cloverfield, CLOVERfield, CLOVERFIELD! 1-18-08 Is Here
2008-01-18 10:00:55
1-18-08 is finally upon and with it brings us Cloverfield, JJ Abrams’ newest and likely most hyped project. In honor of this mysterious monster who wants to rip apart New York City I thought we could take a look back over the past six months worth of its viral marketing.
Our first glance was the teaser trailer tacked on to the front of The Transformers. We didn’t learn much more from that trailer than our new pal Rob was trying to make a peaceful exit off to Japan only to have his bon voyage party interrupted. The trailer brought up lots of rumors. It sounded to me like the guy was yelling “it’s a lion,” but it turns out that was “it’s alive.” So yeah, we pretty much new nothing.
So after months of little more than jarring camera shots plenty more rumors popped up regarding the monster. Most of those rumors were false and our reports on the matter were no better. What we thought could be the actual monster turned out to just b ...

America’s Next Top Model Reveals Season 10 Models
2008-01-18 08:00:48
America’s Next Top Model returns for its 10th Season, Wednesday, February 20th, on the CW. Fans of the show will notice several changes this season. In Season 10 the show will return to New York after spending the past five seasons in L.A. Tyra Banks will host the show as usual. She will be joined by returning judges J. Alexander and Nigel Barker. New this season will be Paulina Porizkova who will replace Twiggy on the panel this season. We last saw Paulina when she was eliminated in the first week of Dancing With The Stars last spring.
The cast will be expanded to 14 models competing for the Top Model spot. When reviewing the girls I was surprised to see only a single girl from California. I’m assuming the high proportion of girls from the east coast is a result of the show’s return to NYC. Season 10’s 14 models are:
- Aimee, Spanaway, WA
- Allison, Waunakee, WI
- Amis, Bartlesville, OK
- Anya, Honolulu, HI
- Atalya, Brooklyn, NY
- Claire, New York, NY

Coming Soon: In Bruges - Trailer & Details
2008-01-17 12:11:01
Considering how much I enjoyed last year’s “Shoot ‘Em Up” I’m willing to bet “In Bruges” will be right up my alley. While it might not present that same over the top action scenes I think there will be plenty of humor and zingers to match the bullets flying around. Of all the cast I’m most surprised to see Fiennes as I just don’t feel like he’s doing as many projects as he used to. I guess when you’ve got Harry Potter filling your schedule and bank account you don’t really have to do too much else. Farrell also looks about 10 years younger than he did in “Miami Vice“. I’m looking forward to how this one will turn out. What about you?
In Bruges - Details:
Release Date: 8 February 2008 (limited)
Genre: Action / Comedy
Starring: Colin Farrell, Ralph Fiennes, Brendan Gleeson
Director: Martin McDonagh
Expected Rating: R for strong bloody violence, pervasive language and some drug use.

Tom Cruise Is Still Better Than You; Scientology Awards Video
2008-01-17 11:00:35
I’m grateful for folks like Tom Cruise who can put me in my place and remind me that with alien souls trapped in my body I will never reach my full potential. Oh Tom, you so crazy. Check out Tom receiving a Scientology award for being the biggest nut job of them all. At least I think that’s what he did. Run Katie! Now while he’s not looking!

Lost’s Matthew Fox Talks Season 4 Spoilers
2008-01-17 10:00:19
Lost Season 3 left a lot of things to be desired, but while the first 19 episodes stunk worse than Sawyer’s sweaty shirts the final four shows finally started to show there could still be some life left in that island after all. In the end of the season we saw a flash-forward to scenes of a disheveled Jack, an indifferent Kate, and a unnamed casket, all of which are apparently the result of Jack’s decision to radio in for help. We also know, thanks to Charlie’s dying words (well, it was actually written on his hand) that the boat they were contacting wasn’t Penny’s. From the teaser trailer for season 4 we know some bad folks are coming to town and things are going to get rough.
Okay, that’s the end of safe talk for Lost’s next season. If you want to avoid spoilers stop now and go no further. However, if you want some insight from Matthew Fox (Jack) on what to expect and why Jack was so messed up in the flash-forward then read on.

X-Files 2: New Photo From The Set
2008-01-17 09:12:24
I don’t think I could be anymore excited for the upcoming X-Files movie sequel which started filming in December 2007. I could try, but it wouldn’t happen. If you weren’t as excited then maybe this photo from the X-Files 2 set will get you worked up. Or maybe not. Okay, yeah, the photo isn’t terribly intense, but it does prove that Mulder and Scully do in fact still know how to walk, talk, and wear long coats. In case you’re studying to be a rogue FBI agent those are all important skills to first acquire.

Stardust: Movie Review
2008-01-17 08:00:43
Directors: Matthew Vaughn
Starring: Claire Danes, Charlie Cox, Michelle Pfeiffer, Robert De Niro, Sienna Miller
Genre: Adventure, Fantasy, Romance
Rated: Rated PG-13 for some fantasy violence and risque humor.
Plot: Stardust is the story of young Tristan, who crosses the wall into the whimsical world of Stormhold to win the heart of his true love by bringing her a fallen star.
My Review: Stardust came out in August of 2007. I had wanted to catch it in the theaters but just never had a chance. It was released on DVD just before Christmas and I finally got around to renting it last weekend. Damn am I pissed. I cannot believe I slept on this movie. This movie is probably one of the best, most unique movies I have seen in years. We watched it Friday night, then again on Saturday, and then my kids watched it again on Sunday which I only caught a part of. I was amazed because each time I watched this movie I liked it even more. In fact I loved this movie so much that I intend to hit A ...

American Idol Season 7 Dallas Auditions Recap - January 16, 2008
2008-01-16 20:58:58
Whew, Dallas definitely had its rough spots. That Douglas dude was pretty scary. Even Paula was ran out of patience with this guy. I was at work late tonight so I didn’t have any patience for him either. He couldn’t sing and his only talent seemed to be wondering around aimlessly mumbling to himself. If he had sung the stalker song to Paula we heard last night I would have called the cops. Yeah, he was that scary. In the end the big security gorillas had to escort him from the judges presence because he wouldn’t even listen to them. The chick who followed him in Angela Ryan, was really awful too. She was really hot which is good for her because she can’t carry a tune in a bucket as the saying goes. She had obviously damaged her husband’s hearing because he thought she was good.
There were a few folks who made it to Hollywood who were questionable at best. The third strike was the weird politician kid. Just for future reference his name was Kyle Ensle ...

Summer Glau: Photo Gallery
2008-01-16 12:00:18
Summer Glau is one of the stars of the new FOX series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. On this program, Glau plays the Cameron Phillips the attractive teen-aged terminator sent from the future to protect John Connor. This series just premiered this week and she kicked ass on it (no, literally, she is a terminator after all). Glau is already well known to SciFi fans from her work on The 4400, Firefly, and the Firefly movie Serenity. Her fan base is only likely to grow from here. Here is a look at Summer from the past several years as well as the Sarah Connor Chronicles. Hope you enjoy.

Crowned: Episode 6 “Beauty Is Only Skin Deep” Preview
2008-01-16 11:00:43
Crowned: The Mother of All Pageants returns for its sixth episode tonight on The CW. Last week we saw Heather and Brenda’s team “Goal Driven Gals” desashed by rival team “Sincere Sexy Reds”. That means, somehow, the graceful Angela and her daughter will continue on this week as you can see in the video below. I can’t imagine they’ll last much longer. This week’s challenge sounds like a pretty good cause as they’ll be helping out with Habitat for Humanity. The preview blurb notes a fight will break out between a mother and daughter. I’d put all my chips on that being between Laura and Patty as we’ve already seen them get into it a few times. We’ll know soon enough.
Here’s a preview summary for tonight’s episode of Crowned:
Mother/daughter pairs keep the high heels in the closet and put on the steel toes for a day of getting dirty - with Habitat for Humanity. The ladies must take their pageant ...

“Smash Lab” Premieres Tonight On Discovery Channel
2008-01-16 10:00:02
My favorite episodes from Mythbusters are when Jamie and Adam are blowing things up to test their limits or just their blow-up-ability. So it brings me great joy that Discovery Channel is putting together an entire series that does just that with “Smash Labs”. The show description gives you plenty of details, but the video below is where you’ll find the fun stuff (big explosions and plenty of crashes).
Smash Lab features a team of maverick engineers as they take on everyday technology and apply it in revolutionary new ways. First they break down the technology to see how it works and then use their know-how to see how it could be used in a different, supersized way. Could bulletproof Kevlar protect an airliner from bombs? Could a car airbag be reinvented to stop a helicopter from sinking after ditching at sea? The Smash Lab team aims to find out.
Smash Labs premieres tonight at 10pm on Discovery after Mythbusters. Check it out.

Even Without Golden Globes Celebs Still Get Their Swag!
2008-01-16 08:00:01
When we reported that the Golden Globes were canceled, I said that I felt bad for the nominees and winners because this was their big chance to be honored by their fans, peers, and the industry. Well even though there wasn’t an awards ceremony this year, Golden Globes guests were still able to fill their goody bags. Over the weekend, Nathalie Dubois and DPA, one of Hollywood’s premier entertainment strategy companies, hosted the 2008 World Experience DPA gift lounge held at the The Peninsula Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. Despite the cancellation of the Golden Globes, Dubois and DPA decided to not to cancel the gift lounge to honor the Golden Globe celebrities and Hollywood insiders.
Gift lounges like these aren’t just nice perquisites for Hollywood heavyweights. Their main purpose is high end marketing to introduce the rich and famous to brands and products they may not yet be familiar with. Think of it as the free samples from the Chinese place in the foo ...

American Idol Season 7 Auditions - Jan 15, 2008
2008-01-15 21:01:54
Its Back! American Idol Season 7 kicked off tonight with auditions in Philadelphia. It didn’t take long for the judges to get into their usual form. Randy was laughing hysterically, Paula staring in wonder, and Simon… well lets just say Simon was Simon. He hasn’t changed one bit. Randy has the beard going this season which makes him look a little sinister.
It didn’t take long for them to find some good candidates who got themselves a golden ticket to Hollywood. In fact by the end of day 2 they had found 29 contestants headed for Hollywood. I remember in the old days when you actually weren’t sure if a contestant was going to make it or not. They always give it away now. They always do a short segment on their story just before a good contestant is about to go in to audition. For example we got to see Kristy Lee Cook practice her Mixed Marshal Arts and ride her horses. Obviously if they spent that much time taping her at home out west she was going t ...
