The Sopranos: David Chase Comments on “The Ending”
2007-07-24 12:00:34
If the final episode of The Sopranos left you in a downer like most of its audience then you might be interested in the bread crumbs David Chase is tossing out. While attending the Television Critics Association award event on Saturday Chase made these comments regarding the show’s abrupt ending, according to the Orlando Sentinel:
“It is possible and very likely to be sitting in a restaurant in New Jersey, and everything just stops,” Chase said Saturday night.
Earlier in the evening, Chase was more flip. “Here’s another clue for you all: The Walrus was Paulie,” he joked.
I’ve gotta say that I’m a little surprised Chase isn’t more worried about “getting whacked” over the way he chose to end the show. But I guess when you’re calling the shots you get to end it whenever you…

Big Brother 8: Can Kail Survive Evil Dick’s Reign?
2007-07-24 11:00:45
There’s no doubt that Kail is in some serious trouble this week as she has fallen under the shadow of Evil Dick’s chopping block axe. But can the business owner from Oregon overcome this situation to keep fighting for that half million dollars? I’ll admit that Kail definitely surprised and impressed me in her role as “the older gal“. Usually that character is much more reserved and takes the route of passive and hidden. Kail did no such thing and it could easily be the cause of where she sits right now. Despite what she may have done to put herself in this position it’s interesting to examine just what are her chances of escaping disaster?
Right from the start Kail was full mode into strategy and alliances. As her once full of potential alliance, Mrs. Robinson, is becoming fully exposed we are constantly reminded of how Kail initiated this group on the first day. I was surprised by how easily she pulled the three big guys into her circle ...

The Price is Right for Drew Carey
2007-07-24 10:00:39
After months of speculation a host has finally been selected for replacing Bob Barker on the longest running American TV game show, The Price is Right. During taping for Monday’s episode of David Letterman guest Drew Carey, 49, made the reveal that he had been selected as the replacement host. Take that Rosie!
The Associated Press reported on Carey’s surprise over the opportunity:
“My agent called me and said `I was talking to CBS casting today’ and in my head I was thinking, `Oh, `CSI’ guest star?’ And he said what would you think about replacing Bob Barker on `The Price is Right?’”
Asked if he found the prospect of replacing such a TV legend daunting, Carey recalled talking to a friend who knows the game show business who told him, “as long as Bob Barker is cool with it, the fans will be cool with it.”
“I’m cool with it,” Barker said after hearing Carey’s remarks.
While I’m certainly ha ...

Big Brother 8: Week 3 Power of Veto Preview - July 24, 2007
2007-07-24 09:00:03
Spoiler Free Zone ahead: We may know what’s going on with the live feeds, but for now we’ll keep this from ruining any broadcast surprises.
On Sunday night, Dick nominated Kail and Jen. OMG! Really, I don’t think anyone was surprised by this. The interesting thing will be if one of them manages to get themselves off of the block tonight by winning the Power of Veto. Who will Dick put up in their place? Mike and Zach are obvious choices since Dick has believes both of them wanted him gone last week and only changed their votes for Joe because they knew they couldn’t win. Nick is the other possibility, mainly because he is messing with Daniele’s head and Dick doesn’t like that.
Jen is on her own because I think all of the other house guests would like to see her leave (as would much of America). Ironically I think, so is Kail. I’m not sure she can’t trust any of her alliance partners to help her out especially as they are on the short ...

Hell’s Kitchen Recap and Review: Season 3 Episode 8 - 7/23/07
2007-07-23 21:33:31
With only 5 chefs left Chef Ramsay started the show by combining the remaining chefs into a single team. They celebrated with champagne which Chef Ramsay sprayed over the final five. The chefs traded in their red and blue jackets for new black ones.
Challenge
Tonight was the first individual challenge. Each cook had to create their own dish which will be judged by a panel of trend setting VIPs. The chefs were blind folded and taken to a secret location which turned out to be a high school cafeteria. They psyched us all out with their talk of trend setting VIPs and Jen’s reference to Mariah Carey. I was fooled too. The trend setters turned out to be 100 high school students. Each chef had 1 hour to prepare 100 servings of their dish. The students would try all five and vote for the one they liked the best. The winner would go with Chef Ramsay on a trip to Las Vegas! Here were their dishes:
Rock - Meatloaf on bread (looked like a burger)
Jen - Chicken and fettuccine
Julia ...

Age of Love: Episode 6 Recap - July 23, 2007
2007-07-23 21:06:40
Tonight, in the sixth episode of Age of Love, NBC’s new Reality TV show, Mark Philippoussis, 30, will continue his quest for romance as he dates two different groups of women. The first group, Cougars, which are our “older women” with ages ranging from 39 to 48. The second group of women, Kittens, are our younger women and range in age from 21 to 27 years old. With Mark caught somewhere in between it’ll be an interesting season to see who he picks and if he can answer, “Does age matter?”
This week things are really taking a change for the more interesting as the ladies are being pulled from their life of luxury and head for the hills. That’s right, it’s time to go camping and it looks like the producers are going to wish they had thought of this sooner. So what is the key to commotion in reality TV? Tequila! Mark and the ladies load up on tequila and wine and let the games get started. A series of “dares” lead to ...

I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry: Movie Review
2007-07-23 10:00:04
I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry
Starring: Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Jessica Biel
Director: Dennis Dugan
Genre: Comedy
Duration: 2hr 20mins
Rated: Rated PG-13 for crude sexual content throughout, nudity, language and drug references.
Plot: Two New York firefighters — Larry (James), a widower with two kids, and Chuck (Sandler), a consummate ladies’ man — pretend to be a gay couple in order to receive domestic partner benefits. They face a series of challenges in order to maintain their ruse, the toughest being Chuck’s feelings for the lawyer (Biel) who’s representing them.
My Review: The story of “Chuck and Larry” is certainly relevant in current gay rights issues, so I wasn’t sure how much that would weigh this comedy down. Let me assure you, it didn’t. I was pleasantly surprised though and found the movie to be enjoyable, humorous, and reasonable enough to be taken as serious as a comedy can handle. There’s plenty of ...

Hell’s Kitchen Preview: Season 3 Episode 8 - 7/23/07
2007-07-23 09:00:02
Last week Brad got sent home from Hell’s Kitchen. Neither team did a very good job and as a result one member of each team was nominated. I was surprised that Chef Ramsay selected Brad over Bonnie though. Bonnie was cooking without even having the gas turned on! Chef Ramsay said he just didn’t feel Brad had what it took to be a great chef.
With only 5 chefs remaining, Chef Ramsay will combine the two teams tonight. This apparently leads to some personality conflicts between Rock and Jen when the chefs get to prepare dinner for some special VIPs. I’ll be interested to see who it will be. The preview last week implied that it will be a major star like Mariah Carey, but I’ll believe it when I see it. Josh also ticks off Chef Ramsay tonight (Ooo, there’s a surprise.) and Julia has a total melt down. Chef Ramsay gets so angry tonight that he eliminates one of the chef’s before the dinner service is even over. This is the part I’m most looking f ...

Age of Love: Episode 6 Preview - July 23, 2007
2007-07-23 08:00:34
Update: Check out our recap of tonight’s episode.
Tonight on Age of Love we’ll continue our journey with Mark Philippoussis, 30, as he tries to discover if age really matters when it comes to love. Last week Mark only had to select one woman to go home overall from both groups and he chose to send home Mary of the Kittens. Not so surprising was his selection, however, the way Mary handled it for those few moments was a striking distance from her non-stop tears we’ve seen in every other episode. I was glad to see her keep in control as it provided the first glimpse of a Mary that wasn’t quite so annoying. Last week’s leaders from each group would probably have to be Amanda again from the Kittens and then Jennifer from the Cougars. I’ve been very surprised by Mark’s interest in Jennifer consider she repeats the peak age from the Cougars at 48 years old. I’m interested to see if these ladies can hold their lead.
This week the gan ...

Despite the apparent dangers of being an unwanted visitor in the kitchen at one of Paris’ most exclusive restaurants, Remy forms an unlikely partnership with Linguini, the garbage boy, who inadvertently discovers Remy’s amazing talents. 24 Elects A New President; That’s Ms. President To You
2007-07-23 06:00:20
All part of FOX’s plans to reignite the recently disappointing 24 series a new president has been selected. Instead of the standard issue male president the casting process has landed Cherry Jones, 51, in the role of Commander in Chief. I had to do a quick search on Ms. Jones to remember her roles in Ocean’s Twelve as Matt Damon’s mother and in Signs as the local sheriff. Jones has also made a name for herself as the first openly lesbian actress Tony Award winner in 1995. First lesbian, not the first gay to win an award for a stage act though I’m sure.
While I wasn’t entirely shocked by that aspect of Ms. Jones I was rather surprised to hear her partner is none other than Sarah Paulson from the recently departed “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.” And why yes, Sarah is 18 years younger than Cherry Jones. Regardless of the cast’s sexual orientation I’m just hoping for 24 to really turn around this next season as I was reall ...

Big Brother 8: Week 3 Nominations Recap - July 22, 2007
2007-07-22 21:00:46
Spoiler Free Zone ahead: We may know what’s going on with the live feeds, but for now we’ll keep this from ruining any broadcast surprises.
Tonight there were three major events which took place in the Big Brother house. The first was the fallout in the Mrs. Robinson Alliance after Thursday night’s eviction, the second had to do with was Daniele and Nick’s relationship and last but not least was Dick’s nominations. Lets take them one at a time.
Mrs. Robinson’s Failing Alliance:
Kail was obviously distraught that her boys all voted for Joe and left her swinging in the breeze as the only house guest to vote for Dick. Mike cast his vote for Joe, because he knew that Dick was staying so voting for Dick was just to give him cover. When Kail confronted Mike about his vote he didn’t have a lot to say. She was bitter that Mike didn’t at least tell her and I don’t blame her. His excuse: I thought she knew how everyone in the house was votin ...

Weekend Movie Box Office Earnings Round-up: July 20 - 22, 2007
2007-07-22 13:55:41
Chuck and Larry pulled their own magic act this weekend and overwhelmed Harry Potter to take the number one spot at the box office with a not too shabby earning of $34.7 million. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix managed to hold onto second with $32.1 million while beating out the other newcomer this weekend, Hairspray. An initial article I read completely skipped over Hairspray in its list leading me to believe it pulled a Captivity act like last weekend and entirely miss the top 10. The rest of the movies fell in line with last weekend’s rankings. I enjoyed Sandler and James’ “Chuck and Larry” comedy this weekend which seems to be polarized by a lot of the other reviews out there. My review for that will be up in the morning. As far as “Hairspray”, I’ve gotta admit that I’m surprised it made as much as it did. If you saw any of the movies this weekend, let us know what you thought in the Comments section below.
