Free 60 Day Pass at BJ's Club
2007-10-01 11:17:00
I'm more of a Costco guy myself, I go there every couple of weeks to pick up a case of water, Vitamin Water, and some fruit. Also, whenever I get a flat tire, which is way too often (Thank you crappy Boston roads), I head over to Costco to get a replacement. There was also that PlayStation 3 impulse buy from last year. That one hurt. I went in to get a flat tire replaced, and was told it'd take 45 minutes so I could go into the main warehouse and walk around. Instead of spending 150 bucks on a tire, I spent ~$900 on a tire and a PS3. I couldn't resist. Everyone else was sold out.But I digress, in yesterday's Globe, there was a flyer for a free 60 day pass for BJ's Wholesale Club. That's a far cry from their usual one-day passes that I see on occasion. For those of you that want to test the waters. I scanned the flyer for you. See below. I think if you click on the image it should enlarge.Know of Any Interesting Boston News or Events That You'd Like to Share?Email me a ...

Stubhub.com Saves the Day
2007-09-28 11:13:00
There is nothing more aggravating to me than logging onto my computer at 9:55am the day that tickets for an event go on sale, pressing F5 like a madman until 10am hits and tickets go on sale and then not being able to get tickets.I can't count the number of times this has happened to me in the last six months: The Killers, The Smashing Pumpkings, Wicked, the list goes on. Remember that Celtics presale I blogged about (here). It was supposed to be "early access" and I still couldn't manage to get any tickets. Apparently there are people that have "earlier than early access." On a related not, I don't even try anymore for Red Sox or Patriots tickets. So where do I turn when there's an event that I medically NEED to go to? Probably the same as you, Stubhub.com. I've had pretty good experience with them so, I'm proud to welcome them as the newest affiliate advertiser on the Beantown Bloggery.Like I always do, I searched for promo codes for you guys and found "STUBBY601" for $ ...
New England Film & Video Festival - 10/4
2007-09-28 10:51:00
I'm blogging about this one early because I was told tickets are selling like hotcakes and I want to make sure that those of you who want to go have the opportunity to do so. This year marks the 32nd year that the New England Film & Video Festival has been going on. Anything that's been going on longer than I've been alive is pretty impressive. The festival will run from 10/4-10/8 at the Coolidge Corner Theater in Brookline. There's going to be so much going on: movie screenings, workshops, musical showcases. Click (here) for the official website and details on all the different events that are going on. More importantly, watch the trailers there to see which films you want to see and then go (here) to buy tickets.Opening Night is October 4th and the entire festival runs through the weekend, including Monday, Columbus Day , as the last day of festivities. Special guests, including filmmakers and members of the Boston Red Sox are expected to attend. This year the festival a ...

Absinthe Coming to Boston
2007-09-28 10:31:00
I've read the history and heard the rumors about friends of friends going to Eastern Europe and sneaking back a bottle through customs, but I've never personally seen Absinthe. Well, apparently, the Green Fairy is on its way back to Boston.Viridian Spirits started importing absinthe made with grand wormwood into the US in May of this year. They're selling it under the name "Lucid." Click (here) to check out the official website. As of right now, Lucid is only available in New York and a few cities in New Jersey, but it's supposed to be coming to Boston on November 2nd. For those of you that can't wait a month, there's a list of retailers in NYC (here) where you can pick some up now.Patience has never been one of my virtues, and it just so happens that I will be in NYC this weekend. So, hopefully I can find some free time to hit up one of the liquor stores and pick up a bottle. Next stop, Crate and Barrel for some slotted spoons and Star Market for some sugar cubes. Steve-O From Jackass at The Liquor Store
2007-09-27 10:29:00
I'm cringing as I add the 'celebrity' label to this post. But he is famous, so here goes. Steve-O from MTV's Jackass is going to be in Boston tomorrow, Friday 9/28. According to The Liquor Store's website (here) the party starts at 10pm.As you may have guessed, Steve-O will be there to 'tame' the mechanical bull. I think the scariest part of that evening is the fact that Friday night is Bikini-Bull Riding night, and the thought of seeing Steve-O in person, in a bikini, makes me cringe even more. But knowing him, maybe he'll just show up naked. I'm pretty sure I know which option wins out.Kill some time tonight at the MFA (Museum of Fine Arts for you freshman that are new to Boston). Tom Brady's Son
2007-09-26 10:51:00
OK! Magazine, one of those celebrity gossip type magazines (I'm assuming, I've never actually read one) will be releasing the first photos of John Edward Thomas Moynahan tomorrow in its latest issue. Click (here) for a link to OK! or see below for a peek at the cover and photo of Tom Brady's new son.According to the Boston Globe, Bridget Moynahan (who I keep confusing with the woman who plays Jean Grey in the X-men movies) was paid "in excess of $100K for the photo shoot, and donated all of the dough to children's charities." That's pretty awesome in my opinion. Props to Bridget for thinking of others. Know of Any Interesting Boston News or Events That You'd Like to Share?Email me at beantownblog@gmail.com ...
Russian-American Relations Exhibit
2007-09-26 10:22:00
Here's your chance to exercise some of those brain cells. Starting tomorrow and running for about a month, the Massachusetts Historical Society is hosting an exhibit on the history of diplomatic relations between Russia and America. How much do I know about this particular topic? Next to nothing, I can throw out buzzwords like: Sputnik, Cold War, and Space Race. But other than that, I'm drawing a blank. Anyone else feel like they've gotten dumber every day since they've left college? Maybe it's just me. This exhibition concentrates on eyewitness accounts in letters and diaries of men and women from Massachusetts present at momentous events in modern Russian history, and their role in Russian-American diplomatic relations. The exhibit will run everyday from September 27, 2007-October 31, 2007 from 1pm-4pm. Octoberfest at the Harpoon Brewery
2007-09-26 10:14:00
For those of us that don't have the funds or the vacation time to fly to Germany, where better to get a little taste of Octoberfest than a brewery? Coming up this weekend on Friday and Saturday, the Harpoon Brewery is celebrating the coming of Fall with some of my favorite things in life: beer and meat.Celebrate the fall season Harpoon-style with fresh Harpoon and UFO beers, bratwurst from Kayem, and other great food. Plus live local rock bands and non-stop German Oompah bands. Admission is $15 per person and there is a free shuttle from South Station (signs on Summer St). Parking is available across the street from the brewery, but come on guys. Don't drink and drive. Either sucker someone into being a designated driver (Designated driver at a brewery? I think that was Dante's 7th circle of Hell) or take the shuttle . The Silver Line also goes out to the brewery, so that's another option.Click (here) for the link to the official website or see the schedule below:Friday, Se ...
