Hell’s Kitchen Recap and Review: Season 3 Episode 9 - 7/30/07
2007-07-30 22:18:31
Only 3 chefs are left tonight on Hell’s Kitchen as the season nears its finale where Chef Ramsay will make his selection for this year’s chef. The remaining chefs are working together as one team. Let’s see how they handle the pressure tonight in Hell’s Kitchen. Challenge Tonight’s challenge for the remaining three chefs is to take a classic homemade dish and make it gourmet. Chef Ramsay brings out his mother to make an example and she presents mac and cheese. Ramsay belittles her for her lack of creative and presentation style. Just kidding! He’s clearly proud of his mom, but also brings out how he would now create a mac and cheese dish complete with roasted lobster and truffle shavings. One by one the chefs select their dishes blindly. Bonnie pulls “franks ‘n beans.” Jen lucks out with fried chicken. Rock closes the selections with spaghetti and meatballs. While Bonnie is visibly disappointed I think Rock is the ...
Age of Love: Episode 7 Recap - July 30, 2007
2007-07-30 21:12:41
Tonight, in the seventh episode of Age of Love, NBC’s new Reality TV show, Mark Philippoussis, 30, will continue his quest for romance as he dates two different groups of women. The first group, Cougars, which are our “older women” with ages ranging from 39 to 48. The second group of women, Kittens, are our younger women and range in age from 21 to 27 years old. With Mark caught somewhere in between it’ll be an interesting season to see who he picks and if he can answer, “Does age matter?” This week things have really narrowed down as there are just four women left and after tonight there will be only two! Of course things won’t all go smoothly though or this wouldn’t be any fun! If you remember from last week Amanda turned on Jayanna and blabbed to Mark about her “advice” to not believe that Mark had unique feelings for her. That was enough for Mark to give Jayanna a surprise boot and left her behind at the campsit ...
Don’t Miss TV: July 30 - August 3, 2007
2007-07-30 12:00:48
It’s another week of television shows coming at you and we’re here to help. Here’s a break down by night of what you need to be sure to catch and what’s going on this week, July 30 - August 3, 2007. Lots of reality TV again this week along with a few series running through the summer. This week the big reality TV bomb drops for me with the start of the eighth season of Big Brother. Oh yes, Big Brother 8 is now in full swing with shows 3 nights a week. Awesome. I’ve really been enjoying Age of Love, and Hell’s Kitchen. Startling news for all the pirate fans, but Pirate Master was canceled! Damn you CBS! Take a look and see what shows you don’t want to miss this week. Monday: Age of Love: 9-10pm on NBC; The women’s families arrive and are given the opportunity to question Mark. Later, Mark goes on several dates that include salsa dancing, high tea, and a carriage ride. Hilarious. I really want Jennifer’s parents to ...
Sunshine: Movie Review
2007-07-30 11:00:32
Sunshine Starring: Cillian Murphy, Cliff Curtis, Chris Evans, Rose Byrne Director: Danny Boyle Genre: Adventure / Sci-Fi / Thriller Duration: 1hr 47mins Rated: Rated R for violent content and language. Plot: Fifty years from now, the sun is dying, and mankind is dying with it. Our last hope: a spaceship and a crew of eight men and women. They carry a device which will breathe new life into the star. But deep into their voyage, out of radio contact with Earth, their mission is starting to unravel. There is an accident, a fatal mistake, and a distress beacon from a spaceship that disappeared seven years earlier. Soon the crew is fighting not only for their lives, but their sanity. My Review: Sunshine is a science fiction space thriller/horror movie that combines elements of 2001 Space Odyssey, Solaris, Event Horizon, and even a touch of Alien. Danny Boyle’s return to the horror genre along with a re-teaming with Cillian Murphy (28 Days Later) proved to be a very effective formul ...
Big Brother 8: Top 5 Houseguests So Far
2007-07-30 10:30:34
Even as we enter week 4 of Big Brother 8 I’m starting to get anxious to see the new alliances form and dominate the house. By now we should start to see the Alpha personalities as well as the more passive. While it’s still difficult to see these lines clearly yet I thought it’d be fun to take a look at who could be the Top 5 Houseguests this season. This list is in no particular order, just the Top 5 grouped. Dick: Kail was right to try and get him out the other week. Although Dick pissed most of the house off during his stint as HoH I think we’re seeing the old calmer Dick return to the house this week. Dick’s approach to call out alliances and secret conversations , well ones he’s not in, has proven to be a pretty strong tactic. This is forcing more people to operate in the open and reducing their chances of a sneak attack. Though I don’t think Dick can win this overall I suspect he’ll easily glide into the sequester house so ...
Age of Love: Episode 7 Preview - July 23, 2007
2007-07-30 10:00:26
Update: You can find our recap of tonight’s surprising dual elimination episode here. Tonight on Age of Love we’ll continue our journey with Mark Philippoussis, 30, as he tries to discover if age really matters when it comes to love. Last week Mark only had to select one woman to go home overall from both groups and he chose to send home Jayanna of the Cougars in a rather rough fashion. After criticizing her game play amongst the other ladies Mark and crew left her behind at the campsite. I was stunned by this selection as I really thought Jayanna was a front runner. Instead her attempt to discourage and persuade Amanda and Megan away from Mark backfired and instead led to her own dismissal. So now we’re down to just four women, two from each group. I’m not surprised by either of the Kittens that remain, Amanda and Megan, but the Cougars are a real shocker with Jennifer (the oldest at 48) and Maria. Tonight we’ll find out who makes the Top 3. ...
Hell’s Kitchen Preview: Season 3 Episode 9 - 7/30/07
2007-07-30 09:00:55
Update: Check out our recap of tonight’s Hell’s Kitchen episode. In case you missed last week’s episode, there was a bit of a stir in the kitchen which resulted in the lose of two chefs last week instead of one. Josh finally got on Chef Ramsay’s last nerve and in the middle of the dinner service Chef Ramsay, in his oh so quiet and polite way, told Josh to take off his jacket and the out of the kitchen. Bonnie was actually the best chef that night and nominated Rock and Julia. All three of the other chefs, Rock, Jen, and Julia had problems, Jen and Rock calling each other names and Julia could not seem to get any of the garnishes right. Julia was the second chef to go last week. On the bright side for her, Chef Ramsay stated that he was personally going to send her to culinary school and then invite her back to Hell’s Kitchen again. Tonight, Chef Ramsay has a big surprise in store for the remaining three chefs. He puts them under the gun as each chef ta ...
Leonard Nimoy To Return as Spock in Star Trek 11
2007-07-30 08:00:07
I was very surprised to hear that Leonard Nimoy, 76, would be returning to the role of Dr. Spock in JJ Abrams upcoming addition to the Star Trek franchise. This next film in the series will be the 11th installment and I hoped it would inject some fresh air. Returning to the old, literally, cast seems to be doing just the opposite. At some point they’re going to need to give up and move on from these guys. I guess in a way they sort of will be doing that, just in more baby steps than I’d like. Nimoy will be joined by Heroes villian Sylar, Zachary Quinto, in the role of Dr. Spock. Quinto, who seems like a perfect casting fit due to his appearance, will be taking over the “young Spock” angle. No word yet on who will be playing the young Captain Kirk, though rumor has it Shatner will also be back to support the role. JJ Abrams certainly seems to have a full plate these days with his Project Cloverfield / Monstrous coming out in early January, Lost returni ...
Big Brother 8: Week 4 Nominations Recap - July 29, 2007
2007-07-29 20:27:09
Tonight on Big Brother 8 we get to find out who the new HoH, Dustin, will nominate, who gets stuck with Big Brother Slop for the week, and who has the most drama! Let’s waste no time getting to the drama as the houseguests immediately try to figure out who was the second vote against Kail over Mike. We know that it was Eric as America’s Player, but the houseguests are struggling between Jen or Nick. Eric smiles the whole way through this as no one mentions him as a possibility. The next bit of drama comes from, of course, Dick as he argues with Amber over the importance of pets in relation to children. Sadly, Amber considers her dog as important as her child. She later backpedals and says she never said that, but she did. “I love my dog just as much as I love my daughter,” said Amber. Wow, that’s gotta make her daughter feel pretty good. I’m going to have to go with Dick on this one. Dick’s drama isn’t over for this show thou ...
Weekend Movie Box Office Earnings Round-up: July 27 - 29, 2007
2007-07-29 17:59:33
This weekend The Simpsons blew the competition out of the water with an amazing $71.8 million. While I certainly wasn’t impressed by the movie (see my review of The Simpsons Movie) I’m not entirely surprised by how much it earned considering after 18 years it was the first movie they’ve made. I wouldn’t be surprised to see another one in a few years after that sort of success. The other new releases didn’t all fare so well though No Reservations did better than I’d expect with $11.7 million. The Lohan bomb “Killed Me” limped to the finish line with $3.4 million just ahead of Big Boi’s “Who’s Your Caddy?” comedy. Chuck and Larry held on fairly well by only dropping one spot to #2, but still combined with last weekend’s earnings it comes up just shy of what The Simpsons did this weekend alone. Though it didn’t even come in the top 12 spots Sunshine proved to be an awesome sci-fi space adventure ...
Big Brother 8: Week 4 Nomination Preview - July 29, 2007
2007-07-29 09:00:28
Update: Check out our recap of tonight’s nomination episode to see who is on the chopping block. Spoiler Free Zone ahead: We may know what’s going on with the live feeds, but for now we’ll keep this from ruining any broadcast surprises. On Thursday night, Dustin pulled out the big win in the HoH competition. He is one of the house guests I didn’t really expect to win. Jessica and Amber are the other two who I would shock me if they won. So tonight should be pretty interesting. I have no idea what so ever who Dustin might nominate. Maybe I need to sign up for the live feeds before I try to make a prediction. I can take a stab at who Dustin will not nominate: Daniele, Dick, Amber. He seems to be pretty good pals with that lot. If I had to pick two people that Dustin would nominate I would probably fall back on the old standbys, Jen and Kail. Jen has irritated everyone in the house and Kail is still on a lot of people’s list as well although I have no i ...
Weekend Humor: FoneJacker - Joovc Doovde player
2007-07-28 12:00:13
Kayvan Novak has a new UK comedy series coming out, FoneJacker. It looks to be a Jerky Boys and Crank Yankers kind of show w/ the prank calls. The video below is one of the phone calls he makes to an electronics store as a slightly misinformed consumer looking for a Joovc Doovde player. I lost a little bit of my soda when I first watched this, so I hope you enjoy it. Feed Readers: click here to view the video ...

The Simpsons Movie: Movie Review
2007-07-27 13:16:53
The Simpsons Movie Starring: Dan Castellaneta, Nancy Cartwright, Hank Azaria Director: David Silverman Genre: Animation / Comedy Duration: 1hr 25mins Rated: PG-13 for irreverent humor throughout. Plot: When Homer pollutes the lake with toxic waste Springfield comes under fire from the EPA, possibly even leading to its complete destruction. D’oh. My Review: I went into The Simpsons Movie with few expectations other than a continued experience with the characters we’ve all grown to love over the past 18 years. Well that and the hope that after such a long wait we’d see something new from the Simpsons clan. Unfortunately the movie turned out to be little more than a bloated, regular episode and not even one of their best at that. The story focuses on the issue of pollution in the Springfield lake. Following a surprisingly boring townhall meeting which is usually rife with humorous outbursts (well okay, Moe does stand and say something like, “This is why we ...
Design Star: Season 2 Starts Sunday on HGTV
2007-07-27 12:00:50
This Sunday on HGTV the second season of the reality series Design Star will be starting. If you’re not familiar think The Apprentice meets Designing. While I’ll admit to having watched nearly every episode of House Hunters and Curb Appeal this was an HGTV show that I had completely missed. Lucky for me, and you, I got my hands on a promo copy of the season premiere of Design Star and it was actually pretty good. Instead of the usual, overstuffed casts Design Star starts off with a very manageable list of 11 designers. Well, mostly all designers. One of the contestants, Kim, seems to be there on a lucky chance as she’s actually a hair dresser from New York, though she declares there to be a close similarity between the two jobs. The rest of the cast ranges from your stay-at-home traditional tastes mom, Christina, to Californian surfer-dude Todd, and don’t forget “Sparkle” Josh who is not to be confused with regular Josh. Each week the desi ...
