Big Brother 8: Week 5 Power of Veto Recap - August 7, 2007
2007-08-07 21:32:29
Seems likes its been another few exciting days in the Big Brother 8 house. Dick started it off by telling Jen and Kail, “Don’t kid yourselves this time its sticking and one of you is going home.” He figured that even if the secret plan is to backdoor Eric, neither Jen nor Kail should feel any safer. Thanks to Jessica, Eric knew what their plan was. Jessica and Eric filled in Dustin, Amber, and Jameka. These three were not happy that Dick and Daniele hadn’t told them and that they were targeting one of the LNC’s own. This was the end of the LNC. Dustin believed that these five had to stick together and they should get Kail and Jen to help them vote out Dick and Daniele. If thats the case then Dick and Daniele might not have the votes to get Eric out. Zach decided to throw in his lot with D&D. He told Daniele that he would be willing to help her out and if he won the PoV he would do whatever she told him to do with it. She said that they were on the ...

Pirate Master: Episode 11 Recap
2007-08-07 17:42:01
After last week’s elimination of Nessa the competition has thinned out to only six pirates. The competition is getting fierce as these pirates are nearing the final treasure hunt. Tonight’s episode will prove another challenge for the new Triad alliance: Christa, Jay, and Ben; as they struggle to maintain their cohesive efforts despite the chance of being separated by teams. Can Jay keep Christa on a leash? Will Kendra survive another black spot (she’s had 5 so far!)? Let’s find out on Pirate Master Episode 11!
The show starts with Ben expressing his concerns over Jay’s sneaky pirate behavior. I think Ben should be pretty worried, but that shouldn’t be an issue this week as they seem to still be on good terms. Other than that life on the boat is going well for everyone as Captain Christa is a benevolent leader who doesn’t force her crew to do any work. This is quite a change of pace from the days of Joe Don! With so few crew membe ...

Underdog: Movie Review
2007-08-07 10:30:47
Underdog
Starring: Jason Lee, Peter Dinklage, James Belushi, Patrick Warburton, Alex Neuberger, Taylor Momsen, Amy Adams, Brad Garrett
Director: Frederik Du Chau
Genre: Action / Adventure / Comedy / Family / Fantasy / Sci-Fi
Rated: Rated PG for rude humor, mild language and action.
Duration: 1hr 24min
Plot: A lab accident gives a hound named Shoeshine some serious superpowers — a secret that the dog eventually shares with the young boy who becomes his owner and friend.
Speed of lightning, roar of thunder! Without a doubt when I was a very little kid, one of my two favorite superheroes was Underdog. When I heard they were making a movie of Underdog I decided that was the one movie I was going to make sure I took my kids to this summer. I was thrilled to hear that Underdog was going to be introduced to a whole new generation of kids. Underdog is one of the few superheroes who rarely gets any play. I’m sure in part that this is because he didn’t start out in comic boo ...

Big Brother 8: Week 5 Power of Veto Preview - August 7, 2007
2007-08-07 10:00:31
Spoiler Free Zone ahead: We may know what’s going on with the live feeds, but for now we’ll keep this from ruining any broadcast surprises.
On Sunday night we learned that Daniele hung in the longest to win HoH and has put into motion her big plan to backdoor Eric. Her actual nominations were for Jen and Kail, again, but she revealed they weren’t her target. While I commend her ability to figure out it was Eric casting the rogue vote I don’t quite understand why they would care. Eric’s useless votes against Kail for the past two weeks were exactly that, pointless. He didn’t cause any damage other than putting Nick under a microscope the first week of it. The second week though with Nick’s eviction it didn’t really matter. I guess Daniele and Dick (D&D) don’t like being deceived.
So now we have Jen and Kail on the block but for Daniele’s big plan to work out someone has to win the PoV and then use it. After last ...

Britney Spears Hits Car Then Miraculously Heals It
2007-08-07 07:44:55
I think I’m like most people when I list the most magical and inspiring women ever and include: Mother Teresa, Princess Di, and Britney Spears. While Spears may not yet have technically been deemed a Saint I think it’s only a matter of time after this latest incident, according to Daily Mail:
Britney Spears strikes again! The disaster-prone pop singer has left yet another mess in her wake - this time after crashing into a parked car.
The troubled star was pulling into an empty space when she hit the vehicle - a silver Mercedes station wagon - while visiting a Hollywood pharmacy.
After eventually scraping past, she then let her door swing out, hitting the car again.
She wasn’t injured, but left minor scratches on both vehicles.
Neither of her children, Sean Preston, 22 months, and Jayden, 11 months were in her black convertible at the time of the incident.
Nevermind that Brit was busy picking up more meds or that her boys weren’t in the car as they were ...

Age of Love: Episode 8 Season Finale Recap - August 6, 2007
2007-08-06 21:31:16
Tonight on Age of Love our journey with Mark Philippoussis, 30, is coming to a close as we discover “does age matter?” The show opens in Memento fashion with Mark stating the feared words of “it’s over” to one of the ladies. We only get to see the back her head though, but I think it looks like Amanda because the head is very narrow. My wife is thinking that’s Jennifer’s head though. Let’s find out!
A quick flashback through Mark’s scenes with each of the ladies remind us of his experiences with each of them. He’s of course very taken with Amanda’s breasts personality and we see all their little kisses. Jennifer, though, really knocked Mark back as he was amazed by how great she turned out to be. He noted that before this show he would have turned down a blind date with a 48 year old, but now that has changed for him.
The first stop on their Australian tour is Mark’s home where the ladies will meet his f ...

Hell’s Kitchen Recap and Review: Season 3 Episode 10 - 8/6/07
2007-08-06 21:31:00
Tonight’s episode was basically laying the ground work for Bonnie and Rock to face off for the final dinner service competition next week. Hell’s Kitchen was split in two. Each of the chefs was given half of the restaurant to run as their own from decorating to the menu they had to do it all themselves. Well mostly. The chefs got to meet with a designer to help them decorate their restraunt, had Jean-Phillipe help them design the uniforms for the wait staff, and had sous-chefs Scott and Maryann help them develop their menus.
Rock and Bonnie could not have been more different in what they wanted. Rock wants things very traditional and uniform while Boonie wanted and eclectic European feel to her restaurant. Bonnie wanted her wait staff all in black. Fortunately Jean-Phillipe talked Rock out of Jeans for his staff. Finally, Bonnie had some definite ideas on her menu and with Maryann’s help it seemed to come together pretty quickly. Rock was struggling to come up ...

Big Brother 8: Amber Not Too Keen On The Kosher
2007-08-06 20:26:21
So wow, I’m watching the live feeds tonight on Big Brother 8 and was a little bit stunned by the anti-Semitic crap that was pouring out of Amber’s mouth to her fellow houseguest Jameka. While I’m certainly bothered by what Amber is saying I wish Jameka had done a little more than quietly discounting what Amber says. Well to be fair Jameka tries to correct Amber’s course well after she’s done ranting. So in case you missed it, here’s Amber stinking up the house with her racist attitude, oh, and she brings down her sister and mom with her. Be patient with my transcription though as Amber can’t form an actual sentence when she talks. She jumps around a lot. Regardless, here is Amber spewing her ignorant views:
~5:30 PM PST [Amber and Jameka relaxing outside and talking alone]
Amber: …He was talking and he was like from New York and I remember thinking, “How typical he’s from New York. People from NY are f**ked up.&rd ...

Hot Rod: Movie Review
2007-08-06 10:00:16
Hot Rod
Starring: Andy Samberg, Isla Fisher, Jorma Taccone, Bill Hader
Director: Akiva Schaffer
Genre: Comedy
Rated: PG-13 for crude humor, language, some comic drug-related and violent content.
Plot: Amateur stuntman Rod Kimble has a problem–his step-father Frank is a jerk. Frank picks on Rod, tosses him around like a rag doll in their weekly sparring sessions, and definitely doesn’t respect him, much less his stunts. But when Frank falls ill, it’s up to Rod to stage the jump of his life in order to save his step-father. The plan: Jump 15 buses, raise the money for Frank’s heart operation, and then–kick his ass.
My Review: As much as I was excited about this movie and looking forward to it after enjoying Andy Samberg on SNL I’d be lying if I said Hot Rod was a good comedy. What was clearly an intentionally cheesy plot (see above) didn’t provide enough of a backbone to what should have been a great comedy. This is SNL clan work through and ...

Hell’s Kitchen Preview: Season 3 Episode 10 - 8/6/07
2007-08-06 09:00:08
I could not believe Jen got sent home last week! Granted she had the hardest time running the hot plate, but still I never would have believed that Bonnie would have outlasted Jen. Jen had an awesome run on Hell’s Kitchen this season and Chef Ramsay was right, she has nothing to be ashamed of and should hold her head high. I was really sorry to see Jen go. I have been convinced for weeks that it was going to be a Jen-Rock showdown in the end.
Have you noticed how Bonnie’s job has changed over the course of the season? When the show started she was a nanny and now she is describing herself more as a personal chef. I’m not buying it. With the loss of Jen I think Rock is a shoe in to win the restaurant in Las Vegas. Chef Ramsay has yelled at Bonnie none stop all season. The only reason she is still on is not because of how good she is, its because someone has managed to be worse than her every week. Bonnie has survived by flying under the radar all season. In a ...

Age of Love: Episode 8 Season Finale Preview - August 6, 2007
2007-08-06 08:00:22
Update: Check out our recap of tonight’s season finale to see who Mark picked.
Tonight on Age of Love we’ll complete our journey with Mark Philippoussis, 30, as he tries to discover if age really matters when it comes to love. Last week Mark didn’t even get the chance to eliminate anyone as there was a double self-elimination! First Maria finally lived up to her threats and told Mark she was pulling out of the contest. Mark replied that he had been planning to keep her around at least another week. I was getting tired of Maria’s crap and was glad to see her leave. I was sorry though to see the youngest contestant, Megan, drop out of the contest because she was too terrified to fly to Australia. The producers should count their lucky stars that they didn’t lose one more person or this show would have ended rather abruptly. With just two ladies left, Jennifer (the oldest Cougar) and Amanda (Kitten), Mark has just one more decision to make.
Before ...

Big Brother 8: Week 5 HoH & Nomination Recap - August 5, 2007
2007-08-05 19:58:32
Tonight on Big Brother 8 it’s time to find out who hangs in there the longest for the endurance competition that started on Thursday. There really wasn’t too much endurance to offer here though from most of these house guests. Amber lasts a whole six minutes, but she “tried, really tried.” Most of the guys fall quickly and Eric is disqualified for raising his torso too high. While the house guests that have dropped are waiting for the final four ladies (Jessica, Jen, Daniele, and Kail) a banner plane flies over. Considering how hard BB works to hide these from the houseguests and us I’m surprised they gave this air time. The banner read, “We love Nick. Eric & Amber are liars. The LNC = Nerd Herd.” Uh oh Eric. But what about Amber? Well she tells us she physically can’t lie. Apparently she physically can’t remember lying to Nick’s face last week either.
The heckling starts up shortly after as Dick tries to ge ...

Weekend Movie Box Office Earnings Round-up: August 3 - 5, 2007
2007-08-05 14:07:05
This weekend Matt Damon returned as Jason Bourne in The Bourne Ultimatum (movie review) to get answers to his past and take over as the #1 box office movie with a huge $70.18 million. The action was great and it was an exciting movie, but if you haven’t seen the first two you’ll be lost on the details. The Simpsons Movie still pulled in a very respectable $25.6 million on its second weekend out. I was very surprised to see Underdog grab the #3 with $12 million. The other new releases didn’t fare nearly as well. Hot Rod only earned $5 million, but squeaked out ahead of Bratz with $4.3 million and El Cantante with $3.2 million. Now to be fair to El Cantante, it was only in 542 theaters versus Hot Rod and Bratz with 2607 and 1509 theaters each, respectively. My review for Hot Rod will be up tomorrow morning, but if you’re looking for something to do this afternoon I’ll warn you now, give it a pass.
Here they are, your box office movie earnings for ...
