Cold Stone Creamery Ice Cream for $2
2007-10-06 11:26:00
I found this advertisement in the Globe. Every weekend in October (Saturday and Sunday before 5pm), Cold Stone Creamery is offering $2 Signature Creations at participating locations. Of most importance to me would be the ones in the Theatre District and the Prudential Center.I've been craving their cheesecake ice cream with a brownie mixed if the last couple of months. But I can't bring myself to go because I'm trying to lose weight. Traveling for work has been taking a toll on my body. Not only can I not work out, but I usually end up eating massive amounts of food at client dinners. Aghgh.Anyway, for those of you that don't have a weight problem. Go grab some ice cream today or tomorrow from Cold Stone. No coupon necessary according to the ad. I scanned it, see below.Know of Any Interesting Boston News or Events That You'd Like to Share?Email me at beantownblog@gmail.com ...

Where Daisuke Matsuzaka Gets Sushi
2007-10-05 09:31:00
I was hanging out on Wednesday night with a few friends that are sushi chefs in the Boston area and heard on good authority that my former favorite sushi restaurant is in fact one of Daisuke Matsuzaka's favorites. If you don't know who Dice-K is, crawl out of your fallout shelter and watch a Red Sox game or two.Why is it my former favorite? Well for one, it's a bit far away - my office used to be right out there in Natick, so I'd swing by after work to grab a bite to eat. Now my office is downtown. Weeks go by without me needing to hop in my car. Reason number two is that when eating alone, it's nice to be able to sit at the bar and chat with the sushi chefs. All of the chefs that I liked ended up moving to other restaurants. As a result, I only make it out to Oga's once every few months. How often does Daisuke eat there? I was told once a week. How often does his wife eat there? Once or twice a week. Daisuke's a pretty busy guy, so often times it's just his wife and ...

Zombie Fest: From Dusk Till Dawn - 10/6
2007-10-04 13:06:00
This one is going to be highly entertaining. The Somerville Theater in Davis Square is hosting Zombie Fest: From Dusk Til Dawn this upcoming Saturday night. Be forewarned, this is not for the faint of heart. From 7pm until 7am (that's right 12 straight hours) they will be showing a veritable marathon of zombie movies. Tickets are $30 bucks at the door or $24 in advance. They've got some good movies lined up. Shaun of the Dead, which was hilarious. 28 Weeks Later, which I haven't seen but I'm sure it's good. And then various other zombie movies which may or may not be good. But here's the best part: beer and wine is available. Soooo.......kick back, relax, have a drink, and watch a zombie movie (or 6 zombie movies for that matter). Bring your friends cause you're going to need someone to poke you when you start nodding off around 4am.Brains! We Want Brains! What a coincidence, that's MIT's motto too.Know of Any Interesting Boston News or Events That You'd Like to S ...

2007-10-04 09:38:00
The weekend is only one day a way. Technically two, I guess, since Thursday just got started. But at least we're getting close. Coming up this Saturday, 10/6 at Harper's Ferry is a benefit concert for Ben's Dream a nonprofit whose mission is to raise awareness and fund research toward a cure for Sanfilippo Syndrome.Singer/Songwriters Ari Hest, Mieka Pauley and Tim Blane join together for an evening of music. Coming off the recent release of his latest album ‘THE BREAK IN’ on Red Ink/Columbia records in May, Ari has spent a good deal of 2007 touring. He just returned from a tour in the UK and Ireland and earlier this year toured with Brandi Carlile and The Damnwells. He became aware of Ben and the Foundation through his childhood friend and Ben’s teacher Michael Pollak. Ari contacted his friend Mieka Pauley who will be releasing her new album Elijah Drop Your Gun in November. The show is rounded out by Tim Blane who also just released a new album Clockwork. Recent Comments
2007-10-03 11:45:00
I've always done my best to respond to people's comments by either posting another comment in that same post or using the chatterbox on the sidebar. One of my fears, though, is that if the commenter didn't bookmark the page and come back often, they'd never know if they got a response or not.So, I've added a widget on the right hand side to display the most recent 5 comments and removed the chatterbox to see if this helps. This way, everyone can have a little bit more visibility into the mini-conversations that are going on right now.Let me know if you really liked the chatterbox and I'll try to find a way to squeeze it back onto the page.PS. MissPiggy, if you're reading, someone was asking if you could provide the upcoming shoot location for the Pink Panther 2.Cheers,Beantown BloggeryKnow of Any Interesting Boston News or Events That You'd Like to Share?Email me at beantownblog@gmail.com ...

Dewar's Debate: Meat vs Veggie - 10/4
2007-10-03 10:06:00
Many thanks to Sarah for letting me know about tomorrow's debate. I'm not much into politics, but this is a debate that's worth hearing. Thursday, 10/4 Dewar's and Vice Magazine are hosting the next in their series of Dewar's Debates. The topic? Meat vs Veggie. Our debaters are tackling the Meat vs. Veggie debate, with a healthy dose of humour & argument fueled by complimentary Dewar's.Personally, I say, why argue? I love them both. Steak? Yum. French fries? Delicious. French fries are a vegetable right? You guys can pick a side, I'll be Switzerland. Nothing makes me happier than food and scotch and thus, I think we should all head over to Zuzu's in Cambridge, choose sides, and battle it out over a glass of Scotch. As Ron Burgundy says: "I love scotch. Scotchy, scotch, scotch. Here it goes down, down into my belly..."See below for the event flyer and then click (here) to RSVP. FYI, According to the flyer you need to RSVP if you plan on attending.Know of Any In ...

Grocery Store Coming to Harvard Square
2007-10-02 10:18:00
Whenever my issue of Boston Magazine comes, I read it right away and then earmark pages that I want to blog about later. It's been a busy couple of weeks, so I just recently pulled out my issue from underneath a stack of unread mail and flipped through it. I will admit that I haven't been to Harvard Square in a long long time. The square does have a few great places though. The Greenhouse Cafe (huge sandwiches), Border Cafe (decent mexican food), and Burdick (best hot chocolate ever). But I just haven't been there in a while. The most interesting part about the Boston Magazine article is that it points out that Harvard owns 30 of the storefronts in Harvard Square and plays landlord. But with the grocery store that's coming, they've actually handpicked their neighbor. Harvard rented the space left vacant when Sage's Market closed and let it sit there vacant since 2000 until they were able to find someone willing to open another grocery store in the area. Eating 7 years of r ...

More Movie Filming in Boston To Come
2007-10-02 09:59:00
Those new tax breaks being given to movie companies for filming here must be pretty awesome, rumor has it that two more movies will start shooting in Boston soon just as "The Women" is wrapping up. So who might you expect to see in town in the upcoming months? Cameron Diaz is supposed to be starring in "The Box" which will be filmed here as well as William H. Macy, Morgan Freeman, and Christopher Walken who will be in town filming "The Lonely Maiden." Hmm... All guys so far, I wonder who will be playing the role of the "maiden."And on the celebrity note (but not related to Boston). Yes, Britney Spears lost custody of her kids. We all saw it coming. No need to put it in every single newspaper and the front page of cnn.com. Know of Any Interesting Boston News or Events That You'd Like to Share?Email me at beantownblog@gmail.com ...

Skirt Magazine
2007-10-01 12:30:00
There's a new green magazine stand next to all the other free magazines/newspapers that you pick up on the street corner for a magazine called Skirt. The magazine dispenser started showing up about 2 weeks ago with a notice that said "Coming Soon - October 1st."Being an avid reader of all the other free publications out there, it piqued my interest. Obviously with a name like Skirt, I figured it would be more geared towards the female population, but that it would still have some valuable information. Not to be rude, but I was wrong. I picked up their first issue today as I walked to lunch and I'm a disappointed. There was not a single article that I found interesting enough to read in its entirety. According magazine, Skirt is "a magazine that fits all ages and interests...that's local without being provincial, that's passionate about women's rights...that's part fashionista, part femenist."Maybe it's because I'm a twenty-something guy that I can't relate, but the magazine ...

Sports Club LA 50% Off Initiation Fee
2007-10-01 11:27:00
I never realized the Fall was a big advertising campaign for gyms. Equinox just did it last week (here) and now the Sports Club LA just sent something out to me. I always thought January was the big push after everyone made their New Year's Resolutions.Anyway, I was mailed a couple of 50% off initiation fee vouchers to give to friends. I count all my readers as my friends, so if you're interested in joining the Sports Club LA send me an email with your name and address, and I'll spring for the 41 cent stamp and mail the voucher to you. I only have 2, but if there is a lot of interest, I will go to the SCLA office and ask for more vouchers.Don't quote me on this, but when I joined 2 years ago, the joining fee I think was about $500 for the regular membership. They've changed ownership since then, which is a good thing because the new owners did some kickass renovations last year. But that also means I have no idea what the pricing is anymore. The voucher expires 10/31/07. I ...
