Shrek in a Kilt!
2007-06-14 07:00:15
“Why is it called a kilt? Because if you call it a skirt, you get kilt!”
This week everyone’s favorite ogre received his very own Scottish tartan. VisitScotland came up with the idea to encourage people to trace their own history and Scottish roots. Jenni Steele, senior PR Manager at VisitScotland, said the “fun project” had a serious side.”We wanted to highlight just how diverse Scotland’s heritage can be - and if Shrek can have a tartan, so can anyone,” she said. “There are thought to be in excess of 50 million people across the world who can claim Scottish ancestry. So this is a great opportunity to be able to link our national heritage with such a well loved film character.” Steele presented Shrek producer Jeffrey Katzenberg with the official Scottish clan tartan at The Dorchester Hotel on June 11, 2007 in London, England. (You’d think they at least could have done it in Edinburgh!)
The tartan was specially ...

Assault on Precinct 13: Movie Review
2007-06-13 12:00:52
Assault on Precinct 13
Director: Jean-Francois Richet
Starring: Ethan Hawke, Laurence Fishburne, John Leguizamo, Drea de Matteo, and Maria Bello
Genre: Action/Adventure, Crime/Gangster and Remake
Duration: 1 hr. 49 min.
Rated: R for strong violence, language and drug content.
Plot: With only a few hours left in the calendar year, Precinct 13, one of Detroit’s oldest precinct houses, is closing amidst a heavy winter storm. Sergeant Jake Roenick, a good cop wrestling with bad memories of a fatal undercover ‘op’, must protect crime lord Marion Bishop from dirty cops who’d rather seem him dead than talking in court. Greatly outnumbered Roenick is forced to arm his prisoners, including Bishop, and fight off the assault on his precinct with few weapons, choices, or hope.
My review: Assault on Precinct 13 is a remake of the 1976 original by the same name. Having seen only the remake I’m not really sure what the producers thought they could add to the ...

Psst K-Fed: You Got Shar Jackson Preggers, Again
2007-06-13 10:07:08
Well isn’t this sweet. New York Post is reporting that K-Fed’s ex, Shar Jackson is pregnant again with his child again. It doesn’t look like this happened during his sure-to-last marriage with Britney Spears though. At reportedly just seven weeks pregnant this would place their reunion around the end of April. I can’t believe it took him a full four weeks after their settlement to get around to another pregnancy.
The best part about this whole global nightmare is that Star magazine is reporting K-Fed doesn’t even know about this new bundle of joy yet. Glorious. Shar actually hopes that this new pregnancy will reunite the couple as a family. If we take a look back at K-Fed’s history I think one thing will ring true: getting women pregnant instills a sense of responsibility, duty, and dedication in Kevin’s heart. Wait, what? ...

American Idol: Taylor Hicks? ?Heart Full of Soul? Memoir
2007-06-13 10:00:13
Add author to American Idol season 5 winner’s, Taylor Hicks, resume. Going on sale this July 10 is Hicks’ memoir, “Heart Full of Soul“, an inspirational look at “finding your voice and finding your way.” Well, Taylor Hicks didn’t actually write it, that was covered by ghostwriter David Wild, but he did collect a healthy advance of $750,000 on the book, according to the New York Post.
Taylor Hicks provides a brief glimpse into the book on Random House’s website:
In Heart Full of Soul, I share some life stories that will hopefully inspire you?give you a sense of my philosophy and how it drove me. For example, I talk about my good friend who died in a tragic accident and the prediction he made that tugged at my thoughts throughout Idol?s qualifying rounds. I also discuss what it was like when I realized Eminem has it right: when you only have one shot, you?d better lose yourself in the music.
A lot of great fans lined up behind me the ...

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots - E3 2006 Video
2007-06-13 08:00:46
Metal Gear Solid and its hero, Solid Snake, have come a long, long way since their induction to Playstation in 1998. Here is the E3 2006 video for the upcoming Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. It will be released for PS3 in 2007, at least that’s what they promise. I wouldn’t go expecting it to ever show up on other platforms though either.
In this latest release the story has progressed rather far down the road as you see Snake at a rather late stage in life. That doesn’t seem to stop him from joining the fight once again. This time though it seems to be fighting some sort of biological robots that remind me of something from Robocop. The video has subtitles as the voice-over is not in English. The graphics are amazing and the story looks pretty awesome as well.

Miami Ink Returns Tonight on TLC
2007-06-12 16:35:11
Whether your a Tat fan or not, get ready for Miami Ink coming back on TLC for its third season starting tonight at 10pm. Miami Ink is a reality show that follows the artists and events at a tattoo shop in Miami Beach. The episodes look at the customers and their backstory for their tattoo selection.
Last season Kat, the sole female artist in the shop, left the show after repeated disagreements with the shop’s owner, Ami James. She’s set to get her own spinoff, LA Link, sometime soon. You can check out her departure from the show last season in the video below:
Personally, I couldn’t ever get one much less a full body one like the guy above (makes me uncomfortable just to look at it!), but the show is supposed to be pretty good. Check it out and let us know what you think. ...

Corpse Bride: Movie Review
2007-06-12 10:00:14
Corpse Bride
Director: Tim Burton, Mike Johnson
Starring: Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, and Emily Watson
Genre: Action/Adventure, Comedy and Kids/Family
Duration: 1 hr. 16 min.
Rated: PG for some scary images and action, and brief mild language.
Plot: Set in a 19th century European village, young Victor is whisked away to the underworld and wed to a mysterious Corpse Bride, while his real bride, Victoria, waits bereft in the land of the living. Though life in the Land of the Dead proves to be a lot more colorful than his strict Victorian upbringing, Victor learns that there is nothing in this world, or the next, that can keep him away from his one true love.
My review: I love Tim Burton movies. Love ‘em. So I finally got around to picking up Corpse Bride from Netflix after reading it was a top rated HD-DVD for its visual quality. I had the impression Corpse Bride would be similar in style to The Nightmare Before Christmas, which would be a good thing. I was pleas ...

Just Married: Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber
2007-06-12 08:00:59
Long lasting couple, Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber, were recently married and made the reveal on Sunday night before the Tony Awards. The newlyweds are expecting their first baby in August, but they don’t know if it’s a boy or a girl yet. One request, whether it’s a boy or a girl, name it something easy. “Liev Schreiber”? It spells like someone tripped carrying a Scrabble board.
Congratulations to the couple, and seriously, think about it.

Hell?s Kitchen Recap and Review: Season 3 Episode 2 - 6/11/07
2007-06-11 21:31:14
Last week we saw the worst service in Hell’s Kitchen history resulting in Tiffany getting kicked off of the show. Aaron has some serious issues. This guy needs to be on Dr. Phil’s show, not Gordon Ramsey’s. He is constantly breaking down and cracking under the pressure and its only week 2! Vinnie is the other problem child this season. Chef has it in for him but Vinnie seems like a jerk. He is looking for trouble so I have no sympathy for him.
Challenge
At 6AM after 3 hours of sleep the chefs were woken up and sent to see the Chef. He was very unhappy that they had wasted so much food last night. So he took them out to the parking lot and tossed them dead fish which they had to catch and them carry to their storerooms. Aaron then started crying again causing chef Ramsey to give him a 15 minute time out.
The team that prepared the most Dover Soles to Chef Ramsey’s standards would win the challenge. The blue team only prepared 8 of which 4 were from Josh. ...

Don?t Miss TV: June 11 - 15, 2007
2007-06-11 12:00:20
It’s another week of television shows coming at you and we’re here to help. Here’s a break down by night of what you need to be sure to catch and what’s going on this week, June 11 - 15, 2007. It’s the summer season, so the schedule is made up of a lot of repeats (which we don’t cover) and then a lot of summer programming which means mostly new reality TV episodes. Thankfully there are a few nuggets of enjoyment out there like Pirate Master and Hell’s Kitchen which started up last week. Take a look and see what other shows you don’t want to miss this week.
Monday:
Hell’s Kitchen: 9-10pm on Fox; Members of the men’s and women’s teams face off in a food-prep challenge that rewards the winning team with a chance to spend time with Chef Ramsay away from the kitchen (Ahhh!). By the end only 10 chefs will remain.
Creature Comforts: 8-8:30pm on CBS; Self Image; Winging It; Art - Birds and pigs discuss flying; poker- ...

Grey?s Anatomy: Katherine Heigl?s Contract Renewed
2007-06-11 10:00:57
Following last week’s not-so-surprising turn of events that left Isaiah Washington without a TV home for this fall the news has come along that Katherine Heigl will indeed have her contract renewed with Grey’s Anatomy.
Heigl was the last of the cast to receive her pickup letter following contract dispute issues earlier this year. The rising star had earlier demanded per episode payouts of $200,000 which would bring her inline with co-stars Ellen Pompeo and Sandra Oh. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly last month Heigl had this to say:
I just want to be treated with the same respect they’re showing the other actors, and so far they’ve refused to do that.
It looks like Heigl will have plenty of options in the future though should her Grey’s Anatomy career stumble in the future. Her blockbuster comedy, Knocked Up, made over $46 million in less than a week in the theaters which should provide a strong fan base for her next movie 27 Dresses ...

Lt. Andy Baldwin: An Officer and a Gentleman and a Humanitarian
2007-06-11 07:50:40
Lt. Andy Baldwin is back in the news following the completion of his appearance in the TV series The Bachelor where he proposed to rose collector Tessa. So what’s Mr. Big Smile up to these days back home in Hawaii? Well apparently the TV life was good to him because he’s decided to join up with ABC’s Extreme Makeover Home Edition where he’ll be helping to build a new home for a family from Kalihi.
The family’s home was damaged by flood water in late 2004 and as such it will be completely demolished and rebuilt from the group up. Family matriarch Theresa “Momi” Akana is no stranger to lending a helping hand as she is the founder of the nonprofit Keiki O Ka Aina Family Learning Center. The center provides free education support for regional families.
So who wants to place bets on Andy’s contractual obligations requiring him to wear no shirts and smile real big the whole time? Good for him though. That’s cool to see him us ...
