007-09-05 10:16:00
Time for a little culture? The Brazilian Independence Day Festival starts tonight and runs through the weekend. Why should we celebrate? Because we love Brazil. Ask any fund/etf manager who's been doing the heavy lifting in Latin America - answer: Brazil. Who gave us Carnival? Brazil. Who brought us those glorious restaurants where the waiters walk around with skewers of roasted meat? Brazil. Soccer? Brazil (ok, ok and David Beckham). Over half of our beloved Victoria Secret Models (I ...

The Liberty Hotel Grand Opening
2007-09-04 13:53:00
The Liberty Hotel (near the Charles MGH T Stop) officially opens tomorrow, Wednesday 9/4. For those that have been in Boston for a while, you're aware that this particular hotel has an interesting past. It was formerly the Charles Street Jail. Today's Globe has an article about all the amenities that this new hotel will have and goes in to great detail as to what measures were taken to preserve some of the nostalgia of the former jail such as a restaurant named "Clink" and a bar named "Alibi." Click (here) to read the article. If you've got some free time tomorrow, go check out the latest hotel to open up in Boston. Let me know if it looks like it's worth the $319 -$525 they will be charging for rooms. I just walked through the new Intercontinental this past weekend and it looked amazing. More on that hotel to come. Know of Any Interesting Boston News or Events That You'd Like to Share?Email me at beantownblog@gmail.com ...
Back to School - The South End
2007-09-04 13:28:00
For today's Back to School edition, I'd like to talk about the South End. After having moved out of that neighborhood last year, I hadn't been back in a while - until this past Sunday. I had forgotten how much character and how quaint the South End is. Makes me almost miss living there. The South End is basically the area south of Back Bay. Although they are the area around Shawmut Street and Washington Street have undergone extensive changes over the last few years, I never really roam south of Tremont Street. In fact, I spend most of my time there (all my favorite restaurants are conveniently located on Tremont).View Larger MapAs you can tell, I really enjoyed all the restaurants on Tremont Street and didn't really venture away from that area very often. Why did I move? I had a car that I had to park in a garage 10 minutes away (Near Back Bay T Stop) and whenever I did park on the street, I had to worry about tickets from street cleaning and parking meters. Also, it was pr ...
Boston Tattoo Convention
2007-09-03 13:45:00
It's sad that the work week hasn't even started yet and I'm already thinking about the weekend. Coming up on Friday 9/7 is the 6th Annual Boston Tattoo Convention. It runs all weekend and promises to be an interesting experience.Tattoo artists from all around the country will be attending this event at the Boston Center for the Arts in the South End. Click (here) for additional info on the official website. If I was in great physical shape, I'd totally get a tattoo - maybe on my back somewhere. Too bad I'm not in great shape, gotta hit the gym for a while first and lose some weight.Boston Center for the Arts539 Tremont StreetBoston, MA 02116Know of Any Interesting Boston News or Events That You'd Like to Share?Email me at beantownblog@gmail.com ...
IFC Free Film Fest
2007-09-02 13:23:00
I hope everyone is having a great Labor Day weekend. The weather has been amazing so far and according to the forecast it should hold up for the next couple days. I spent yesterday walking down Newbury Street, it's been a while since I've walked all the way down from Arlington to Mass Ave. Also took a quick walk through the Pru and Copley Mall. And nope, still can't afford anything in Copley. Enjoy the weekend because after tomorrow, it's back to work/school on Tuesday. But fear not, I've got the perfect after work event for you this week to ease you back into the Fall. The IFC Free Film fest starts Tuesday and continues through Thursday. Click (here) for the official website. Movies will be shown in Copley Square on the lawn at Trinity Church. Join us for uncut screenings of these three films - the Coen Brothers cult hit, "Raising Arizona"; the family-friendly fairy tale classic "The Princess Bride"; as well as the unconventionally humorous "Napoleon Dynamite". Celebrities in Boston - Boston Public Meat
2007-08-31 14:36:00
Two weekends ago, I had the distinct pleasure of meeting owner LJ Tugelbayev and his lovely wife Akmaral. My friend Tim brought me to an invitation-only event at Boston Public Meat (aka Boston Public) for drinks and hors d'ourves. For those of you that don't know, Boston Public Meat is the new restaurant located adjacent to Louis Boston on Newbury Street. The food was amazing, and the location was perfect. It was a breezy Sunday afternoon and I couldn't imagine anything better than sipping drinks on a patio on Newbury Street. From the title of my post you may be wondering, "What does Boston Public have to do with Celebrities?" The answer is "Everything." Boston Public is fairly new, yet from speaking with LJ, an extensive list of celebrities have already been there: Justin Timberlake, Bruce Willis, Mandy Moore, Vera Wang, The Police - just to name a few.More recently, yesterday's Globe had a brief snippet and snapshot about Tom Brady and Gisele's lunch excursion at Boston P ...
