American Idol Season 7 S. Carolina Auditions Recap - Jan 23, 2008
2008-01-23 20:06:24
Tonight the American Idol auditions head across the country for a little southern hospitality. Simon, Paula, and Randy are in Charleston, South Carolina to see what the south has to offer. Of course if you had to judge based solely on the auditions they showed on the air it wouldn’t seem like the south had much but it seems that this year in particular they are really focusing on the awful auditions. Each night I think we’ve gotten to see maybe 20% of the people headed to Hollywood. I will say that while Charleston had its fair share of awful singers I tended to find them less irritating than the wackos we’ve seen in the other cities. The couple who met on the American Idol message boards were cute. They obviously were allowed to sing in front of Randy, Paula, and Simon because they had such a cute American Idol related story. It certainly wasn’t because they could sing. Jeffery and Michelle Lambkin, were a surprise. When were interviewed, I figured this auditi ...

Starz Series Premieres Tonight: Head Case & Hollywood Residential
2008-01-23 12:00:26
Tonight on Starz, Head Case and Hollywood Residential will premiere as two new comedy series in what could be an attempt for Starz to do what HBO did with Curb Your Enthusiasm. Not a bad idea either considering how good that was though that’s gonna be a tough act to follow. First up is Head Case. In Head Case, (premiering tonight at 10pm E/P), Dr. Elizabeth Goode (Alexandra Wentworth) is a celebrity therapist with an unorthodox approach to treating her patients. Famous faces like Joel Madden, Rosanna Arquette, Jeff Goldblum and Andy Dick, make appearances on this unconventional, boundary-pushing comedy. Next up you’ve got Hollywood Residential premiering at 10:30pm E/P. Residential follows a useless host of a celebrity home makeover show, struggling actor Tony King (Adam Paul), as he ruins celebrity homes while humiliating himself in pursuit of his big break. Guest stars include Jamie Kennedy, Chris Kattan, Paula Abdul, Carmen Electra, Tom Arnold and Cheryl Hines. Here ...

American Idol Season 7 S. Carolina Auditions Preview - Jan 23, 2008
2008-01-23 10:00:08
Last night the San Diego auditions gave us 31 contestants headed for Hollywood. Not bad. Tonight, Simon, Paula, and Randy head down to South Carolina to see what the South has to offer. Last season, 4 of the final 12 were from the South and the year before that 8 of the 12 were Southerners. As a result, I have high hopes for tonight. I’m sure we’ll have the usual assortment of crazies but, I’m counting on the South to represent again. In any case, I’ll be watching tonight to see if our American Idol judges can find another big batch of contestants to send to Hollywood. On a side thought, does anyone else feel like we’re getting lopsided with more women heading to Hollywood than men? Not that I’m opposed to that or anything. Maybe it’s just has more to do with the fact that we don’t get to see all 20 or 30 people from each audition stop who move on, so when it comes time to select who to show they decide the pretty blondes are more ...

Crowned: Episode 7 “Let’s Host A Cocktail Party” Preview
2008-01-23 08:00:34
Crowned: The Mother of All Pageants returns for its seventh episode tonight on The CW. Last week’s episode was hilarious with Laura and Patty chewing out Rachelle for winning the week’s contest of “best attitude” as they worked on the Habitat for Humanity home. It was hilarious because they were so clueless as to why they didn’t win and Rachelle and her mom, Mindy, did. It got better though when Angela and her daughter, Tenia, those classy gals, were told to desash themselves but ended up running away off stage because they said they wouldn’t be humiliated by anyone. Yeah, it was pretty entertaining and with just two last episodes to go in the first season I imagine most of these girls will pull out all the stops. Here’s a preview summary for tonight’s episode of Crowned: As the remaining teams prepare for the pageant finale, they’re instructed to host a V.I.P cocktail party for surprise guests at the mansion. The mother/da ...
American Idol Season 7 San Diego Auditions Recap - January 22, 2008
2008-01-22 20:19:00
San Diego greeted the American Idol judges with lots of love. In addition they were lucky enough to stay at the Rancho Bernardo Inn. I say that only because I’ve stayed at there before which and its pretty nice even though its a ways outside of San Diego. Through out the crowd there were signs everywhere like I love Paula and Randy’s my Dawg! Unfortunately the judges didn’t share the love for San Diego. San Diego really irritated Simon. He was especially nasty and impatient tonight. To be fair, I cannot believe that Monique chick is so delusional that she actually thinks that she can sing. Maybe those sweet (not!) boots Simon was wearing were pinching his toes and making him irritable. Day 1 in San Diego did end well for Simon though. The final audition of the day, Samantha Musa, just loved Simon. She liked his bad boy image. She was pretty cute except for the sore on her lip. I was happy to see her just because she was one of the only auditions that were worth w ...

Heath Ledger Found Dead In NYC; Pills Found, Possible Suicide
2008-01-22 15:52:01
Breaking News: Heath Ledger found dead. Possible suicide as rescue workers found pills nearby. WABC is reporting the pills were over-the-counter sleeping pills and Ledger was found unresponsive in bed. CPR was performed by paramedics, but without success. Update: Okay, the bizarre side elements to the story are rolling in. New York Times is reporting Ledger was not in his own home but rather that of Mary-Kate Olsen. Very strange. Stories going back and forth on whether it’s really owned by Olsen or not. Update 2: The Olsen connection has been debunked, as suspected. The fire department is citing a possible suicide while the police department is declining to speculate at this point. In a recent interview Heath Ledger detailed how he was talking the sleeping drug Ambien due to his work as The Joker in The Dark Knight. He said he found the character so dark and without morale values that it was keeping him from sleeping. He noted the pills weren’t working for him ...
Scarlett Johansson & Ryan Reynolds Allegedly Engaged, Allegedly
2008-01-22 12:00:35
After less than a year of dating, Hollywood couple Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds have gone and gotten themselves engaged, allegedly of course. This would be the first engagement for Johansson and the second for Reynolds, though his first never made it to the whole final stage of marriage. He was actually engaged to Alanis Morissette which I never really understood, but hey, they’re both Canadian so that explains some of it (j/k, buddies up north). Being the true Hollywood folks that they are everyone involved is denying the engagement, though NY Daily News assures us we’ll hear about it soon: Her rep is denying it, but a very good source tells me we can soon expect an engagement announcement from actors Ryan Reynolds and Scarlett Johansson. The couple have been an item for almost a year. Reynolds ended his engagement to fellow Canadian Alanis Morissette last February, and by April he was spotted on a date with Johansson at the Odeon in Tribeca, looking very m ...

American Idol Season 7 San Diego Auditions Preview- January 22, 2008
2008-01-22 10:00:45
American Idol returns tonight with another round of auditions. This time, Randy, Paula, and Simon are in San Diego to see what kind of talent and terrors the west coast has to offer. Considering the number of crazies that showed up in Texas last week I can only imagine what we might get tonight in Southern California! I’m still trying to burn the image of the fat guy in the Princess Leia bikini from my memory (That which has been seen cannot be unseen). On the other hand I think we also have a shot at getting some significant talent as well. Philadelphia and Dallas each had more than 20 singers sent on to Hollywood. I would hope that Southern California would do at least as well. Guess we’ll have to wait until tonight to find out. Anyone wondering how many semi-pros we’ll see scattered in the auditions tonight? Considering all of those that got in last week I think we’ll have plenty more follow up stories where we’ll discover the Idol hopeful has al ...

Star Trek 11: Official Teaser Trailer Released - Watch It Now
2008-01-22 09:00:41
Check it out. The official teaser trailer, which means you won’t get any of the really good details, is out and online in non-crappy bootleg format. JJ Abrams new project won’t warp speed into theaters until Christmas 2008 (ugh, that was a terrible joke), but considering how much we know already I think we can expect one long year of rolled out rumors and more. In case you’ve missed it, here are details on initial casting, Shatner complaining about getting cut from the cast invite list (though I still don’t believe he won’t make a cameo), the guy they got for the young Kirk (who should have been left in The OC or Smallville land), and how Abrams really wanted to get Russell Crowe as the villain (but didn’t). Kiefer Sutherland Released from Jail
2008-01-21 10:00:39
Kiefer Sutherland was released from jail this morning after serving his full 48 day sentence for his second DUI conviction and for violating his probation. Here is his mugshot from when he entered the Glendale California jail on December 5, of last year, which is shocking only because he is probably the sole person in California to ever serve an entire sentence. He’s at least got to be the only celebrity who has done it. All the other prison bound celebs from Hilton on down seem to go in for a week or two vacation and then come out to even more notoriety. Sutherland appears to have done his time, done it quietly, and was released with little or no fan fare. I hate to say I respect a guy for that, but compared to the other well known celebrity inmates Sutherland seems to be more of a stand up guy. Sutherland is still facing five more years probation, an 18-month alcohol education program (most of us called that college), and attend weekly therapy sessions for six months. Too ...
Weekend Movie Box Office Earnings: January 18 - 20, 2008
2008-01-21 08:00:26
The weekend is over and just as expected, the Cloverfield monster stomped out its competition. Surprisingly though I think Cloverfield ended up bringing less than I expected. Word of mouth is going to influence its next weekend a lot so we’ll have to see if it bottoms out or maintains a decent drop. Digging into Cloverfield’s box office was Heigl’s new romantic comedy, 27 Dresses. I think I’d have rather been eaten by that monster than see that movie. I meant Cloverfield, not Heigl. The other new release this weekend was Mad Money, which Katie Holmes said she selected in lieu of Dark Knight. Sure, sure. I decided to pass on Batman as well when they offered me the role of Bruce Wayne, so I totally understand. With no playoff games going on this weekend you’ll have plenty of time to get out there and catch up. Here they are, your box office movie earnings for this weekend: January 18 - 20, 2008. If you missed any of the background on the new re ...
