Weekend Movie Preview: Trailers & Details August 24 - 26, 2007
2007-08-24 10:00:35
This is going to be one busy movie weekend as there are a total of six wide releases and nearly that many limited releases. I think you’ll be able to find something for nearly every audience except maybe the youngest of kids. You’ve got a good looking action movie with War starring Jet Li and Jason Statham. There’s a romantic comedy with Scarlett Johannson and Chris Evans (Sunshine). Mr Bean is back in a G rated silly movie that his fans should enjoy. I’m also interested in the sports drama, Resurrecting The Champ, with Samuel L. Jackson and Josh Hartnett. The last two look pretty bad to me though: September Dawn and Illegal Tender. Dawn looks poorly done and boring while Tender looks just plain dumb. If you see any of these come back and let us know what you thought. Here are all your movie details & trailers for this weekend, August 24 - 26, 2007. War Starring: Jet Li, Jason Statham, Nadine Velazquez Director: Philip G. Atwell Genre: Action / ...

Big Brother 8: Where Jen Went Wrong
2007-08-24 09:00:15
After seven weeks of “jenuine” entertainment and often not so “jenius” maneuvers Jen, the nanny from CA, was evicted by the first unanimous vote of the season, 6 to 0. Now that’s some achievement considering there were only five people voting (catch up on all the penalty vote details here). On the eviction couch with Julie Jen described herself as “random” and she had come to the BB8 house to teach people “good things”. Considering Jen is a nanny and helping to shape young minds I shudder at what she might consider to be the “good things” she teaches to those children. Clearly I’m no fan of Jen or her game play and I don’t think I was the only one, especially in the house. However, personality alone won’t usually sink a player’s game, so let’s see where else Jen went wrong this BB8 season. Upon arriving in the house Jen seemed to alienate herself from the other house guests. She ...
The Night Listener: Movie Review
2007-08-24 08:00:43
The Night Listener Starring: Robin Williams, Toni Collette, Rory Culkin Director: Patrick Stettner Genre: Drama / Mystery / Thriller Rated: Rated R for language and some disquieting sexual content. Plot: In the midst of his crumbling relationship, a radio show host begins speaking to his biggest fan, a young boy, via the telephone. But when questions about the boy’s identity come up, the host’s life is thrown into chaos. Check prices for The Night Listener on DVD My Review: The Night Listener is “inspired by true events” and interestingly these “true events” revolve around questionably true events themselves. What you get from The Night Listener is a brief (81 minutes) but very enjoyable thriller starring a reserved Robin Williams and impressive Toni Collette. There isn’t a whole lot to the story and it moves at a slow pace, but I found it to be a great alternative from a lot of the usual movies that I’ve been watching recently. The ...

We’ve got a couple of give-aways for you this morning as we head into the weekend. First up is a chance to win a Friday Night Lights Season 2 party in honor of its return to television this fall as part of the NBC TV line up. This show was nearly given the boot but saved over its critical acclaim. If you have any interest then you might want to act now as this one could go the way of the Dodo if the viewer levels don’t pick up. Here are all the details: NBC is going to be sponsoring 1,000 Friday Night Lights House Parties for the show’s top fans on September 14th, to kick off the new season before everybody else. If selected, you’ll get the ultimate party package, including a behind-the-scenes sneak peek of the opening episode of Season 2, weeks before it premieres on-air. Big Brother 8: Week 7 Eviction Recap - August 23, 2007
2007-08-23 20:45:19
It’s Eviction Night again on Big Brother 8 so we’re going to find out if it will be Jameka or Jen going home. I’ve already made my eviction prediction on who I think we’ll see sitting on Chen’s couch and I think it has everything to do with her hissy fit earlier in the week, which they’re sure to cover tonight. Sure enough, following a few angry words from Dick towards Jen we see the heated events take place. However, please note that Big Brother has selected only a portion of the events to show on the broadcast, leaving out several elements of the story. You should check back on my previous discussion of Jen’s situation to learn all of what happened. Here’s what they show us though. Jen bags up most of her belongings in advance of her devious adventure as she knows she’ll definitely earn Dick’s wrath for this one. Next, Jen starts cooking up some turkey burgers despite being on a Slop-Only diet. Jameka pleads with ...
Colbert and Richard Branson Fight On The Colbert Report - Video
2007-08-23 13:51:33
If you’ve been on our site over the past 24 hours then you’re likely to have seen the Google Video ads of Stephen Colbert promoting the on air fight he had with Sir Richard Branson. I was curious to see how it turned out and luckily I got a video clip of it (see below). I’m not sure how planned this was, but Colbert definitely keeps his composure and even retaliates. Coming Soon: Balls of Fury - Trailer & Details
2007-08-23 12:00:44
Balls of Fury reminds of a mix between Enter the Dragon and Mortal Kombat along with some Dodgeball style humor. This is definitely going to be an over the top silly sports comedy. Usually those aren’t my favorite comedies but the mix of cast looks pretty decent and the trailer (see below) definitely had me laughing. I’m glad they got Thomas Lennon (The State and Reno 911) on board as I always enjoy his comedy style. You’ve also got David Koechner (Anchorman) and Diedrich Bader (Office Space) who are usually pretty good in the supporting roles. I’m most pleased about Christopher Walken though as I think he’s hilarious because of how serious he comes across (more cowbell anyone?). This will be out next week ahead of the Labor Day weekend, so just hold tight considering the week movie options we’ll have over the weekend. Big Brother 8: Week 7 Eviction Prediction Preview - August 23, 2007
2007-08-23 10:00:24
Update: Check out our recap of tonight’s eviction episode. Eviction time has arrived in the Big Brother 8 house and this week is just chock full o’ drama. Mmm mmm, tastes good! So if you read my post yesterday on all the crazy drama with Jen then you’re already caught up. Well done. If you haven’t and you don’t mind some spoilers then get to it! All that activity has definitely influenced the house in several directions, but it looks like the storm has settled and the paths are set. For those who prefer the broadcast reveals over the live feeds then we’ll keep the rest of this discussion clean and clear for you. This week kept us busy as we first saw Daniele retake control as HoH by beating out Amber. Now don’t worry Amber fans, she knew the right answer there but she chose to pick the wrong answer because she liked that number better. Seriously. With Daniele at the helm we saw some easy nominations come down to be Amber and Jameka ...
Enter The Remake: Bruce Lee’s Classic ‘Dragon’ Returning
2007-08-23 09:00:15
Get ready for another remake of a movie that doesn’t really need a remake (The Invasion). This time it will be Bruce Lee’s 1973 classic “Enter The Dragon“. Kurt Sutter, producer of “The Shield”, will write and direct this martial arts remake set to be titled, “Awaken the Dragon”. Warner Bros. released a statement through their publicist: The movie will tell the story of an FBI agent who investigates a Shaolin monk and underground kung fu fight clubs. That runs pretty close to the original story which posed Lee as a martial arts fighter who agrees to investigate a rogue leader operating a possible drug and slavery ring. This sounds like you could still be a little more creative and make your own storyline instead of standing on Bruce Lee’s shoulders to make a movie. Before I write this one off I’d like to hear who is brave enough to try and fill Lee’s shoes as that won’t be easy. Source: Associated Press -- ...
Miami Vice: Movie Review
2007-08-23 08:00:17
Miami Vice Starring: Colin, Farrell, Jamie Foxx, Li Gong Director: Michael Mann Genre: Action / Crime / Drama / Thriller Rated: Rated R for strong violence, language and some sexual content. Duration: 2hr 15mins Plot: When an informer, his family and two FBI agents are killed by an international gang of drug dealers, Detectives James ‘Sonny’ Crockett and Ricardo ‘Rico’ Tubbs are assigned to work undercover for the FBI in a joint operation to disclose which agency leaked the information to the criminals. They plot a scheme to approach with their team of agents to the manager José Yero and later to the druglord Arcángel de Jesús Montoya. Along the mission, Sonny meets the accountant, investor and mistress of Montoya, Isabella, and after a romantic affair, they fall in love for each other, blurring his professional commitment with his personal feelings. My Review: Cops & Robbers movies simply don’t get any better for me than the work of Michael Mann. ...
Britney Spears Heading To England To Hide?
2007-08-23 07:11:48
Looks like America may be making a trade with England after getting Posh Spice dumped on us. The latest rumor has it that Britney is looking to escape the stress Michael Jackson style. No, not a warm cocoa butter massage from a boy, but rather Spears is looking at heading to London to flee the the custody battle and her crumbling sanity. The Daily Mail reports: A friend said: “She thinks her only hope is to move to London for a fresh start. “She is so scared about losing her boys that her mind is racing trying to think of how to keep them. “Britney thinks she can arrive in London and blend in with the locals. But she doesn’t have a clue how to write a cheque.” See, this is exactly why I hate going to Europe. As soon as I’m over there I get in some tough situation where I have to write a “cheque” and the whole trip just falls apart. Everyone just stands there pointing and laughing over my “cheque” problems. Oh the ...

Fracture: Movie Review
2007-08-22 12:00:59
Fracture Director: Gregory Hoblit Starring: Anthony Hopkins, Ryan Gosling, David Strathairn Rated: R for language and some violent content Duration: 1 hr. 52 mins Plot: Assistant district attorney Willy Beachum (Gosling) matches wits with the man (Hopkins) who tried to kill his wife and evaded sentencing via a series of technicalities. Check Prices for Fracture on DVD My Review: Fracture is one of those court room drama movies where it’s a battle of wits rather than evidence and personally, I’d never want to go up against the guy who played Hannibal in that sort of game. Ryan Gosling plays the hot shot young prosecutor with a 97% conviction rating and with a success rate like that stated early on you just know he’s about to be thrown a curve ball. Enter Hopkins who masterfully plays his role as the admitted attempted murderer of his run around wife. A seemingly open and shut case quickly becomes a dangerous pursuit and Gosling’s case crumbles around him as ...
Big Brother 8: Jen’s Penalty Nom, Jenius or Jenuinely Stupid?
2007-08-22 10:00:23
Spoiler Warning: If you don’t want to jump ahead of the broadcast shows then stop right here and read something else from our Big Brother 8 coverage. Otherwise, proceed to see what craziness is going on in the house right now. It’s Kuh-Razy! Jen, our nanny from California, has made questionable game play decisions throughout the first half of the season. However, I think it’d be fair to say that we can throw all of that out the window, because what she did this week just might take the Stupid Trophy, either that or it was a very clever move. Following the semi-surprising Power of Veto ceremony where we saw Daniele remove Amber and replace her with Jen things started to get a little shakey with said replacement nominee. These events are likely to redirect the current flow of the house and will make for a very interesting Thursday Eviction. So what’s a replacement nominee to do when she realizes she’s headed down a path to certain eviction? Why throw ...
The Dark Knight: A Closer Look At Heath Ledger As The Joker
2007-08-22 09:00:15
More teasers keep rolling out for the next Batman movie, The Dark Knight. While we’ve had an initial glimpse of Heath Ledger as The Joker before the pictures below give us a better idea of how he’ll appear in the movie. The second picture looks to be of Batman and The Joker having a friendly business conference. Then in the third one I’m thinking The Joker is telling Maggie Gyllenhaal that he’ll let Rachel Dawes live this time because she isn’t Katie Holmes anymore. Summer 2008 is too far away. For more The Dark Knight goodies, check out: The Dark Knight teaser trailer, Batman’s new ride and Heath Ledger as The Joker. ---Related Articles at Wild Bluff Media : Entertainment Examined:The Dark Knight Teaser TrailerThe Dark Knight: First Look at Heath Ledger as The JokerThe Dark Knight: First Look at Batman & GearEntertainment Week In Review: May 28 - June 1, 2007Sunday Brunch: Weekend Site Round-Up ...
Michael Bay Back Pedals On Blu-Ray VS. HD-DVD: T2 Back On
2007-08-22 08:16:22
In what can only be described with a shaken fist and a shout of “Dammit!” Michael Bay has quickly back pedaled on his statement from yesterday. Following the news that Paramount would no longer support the Blu-ray format Bay had declared he would no longer be back to destroy direct Transformers 2. I was quite pleased to hear this, but deep down I knew it couldn’t last. Sure enough, Bay was right back at it last night and posted on his website: Last night at dinner I was having dinner with three Blu-Ray owners, they were pissed about no Transformers Blu-Ray and I drank the kool aid hook line and sinker. So at 1:30 in the morning I posted - nothing good ever comes out of early am posts mind you - I over reacted. I heard where Paramount is coming from and the future of HD and players that will be close to the $200 mark which is the magic number. I like what I heard. As a director, I’m all about people seeing films in the best quality possible, and I saw an ...
