2007-05-29 08:00:51
Here are your new releases on DVD for Tuesday, May 29, 2007: Hannibal Rising Starring: Gaspard Ulliel, Richard Leaf, Ingeborga Dapkunaite, Helena Lia Tachovska Director: Peter Webber Genre: Drama / Horror / Thriller Details: Mischa and Hannibal (Gaspard Ulliel), baby brother and sister, are inseparable; it is their love for each other that ties their bond. Their companionship is forever binding, until, with their family, while hiding from the Nazi war machine a twisted set of circumstance sets the pace for a most vicious attack on the future of one Hannibal Lecter for the sworn vengeance for the brutal killing of his baby sister. Years later, we find Hannibal, the teenager, setting up in Paris, and living with his aunt Lady Murasaki Shikibu (Li Gong) and studying at medical school here he finds his forte. Hannibal continues searching for his sister’s murderers, ever hopeful of satisfying his desire for retribution. Pretty slim pickings this week for new DVDs, but this weekend t ...
Mischa Barton Overdoses, Allegedly
2007-05-28 13:45:11
Allegedly, of course, Mischa Barton had a little too much of something on Sunday at a BBQ and was rushed to a hospital in LA. She overdoses at a BBQ? What does someone OD on at a BBQ? Hmm… Damn you Colonel Sanders and your wee-beady eyes! I’m on to you and the addictive chemical you put in your chicken which leave us craving for it nightly! ...
Rosie O?Donnell Likes Her Own Voice
2007-05-28 13:10:51
After quitting The View last week over her fight with Elisabeth Hasselback Rosie O’Donnell has gone on to post a video on her site detailing her side of the outcome. She’s mainly entertaining questions from readers, some good, some bad. It’s mostly the same rhetoric we’ve heard from O’Donnell before. Despite Rosie’s claims in the video that she “never tried harder to be someone’s friend” she has decided that she may never speak to Hasselback again. Rosie says they have exchanged emails and Hasselback even called and spoke with O’Donnell’s partner, Kelli, but Elisabeth didn’t get through to the queen bee. She says that during the argument she saw on one of the monitors they had gone to the dueling views. “When I saw the split screen I knew it was over.” Rosie felt it made it more like Jerry Springer’s show than The View. Somehow I doubt that Elisabeth Hasselback could possibly care if ...

The Dark Knight: First Look at Heath Ledger as The Joker
2007-05-28 09:40:46
I was thrilled with the revival of Batman with 2005’s Batman Begins starring Christian Bale and directed/co-written by Christopher Nolan. Nolan can do no wrong in my eyes as he’s successfully provided hit after hit (Memento, The Prestige), but I’ll admit that I was rather stirred over the next film’s villain. At the end of Batman Begins the calling card of a new enemy is revealed, a Joker card, clearly marking Batman’s next target. I usually have an issue with people messing too much with classic content and Tim Burton’s Batman film combined with Jack Nicholson’s portrayal of The Joker is about as classic as you can get. But I’m willing to give Nolan the benefit of the doubt as I suspect he’ll be able to pull off an even darker version of The Joker in the next film, The Dark Knight. In the picture below you’re album to catch a first up close glimpse of Heath Ledger all dolled up as The Joker. He (The Joker) looks to ...

Weekend Movie Box Office Round-up: May 25 - May 27, 2007
2007-05-27 22:32:22
Arrggh! Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow and the rest of his crew returned this weekend to swash buckle their way through the theaters and mightily take command of the box office. While it didn’t reach the levels of Pirates of the Caribbean 2 or the new record holder, Spider-Man 3, it still pulled in a healthy set of gold. Geez, that was a lot of pirate talk, no more, I promise. Considering how well Pirates did this weekend it was surprising to see how well the #2 movie, Shrek the Third, did as well. After the #2 spot the gap widens a little more with Spider-Man 3 still managing to reach into the double digit millions to break the $300 million cumulative gross mark. The second new release for this weekend, Bug starring Ashley Judd, snuck into the #4 spot but still had a rather sad debut and probably didn’t earn enough to pay off the catering bill for that production. If these movies weren’t quite your thing you’ll have a big set of movies coming ...
Pirates of the Caribbean 3: At World?s End Review
2007-05-27 16:35:16
Yo ho, Yo Ho, a pirates life for me! Arrrgh! So how was Pirates of the Caribbean 3 ye ask? Long, very very verrrrry long, especially after the 50 gallon drum they give you if you order a medium drink! Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End Director: Gore Verbinski Starring: Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley, Stellan Skarsgard, Geoffrey Rush Genre: Action/Adventure, Adaptation and Sequel Duration: 2 hr. 45 min. Rated: PG-13 for intense sequences of action/adventure violence and some frightening images. Plot: As the threat to pirates-at-large near its climax, Will Turner (Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Knightley) form an alliance with surprise accomplice Captain Barbossa (Rush) and sail to the Far East in order to save Jack Sparrow from the mysterious afterworld known as Davey Jones’s Locker. I went with 3 boys all under the age of 12 (which of course meant 4 trips to the bathroom). They loved it! “It was even funnier than the second movie! But there w ...

Rosie O?Donnell Cat-Fight Results in Extra-Early Exit
2007-05-27 08:27:13
After a major on air blow out with View co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck last week, Rosie O’Donnell will not even be returning to finish the last three weeks of her contract with the show. It had previously been announced that Rosie O’Donnell’s contract with The View was not going to be renewed. Rosie’s big mouth had already gotten her into a lot of ratings-enriching trouble this season which including a high profile feud with Donald Trump, offensive remarks about Chinese people, and frankly ridiculous statements regarding the 9/11 attacks. After the argument, Rosie reportedly left the building in a very mature way by trashed her dressing room. Followed shortly after by a one of her writers who defaced a picture of Hasselbeck hanging in the hallway at ABC. After this incident Rosie will not be returning to the show at all even to shoot any of the special episodes that were planned prior to her departure. In case you didn’t see it here is the video from the big ...
Starcraft II Coming Soon to a PC Near You!
2007-05-26 22:55:27
The Protoss, Terrans, and Zerg are almost ready to resume their conflict again. This week Blizzard Entertainment unveiled Starcraft II at the 2007 Blizzard Worldwide Invitational event in Seoul, South Korea. It has been nearly 10 years since the original Starcraft was released in 1998. It is still played today by tens of thousands of gamers world wide. Starcraft II will include new units for each of the 3 races, a new 3D-graphics engine which looks awesome, and a number of other new features. When it is released Starcraft II it will be available for PC and MAC (Sorry XBox fans!). When will it be released? Blizzard has not yet set a release date yet (but you know they’ll want to have it on shelves before Christmas). Here is the CGI trailer appropriately entitled “Hell, it’s about time” and a video of the game itself: Starcraft 2 CGI Announcement Trailer “Hell, it’s about time” Game Demo: ...

Weekend Movie Preview: Trailers & Details May 25 - 27
2007-05-25 10:00:28
This weekend is another roll out for a big, big blockbuster and a little sidekick film. Johnny Depp is back to reprise his role as Jack Sparrow in the third, and supposedly final, installment in the Pirates of the Caribbean films. Along with it comes a creepy looking film about bugs and drugs that I don’t think I’m brave enough to sit through. If you aren’t interested in either of these, check out the new DVD releases for this week. Hope you have a great weekend. Thanks for stopping by Wild Bluff Media this week! Here are all your movie details & trailers for this weekend, May 25 - 27. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End Director: Gore Verbinski Starring: Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley, Stellan Skarsgard, Geoffrey Rush Genre: Action/Adventure, Adaptation and Sequel Duration: 2 hr. 45 min. Star Wars Turns 30!
2007-05-25 09:00:10
I can hardly believe that it was thirty years ago that I went with my Dad, my Uncle, and my cousins to go see Star Wars while we were on vacation. I’m feeling old today. At the time it, I remember it being the most amazing movie I had ever seen. Now to be fair I hadn’t seen that seen many movies (I’m not that old). I can still remember that night after seeing it, in the bedroom with a flashlight playing Jedi Knight on the bed when I should have been sleeping. I’ve now watched all six movies with my own kids. I watch them play with their Star Wars figures just like I did when I was their age (the ones we had from Kenner when we were kids were better) and battle in the back yard with plastic light sabers (I wish we had those!). Who would have known back then that that silly little space opera would turn into the multi-billion dollar franchise it is today. Why did Star Wars become such a phenomenon? Was it because it used an order of magnitude more special ...
