I'll post pictures tomorrow after I return. The 7th Annual Beantown Jazz Festival starts tomorrow at 9pm at The Beehive (in the South End). The event runs from 9/27 to 9/29 and is jam packed with performances by great musicians. Click (here) for the official website/schedule of events. The Best Lobster Deal in Boston
2007-09-25 10:02:00
It was around seven years ago, when I first arrived in Boston as a broke college student that I stumbled upon what I thought was the best deal on lobster in Boston. It was at Tia's on the waterfront and it was ten bucks for a boiled lobster, fries and cole slaw. Fast forward to now, and i think it's now double that for the same lobster, fries and cole slaw.Fear not, I've now found an even better deal and it can be found at Pearl Villa in Chinatown. And here it is:I know what you're thinking. For the love of God, how does anyone outside of Chinatown find out about this deal? Well, they've since added another banner. So the first thing you're wondering is, "2 lobsters for $9.95 are you serious?" Rest assured, I checked it out, it's the real deal. And no, these are not dead lobsters from 2 weeks ago. These are live lobsters, you can see them in the tank in the front of the restaurant. So how do they do it? They take a loss on the lobsters in order to drive traffic. Thei ...

Movie Filming in Boston - 9/24/07
2007-09-24 09:20:00
Monday morning, the only time of the week that I wish that I was a coffee drinker. As I was walking to work today I noticed numerous signs up indicating that it's going to be another busy day of Hollywood movie filming.I'm not sure which movie they're working on (The Women, Bachelor No. 2, Pink Panther 2) but they were setting up filming equipment in the Public Garden and then setting up catering equipment near the intersection of Newbury St. and Arlington St.So if you're a star-gazer and have the day off today (lucky you) head over and see if you can see some celebrities. If you happen to snap a picture, send it to me and I'll post it for all to see.Your guess is as good as mine as to what exactly "Extreme Motion Picture Catering" entails and what could possibly make catering "Extreme."Know of Any Interesting Boston News or Events That You'd Like to Share?Email me at beantownblog@gmail.com ...

Join Equinox Boston for $16
2007-09-20 21:52:00
I already shared with everyone my thoughts on Equinox, the new gym in Back Bay (here). But those of you who would like to join, I just received an email saying that they have a special going on for 1 week where the initiation fee is $16. If I remember correctly, when I went in a few weeks ago, the initiation fee was $250ish.I remain a big proponent of the Sports Club LA, but being able to get the initiation fee down to $16 is a pretty awesome deal. God knows I paid a retarded amount to join the SCLA. For where I live, the SCLA just makes more sense - it's within walking distance for me. But if I lived in Back Bay or the South End, I'd definitely check out Equinox. On another note, if anyone wants to join the SCLA, I may be able to get you a discount on the initiation fee by getting you a member referral. If anyone is interested, let me know and I will go find out. Here are the details for Equinox:$16 initiation offer valid for Select and Regional Access Memberships only sold ...

Global Mala Project Boston - 9/22
2007-09-20 20:56:00
Per one of my earlier posts, I admitted to being just a free weights and cardio kind of guy. But, I did recently add yoga to the mix in hopes of increasing my flexibility. I'm hoping that one day in the distant future, I'll be able to touch my toes again. I've been hitting the yoga classes off and on as my work travel schedule permits and it has been a decent workout. The "gentle" yoga classes are mainly for flexibility, but the power yoga does kick me in the ass.Coming up this Saturday, Sept 22nd is the biggest yoga event Boston has seen this year - The Global Mala Project:Join 19 of the most senior yoga teachers at the Global Mala Project Sun Salutation Event at the Cambridge Masonic Hall and then join us for the Global Mala Project Evening event for a kirtan concert with Krishna Das and a dharma talk by best selling author Jon Kabat Zin.Click (here) to register for the yoga event and then click (here) to goto Ticketmaster to buy tickets for the evening concert.Know of Any Int ...

Phantom Gourmet Food Festival - 9/23
2007-09-19 10:38:00
The Annual Phantom Gourmet Food Festival goes on this weekend, September 23rd. The party takes place on Landsdowne and Ipswich street near Fenway from 11am - 4pm. I went to the food festival a few years back, and had a pretty good time. From the looks of it, this year is going to be bigger and better - with food stands outside and parties held inside the Landsdowne clubs. Most importantly, you MUST buy tickets in advance. They will not be selling tickets during the day of the event. Click (here) for information on where you can get the tickets (online or at certain restaurants). The list of participating restaurants is so long, that I'm not even going to attempt to type it out. Click (here) for a list of the restaurants. And click (here) for a list of the parties that are going to be held at each of the different Landsdowne venues. Guinness...It's What's For Dinner
2007-09-18 20:12:00
I had some friends from out of town visit a couple weekends ago and while at the bars, they insisted on having Black & Tans - they had heard it was a Boston drink. The 2 bars we went to (who shall remain nameless because I don't want to shame them) did not have Black & Tans but instead served us Black & Blues (using Blue Moon instead of Bass). I hadn't had Guinness and while and forgot how delicious it is.Guinness is hosting an invitation-only event in October in 3 cities: Boston, New York, and Philadelphia. If it's invitation-only how do you get in? Well, I'm going to give you the password to RSVP. The password is "Harp" and you can click (here) to RSVP. The event is being held on 3 different days (10/11 - 10/13) RSVP and pick which one you'd like to go to, it will be held at the Boston Center for the Arts in the South End. Live Jazz & Art - 9/19
2007-09-18 18:46:00
This is an event that I'm really excited about. Live Jazz & art - it's going to be an evening of sophistication. The artwork is by local artist Lisa Finch. It's terrific stuff.Celebrate Hump Day by swinging by Vinalia from 8pm to 11pm for some live music and some great artwork. I was crushed when a client decided last minute (yesterday) that they wanted to have an out of town meeting tomorrow. Because if I was in Boston tomorrow night (ie: All you readers out there) you'd find me at Vinalia.Know of Any Interesting Boston News or Events That You'd Like to Share?Email me at beantownblog@gmail.com ...

Michael A. Tye Golf Tournament - 9/19
2007-09-17 17:47:00
It's getting cold fast. I feel like it was warm all last week and then then when the weekend hit, it suddenly got surprisingly cold. I was driving around at one point and the temperature meter in my car said it was 48 degrees outside.Soon, it's going to be snowing out. I'm cringing as I think about the upcoming winter. According to the Farmer's Almanac, it's going to be a really cold one. Takeaway message? Spend time outside while you can.The 5th Annual Michael A. Tye Golf Tournament takes place this Wednesday, September 19th, 2007 at the Pinehills Golf Club in Plymouth, MA. 1000 Words - Natick Collection
2007-09-15 17:29:00
I just got back from the new Natick Collection (what used to be known as the Natick Mall) and I have to say that I'm really impressed with what they've done with the place. In addition to all the expansion, Natick has done a great job of attracting A-List stores/restaurants. LV, Burberry, LuluLemon, Zara, etc. Copley is going to get a run for it's money. And since a picture is worth 1000 words, here's 9000 words worth.PS. Traffic in and around Natick is now nightmarish. Parking is also insane despite the new parking garages they built for the mall. Hopefully it will die down a little once the "new mall" novelty has worn off. Know of Any Interesting Boston News or Events That You'd Like to Share?Email me at beantownblog@gmail.com ...
