Celebrities In Boston - The Sports Club LA
2007-09-14 12:34:00
I blogged a little while ago about how Boston Public was a great place to see Hollywood celebrities while they are in town. Here comes another: The Sports Club LA. The Sports Club is located on Avery Street adjacent to the Ritz Carlton. It's also considered one of the nicest gyms in Boston. You'd figure that the health conscious stars out there would be swinging by the Sports Club for a workout while staying at the Ritz during their Boston stay.I saw The Rock at the Sports Club way back when in November when he was in town filming his new movie "The Game Plan." The Boston Globe reported that Justin Timberlake was working out with a friend at the Sports Club while he was in town.More recently, Equinox opened up near the Back Bay T Stop. They had a huge banner up proclaiming that they were now the best gym in Boston - so I had to check it out. I will admit that it was pretty nicely decorated. New places usually are. Their bathroom fixtures were quite nice. I think the fing ...

Beckett Bowl Charity Event - Tonight
2007-09-13 15:18:00
Sorry for the short notice, it totally slipped my mind earlier this week. Josh Beckett's Beckett Bowl charity event goes on tonight. Proceeds will go to benefit the Children's Hospital Boston. Yes, the Red Sox pitcher is a local celebrity. But it's the guest performer that will be drawing the crowds.Adrian Grenier (You and I know him as Vinny Chase from Entourage) will be performing with his band the Honey Brothers at the afterparty. Man, I love that show. And I'm sure you do too. Click (here) for the official website and details. Swing by and catch a Glimpse of AquaMan. I'm In StuffatNight This Week!
2007-09-13 14:13:00
Remember the Hot 100 issue of Stuff@Night from last month? Click (here) for a link to my disgruntled blog post after reading that issue. The magazine was supposed to feature the 100 Hottest things in Boston. Hottest restaurant, Hottest clothing store, etc. When it came time for the Hottest Blog, they chose a NYC blog.Well in addition to just writing a blog entry, I also wrote an email to Stuff@Night and it was published this week. It's the issue with the Welcome Back doormat on the cover. Goto the stands and grab a copy!!!!Know of Any Interesting Boston News or Events That You'd Like to Share?Email me at beantownblog@gmail.com ...

Walking for a Cause - 9/16
2007-09-13 13:11:00
I suppose its best to get all the walking in now while the weather is still decent. No one's going to do a charity walk in November when it's freezing out. Personally, I find it hard to roll about of bed in the morning for the 5 months spanning November to March.Coming up this Sunday 9/16 there are two walks for you to choose from. Or if you're really ambitious, you could try to do both. The 15th Annual Lupus Walk on the Charles starts at 9am with registration and then the walk commences at 10am. The walk will start at Artesani Park in Brighton. Click (here) for directions. I think that this is a 3 mile walk, but I can't be certain. The website doesn't really have much information on it.The Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk is also going on this Sunday. The Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk gives participants the opportunity to follow the course of the 26.2-mile Boston Marathon in honor or memory of friends, family, co-workers, and patients facing all forms of cancer. It is th ...

Children's Book Festival - 9/15
2007-09-12 19:29:00
While some of us are drinking beers in an effort to get textbooks for the kids. Other's may want to take that time and take their kids to the 5th Annual Children's Book Festival going on in Copley Square this Saturday 9/15 from 11am - 5pm.Enjoy a fun-filled day of readings by children's author's and illustrators, book signings, appearances by costumed characters, music, giveaways, and more. Admission is FREE and more than 20 local and national authors and performers will be on hand for the event.Click (here) for the official website and schedule of events for the day. I guess I'm getting old because I can't recognize any of the authors. But, not so old that I'm buying books for kids of my own. What happened to the days of Louis Sachar and the Sideways Stories from Wayside School? Man, those were classics.Know of Any Interesting Boston News or Events That You'd Like to Share?Email me at beantownblog@gmail.com ...

Riverfront Brewfest - 9/15
2007-09-12 19:18:00
Coming up this Saturday is the 2nd Annual Haverhill Brewery Riverfront Brewfest. There's another beer festival next week as well, but who says you can't go to two beer festivals, two weeks in a row? One flyer says that there will be beer from 15 breweries, a different one says there will be beers from 20 local breweries. Conclusion? There will be more than enough beer to sample. There are 2 sessions on Saturday. Noon to 4pm and 5pm to 9pm. Proceeds benefit the Haverhill Public Schools Textbook Project. You drink, so the kids can have textbooks. Sounds like a great idea to me. Just remember to find yourselves a designated driver. Choose that friend of yours on Atkins, he/she can't drink anyway. Beer = carbs.Click (here) for the official website. Tickets are $18 in advance and $20 at the door. Moment of Silence - 9/11/07
2007-09-11 07:58:00
Good morning everyone. Just wanted to ask that we all take a moment of silence today in honor of the loved ones who died six years ago on this day. Many of us in Boston had family/friends that were on those planes that left from Logan. It's shocking that six years have already gone by, don't let their memories fade.Know of Any Interesting Boston News or Events That You'd Like to Share?Email me at beantownblog@gmail.com ...

Celebrities in Boston - 9/10/07
2007-09-10 10:52:00
It's been a busy week for celebrities in Boston. Not only were 3 movies being filmed in the Boston area, but the AARP convention was also in town. Kirk & Michael Douglas spoke at the convention. Wife Catherine Zeta Jones was reported to be in town as well. In addition, LL Cool J hosted a Friday morning workout for convention-goers. And then on Saturday, Whoopi Goldberg and Maya Angelou were on stage together for an interview.Gisele was spotted at the Patriots game on Sunday supporting her man. Congrats to the Patriots for crushing the Jets. And also congrats to Ellis Hobbs for your 108 yard kickoff return. If you missed it, Hobbs set a new NFL record for the longest kickoff return beating the previous record of 106 yards, by Green Bay's Al Carmichael in 1966, Kansas City's Nolan Smith in 1967 and Roy Green of the St. Louis Cardinals in 1979.Dane Cook and Kate Hudson made their way to Comedy Connection on Saturday night to see Russell Peters perform. Boston Taxi Drivers
2007-09-10 10:24:00

Ollie Road Race on Saturday
2007-09-07 12:25:00
The Ollie Road Race is a 5 mile run / 2 mile walk taking place tomorrow, Saturday 9/8 at 10am. This race has been going on in South Boston for the past 66 years! Granted, I don't really go to South Boston very often, but this is the first I've heard of the Ollie Road Race in the 7 years that I've been in Boston. Following the Settlement House tradition, the Ollie Road Race Classic was initiated in 1941 and is one of the longstanding road races in New England. Beginning as an athletic event for young men, the Ollie Road Race Classic is now more than just a race – it is a community event that provides all family members with the opportunity to celebrate the positive aspects of the neighborhood. To make things a little more interesting this year, Procter & Gamble is sponsoring Dunkin' Donuts runners to run in the race while pushing grocery shopping carts and passing out samples of the new packaged coffee. So if you're free tomorrow and want to enjoy the last few bits of warm w ...
