Pirate Master: Episode 14 - Series Finale Recap - Part 2 of 2
2007-08-28 17:09:17
This is Part 2 in the two part series covering the series finale of Pirate Master. If you haven’t had the chance you’ll want to go back and read part 1 to see what happened in the first hour of this two hour episode. Those details include an intense treasure hunt, the best sabotage point ever, and an incredibly tilted landslide vote against one of our pirates. You can find the recap of the Pirate Master Series Finale Recap - Part 1 here.
Today on Pirate Master we’ll finally discover who will be the one and only Pirate Master as this 2 hour episode is the series finale! We’re now up to the second half of the finale episode. At this point we’ve seen Ben capture Captain Steel’s first mate’s treasure, securing a spot in the final race. Then at the Pirates Court the “ghosts” returned and voted heavily against Jay with 12-1 sending Jay to the jury while Christa moved on to the last leg of the hunt.
Following the court session t ...

Pirate Master: Episode 14 - Series Finale Recap - Part 1 of 2
2007-08-28 15:40:49
Today on Pirate Master we’ll finally discover who will be the one and only Pirate Master as this 2 hour episode is the series finale! That’s right, a two hour finale and I’m gonna watch it all and then recap it for you cause I’m just that nice. Only Jay, Ben, and Christa are left in the race to find the final treasure chest from Captain Henry Steel and they’ll be competing against one another in what’s likely to be the most cut throat episode yet. I’m hoping for Jay to get the win, but I’m also willing to admit that any of these three are deserving of that prizes as they’ve all worked hard to be where they are right now. Let’s settle in for the last Pirate Master treasure hunt you’ll ever get. Let me wipe the tear from my eye.
Another rainbow has welcomed the pirates as they wake on the morning of their last race. Host Cameron greets them and informs them there will be $500,000 in the final chest. Now our fir ...

Big Brother 8: Can We Finally Say Goodbye To Amber?
2007-08-28 11:00:58
For weeks on end now I’ve had this recurring dream where Amber is evicted from the house and it’s finally our turn to cry with tears of joy. Last week I thought we really had that one in the bag but then Daniele went and sprung her little backdoor trap on Jen. Don’t ask Amber what that means though, she’s already admitted to being in the dark on that one. While we’re on the topic of what Amber doesn’t understand I think we won’t have to worry about her getting upset while we ridicule her either (that’s another Amber-Stumper word). Matter of fact, I think we could probably keep our conversation on a fifth-grade level and not worry about her chiming in. If Big Brother 8 was Friends, then Amber would be Joey just without all the funny lines but instead you could swap that out for racist commentary. Now this is when I look back and think maybe it’s time to take it easy on Amber, but heck this may be my last week to blast away, ...

South Carolina May Or May Not Have Maps; Miss Teen SC Is S-M-R-T
2007-08-28 10:00:01
In what can only be described as “thank goodness for beauty” was the bumbling, rambling mouth mush from Miss Teen South Carolina, Lauren Caitlin Upton this past weekend. When asked why she thought a fifth of American’s can’t locate the United States on a world map Upton gave a nearly poetic waxing fitting of the exact educational issues she was trying to address. But let’s not be so hard on her. When you’re busy trying to look that good it’s hard to keep straight the differences between the United States, South Africa, and Iraq. I mean, everyone knows they all accept the Euro, so what’s the big deal?
Speaking of the Euro, at least she wasn’t a Parisian growing up in South Carolina. People over there need to be careful or they could fall right off the edge of the Earth.
Update: Lauren Caitlin Upton came back on air this morning to defend her commentary. In a visit to the Today Show Upton explained her situation:

Big Brother 8: Week 8 Power of Veto Preview - August 28, 2007
2007-08-28 09:00:05
Spoiler Free Zone ahead: We may know what’s going on with the live feeds, but for now we’ll keep this from ruining any broadcast surprises.
Sunday night Jessica went with the obvious choices for nomination, Zach and Amber. Obviously she wasn’t going to nominate Eric. Jessica and Eric have a deal with Daniele and Dick so it would have been awkward to nominate one or both of them. Finally, Jessica had told Jameka she wasn’t going to nominate her. Well, if I do my math correctly that only leaves two house guests, Zach and Amber.
I would love to see Amber go. If I have to watch her cry one more time I’m going to start crying. Zach while he is kind of a weird dude doesn’t really bother me so much. The only real question is, did Eric and Jessica make a deal with the devil when they agreed to sign on with Dick and Daniele? If they are going to get them out before the final four this may be on of their last chances to do so. The deal kept both of them i ...

War: Movie Review
2007-08-27 10:00:16
War
Starring: Jet Li, Jason Statham, Nadine Velazquez
Director: Philip G. Atwell
Genre: Action / Thriller
Rated: Rated R for sequences of strong bloody violence, sexuality/nudity and language.
Duration: 1hr 43mins
Plot: An FBI agent (Statham) wedges himself in a conflict between a Triad boss and Yakuza chief in order to suss out the assassin (Li) who killed his partner three years ago.
My Review: War poses a couple of great action movie stars, Statham and Li, against each other and yet still manages to come out as a very mediocre action flick. That’s probably because there isn’t much action tacked on to a painfully over-thought plot. Following a pretty exciting opening sequence War goes into cruise control as it makes its way around the track being sure to hit every cliche in its path. You’ve got the gunned down cop’s partner and family, check, the bad guy that gets facial reconstructive surgery every few years, check, and the cop who is so set on revenge t ...

FOX’s Anchorwoman Cut Loose After First Silicone Enhanced Episode
2007-08-27 08:00:52
FOX’s most recently launched reality show is also its most recently canceled. “Anchorwoman” starred Lauren Jones as she attempted to become a news anchor for a local Texas TV station. Apparently good looks, lots of very revealing Internet photos, and “no journalism background”, as she billed herself on MySpace, wasn’t enough to lift this show past its very first appearance last week. With an estimated viewership of 2.7 million the show came in with roughly one third of FOX’s “So You Think You Can Dance” finale leading the network to doom Anchorwoman to an online closure. I would think landing 1/3 of the viewers that SYTYCD was pulling wouldn’t be too bad. I guess it was.
Jones background included a stint as a Bob Barker Beauty on “The Price Is Right”, a Miss New York semi-finalist, WWE Diva, oh and don’t forget, she was Homecoming Queen. Maybe she forgot to mention that last clincher which probably ...

Owen Wilson Now In Stable Condition; Possible Suicide Attempt
2007-08-27 07:13:06
Owen Wilson, star of Wedding Crashers and the upcoming Wes Anderson film The Darjeeling Limited, was rushed to St. John’s hospital in Santa Monica , Calif. on Sunday, August 26. The details of his rush to the hospital were much darker than his usual comedy, according to Star Magazine:
Sources tell the ENQUIRER and Star that he sliced his left wrists and took an indeterminate amount of pills.
He was discovered by a family member who summoned help.
Police and an ambulance responded to a 911 call from Owen’s house around noon on Sunday.
His wrist was sutured and bandaged at the hospital.
The ENQUIRER and Star broke the story of Owen’s hospitalization earlier Sunday and revealed that he was being transferred from St. John’s after being stabilized. The publications learned that he was going to be detoxed.
Well that sucks. I’m really hoping Wilson can get all the help he needs and is back to full strength soon. Not to make light of the situation, but Star Mag points o ...

Big Brother 8: Week 8 Nomination Recap - August 26, 2007
2007-08-26 21:15:22
Even though everyone’s favorite ditz, Jen, was finally evicted on Thursday night she threw one last little hand grenade into the house before she left. Just as she was stepping out the door she told Amber to make sure that Jessica knew. Knew what? you might ask. Well tonight we found out when Amber told Jessica that Eric has a serious girlfriend named Cheryl back in NYC who he is deeply in love with. Thanks Jen. People really like screwing with his game. Jessica took it in stride. Eric just called Jen a choice word or two when he found out, but he pretty much just blew it off. Eric did discuss it with Amber though. It appears that Eric’s girlfriend is one of those long standing on-again, off-again types of relationship. Eric doesn’t feel like he has deceived Jessica and has tried not to cross any lines in either direction. In the end Jessica just figures that she’ll watch out for Eric and “… if he has a relationship and he chooses to mess it u ...

Weekend Movie Box Office Earnings Round-up: August 24 - 26, 2007
2007-08-26 13:38:49
The box office movie earnings are in for this weekend and the overall numbers are pretty low. I’m thrilled to see Superbad holding on to the #1 spot with just $18M this weekend as it definitely deserves it. Bourne also managed to stay high in the chase as The Bourne Ultimatum leap frogged over Rush Hour 3 to take the #2 spot, dropping RH3 to #3. Out of the six new movies this weekend only three managed to squirm into the top 10, starting with Mr. Bean at #4 followed by War and then The Nanny Diaries. I talked myself into watching War and while the action, though limited, was fun the story was just awful. I’ll have my full review of War up tomorrow morning. I was surprised by Samuel L. Jackson and Josh Hartnett’s new sports drama, Resurrecting The Champ, as it only earned a little over $1 million this weekend. Perhaps they could have hired a marketing team as this one was a complete unknown rolling into its debut weekend.
Here they are, your box office movi ...

Big Brother 8: Week 8 Nomination Preview - August 26, 2007
2007-08-26 10:00:33
Spoiler Free Zone ahead: We may know what’s going on with the live feeds, but for now we’ll keep this from ruining any broadcast surprises.
Tonight on Big Brother 8 we’ll learn who our new HoH, Jessica, will be nominating for this week in her second reign as HoH. The ladies seem to be ruling the house this year as the HoH has been a female six of the eight weeks so far with four of those six being held by either Daniele or Jessica. Mighty impressive ladies. To be fair, Dick nearly secured his second turn as HoH on Thursday and missed it by just one round. Lucky for him though the win went to Jessica, a member of his four person alliance. This grouping has proven to be very worthwhile week after week here. I’m hoping we’ll see them stay true to their word and ride it out to the final four. Those sort of agreements seem to break down every year, but considering they have little resistance (Amber, Jameka, and Zach) I think they can probably do it ...

2007-08-25 12:00:16
Here are your entertainment news highlights from this past week: August 20 - 24, 2007
Monday: Tom Cruise is over in Germany filming his next movie, Valkyrie, where the police are only concerned with the safety of “anyone famous.”
Tuesday: Michael Bay decided he didn’t like Paramount’s “No Blu-ray” decision and declared he wouldn’t do Transformers 2 as a result. He recanted a day later with his tail between his legs.
Wednesday: BioShock was released for the XBOX 360 and PC. This definitely looks like it’s going to be a really cool, dark game.
Thursday: Britney Spears just might be moving over to England to hide from her grubby hubby and court decisions over her kids.
Friday: Six new movies came rolling into theaters today. Not that any of them are knock outs, but it should at least keep us busy all weekend.
