Celebrities This Week - 10/17
2007-10-17 09:09:00
Looks like Bono from U2 was in town yesterday to meet with the Mortgage Banker's Association. Odd? Yes, I agree with you. Apparently, Bono was there during the MBA's convention as an advocate for aid for the poor and disease-wracked of Africa. What does this have to do with Mortgages? Probably nothing, but in order to boost attendance and keep people awake, I guess the conference organizers called in the rockstar. Click (here) to read about it. Also in town were: Mark Wahlberg & family, Andy Garcia, and Kate Hudson. Apparently Abe & Louie's is also a very popular place for the stars to dine. Andy and Kate were there having dinner on Monday at the same time but at different tables.Oh, and Ben Affleck is around too. He's been promoting his new movie "Gone Baby Gone" and also giving speeches about healthcare reform.Know of Any Interesting Boston News or Events That You'd Like to Share?Email me at beantownblog@gmail.com ...

Rodrigo y Gabriela Tonight!
2007-10-17 08:41:00
It's been a little while since I've been to a concert. There's one tonight that I'm really excited about. If you're into classical guitars and you haven't heard of Rodrigo y Gabriela, you're missing out. There's a brief article on them today in the Metro talking about their journey from Mexico to Ireland and how they "discovered" themselves.I first found out about them when my friend Alain showed me a clip of them on YouTube. So I'd like to do the same here. Bear in mind this isn't my favorite clip on Youtube, but it is the fastest loading one. They will be performing tonight at the Orpheum Theater at 7:30pm. Alex Skolnick is opening for them. If you're free tonight, it's worth looking into to see if tickets are still available.Know of Any Interesting Boston News or Events That You'd Like to Share?Email me at beantownblog@gmail.com ...

Martha's Vineyard Annual Harvest
2007-10-11 08:30:00
I've only been to Martha's Vineyard twice. The first time was for a Kentucky Derby party that a client had. She has a very nice house out there, and I had a wonderful time. Barbaro won that year. The second time, my family was in town so we all went over to do a more touristy tour of Martha's Vineyard. Coming up this weekend, a reason to head over a third time: The Martha's Vineyard Annual Harvest. From October 12th to October 14th brace yourself for a schedule of great food and great wine. The Martha's Vineyard Annual Harvest Festival will celebrate a cornucopia of food and wine, promoting local farms and seafood as well as wineries from all over the world and chefs from both on-island and off, extending Martha’s Vineyard’s vibrant fall season. The Martha’s Vineyard Museum will be the primary charitable affiliation of this non-profit festival.Click (here) for the official schedule of events. TJX Security Breach - Part II
2007-10-11 01:01:00
I'm had just been updating the original post, but now that it looks like a settlement is going to be reached, I think that warrants another post.Click (here) for my original post on the TJX security breach and my recommendation to use FreeCreditReport.com (at least for the 30 day free trial) to monitor your credit report.Originally TJX had proposed giving $30 TJX vouchers to the customers that had been affected by the hack. The judge in charge (mad props to him for standing up for the little guy) told them that it wasn't enough and now TJX has come back with a proposal for $30 vouchers along with $15 checks.Click (here) to read yesterday's article about how the judge is now leaning towards approving this new proposal. And just to reiterate, the gravity of the situation. I'm mentioning again the real world situation that happened recently:I just read another article last week about stolen credit card numbers and it said that in cases like this, the numbers are never used right away ...

1000 Words - The State Room
2007-10-08 10:18:00
I recently went to a meeting/reception held in The State Room @ 60 State Street. It was the first time I'd been there in about seven years. Way back when, the State Room was a restaurant called Bay Tower. Food was decent, but it was the view that made it an amazing place to take a date.Know of Any Interesting Boston News or Events That You'd Like to Share?Email me at beantownblog@gmail.com ...
Boston Comedy Festival - 10/7
2007-10-06 11:38:00
Forgive me if i get some of my "todays" and "tomorrows" wrong. I just landed in Hong Kong for a week-long business trip and even though I am well aware that we're twelve hours ahead, it's still disorienting to try to figure out what time it is in Boston right now.The Boston International Comedy and Movie Festival starts tomorrow 10/7 and runs for a full week until 10/13. Going to stand up in Boston is one of my favorite things to do, and I definitely don't do it often enough. Highlights were: seeing Darrell Hammond at the Comedy Connection (the guy who plays Bill Clinton on SNL) and Russel Peters at the Berklee Center (the Indian guy who does a better Asian accent than I do.)Click (here) for a schedule of events. If my memory serves me correctly, I believe Dennis Leary is going to be in town for the festival amongst other famous comedians. Check it out and let me know how the festival is. I'll have to live vicariously through you all while I'm in Asia.Know of Any Interesting ...
