2007-09-01 10:00:36
What’s a young guy got to do with his time that’s better than singing Baby Got Back renditions over the PA system as Wal-Mart? Apparently not much.

Big Brother 8: Where Amber Went Wrong
2007-08-31 11:00:13
First off, thank you to Big Brother for a second satisfying eviction this week with the departure of Amber. Week after week of listening to her idiotic ramblings and declarations of the need for “good people” to win this game I didn’t think I could deal with her much longer. Lucky for me, and you if you’re one of the 78% that voted to evict her, Amber did plenty to help move along her own eviction.
Amber’s first mistake in this game was her lack of participation in actually playing the Big Brother game. She finally realized last week that she hadn’t been trying very hard and that she needed to step up her game. No kidding. Amber was nearly the height of floating as she did little more than make friends to use as emotional sounding boards rather than trying to really form alliances. If she hadn’t been so buddy buddy with Dustin I doubt she would have even been part of the LNC-7. I can’t recollect Amber having won a single thing ...

Weekend Movie Preview: Trailers & Details August 31 - Sept 2, 2007
2007-08-31 10:00:04
Sorry kids, this weekend’s movies belong to the adults. Thankfully there are just three new releases unlike last weekend’s massive six movie debuts. Hopefully at least one of these will be good as all of those stunk. First up is the vigilante justice movie with Kevin Bacon and John Goodman, “Death Sentence.” This one is on top of my viewing list and if you don’t mind what’s likely to be a pretty violent film I’m hoping it’s going to be worth checking out. Talking about violence segues us right over to the remake of John Carpenter’s classic “Halloween” by Rob Zombie. Zombie is well known for his vicious romps through cinema and this should provide a much higher profile for his efforts over the past few movies he’s put out. I think I’ll wait for this one to be out on DVD around Halloween as I just can’t bring myself to watch Halloween in August. Lastly you’ve got a silly comedy with &ld ...

Dancing With The Stars: A Hit Parade of Dance!
2007-08-31 09:00:38
Woohoo! The new season of Dancing with the Stars is set to begin on Monday September 24th at 8/7c. Yesterday ABC announced the couples who would be dancing this season. For the first time there will be twelve couples. Season 5 will begin with a three night event with the women dancing on the first night, the men on the second, and the first elimination (not to mention a performance by Dolly Parton) on the third. In case you missed it here are the couples for this season:
Melanie Brown and Maksim Chmerkovsky (4th Season):
Melanie Brown, also known as Mel B or Scary Spice from the spice girls has most recently been in the news for accusing Eddie Murphy of being the father of her child.
Sabrina Bryan and Mark Ballas (1st Season):
Sabrina Bryan will be familiar to any of you with pre-teen kids as on of the Disney Channel’s all-girl singing group the Cheetah Girls.
Helio Castroneves and Julianne Hough (2nd Season):
Helio Castroneves is a Brazilian race car driver who has won the ...

Owen Wilson Drops Out of Stiller’s Comedy “Tropic Thunder”
2007-08-31 08:00:05
Following Owen Wilson’s alleged suicide attempt earlier this week the hospitalized movie star has announced plans to reduce his workload. The first change will be to withdraw from his current production, “Tropic Thunder” which began roughly six weeks ago. Owen’s role wasn’t set to come up for a few more weeks, so this shouldn’t influence the film too much though I’d think it’d be really tough to replace someone as good as him. “Tropic Thunder”, directed by Ben Stiller, is set to start Jack Black and Robert Downey Jr. in the lead roles as actors who end up in the middle of a war. Um, okay. I’ll wait to judge on this one.
In an upcoming article in People magazine Owen Wilson is described to have “a little John Belushi in him”. Wilson has been in rehab at least twice in the past ten years with stays at Promises in Malibu and Hazelden in Minnesota. I’m hoping he can get through this and come bac ...

Big Brother 8: Week 8 Eviction Recap - August 30, 2007
2007-08-30 20:11:44
Tonight’s episode is being delayed by the pre-season NFL games in certain parts of the country. I’ve included details gleaned from across the net for the eviction details. The HoH competition is an endurance race tonight and it’s running live right now. I’ll keep updating things w/ screenshots and commentary.
Update: The endurance competition has completed. Read along to see who is the new HoH this week!
It’s Eviction Night again on Big Brother 8 so we’re going to find out if it will be Zach or Amber going home. I’ve already made my eviction prediction on who I think will be heading off to sequester. Don’t forget that when/if (better be “when”!) reporters won’t be able to ask Amber about her racist comments, per CBS restrictions.
America’s Player, Eric, gets his marching orders as he’s told to make sure Amber is evicted tonight. Excellent. I really didn’t like how Amber was trying to convinc ...

Coming Soon: Lars and the Real Girl - Trailer & Details
2007-08-30 12:00:49
I can’t tell what to think of this movie. Does it want to be more of a comedy or more of a drama? I’ve enjoyed Ryan Gosling in his recent movies (Fracture) which leads me to want to give this one a try, but I’d really like to get a better feel for it. The trailer starts out pretty silly with the mannequin and then gets all serious as you see everyone trying to help Gosling through his problems and just when you start to feel for his character they jump back to a shot of the doll. See what you think.
Lars and the Real Girl - Details:
Release Date: 19 October 2007
Genre: Comedy / Drama
Starring: Ryan Gosling, Patricia Clarkson, Emily Mortimer
Director: Craig Gillespie
Rating: Rated PG-13 for some sex-related content.
Lars and the Real Girl - Plot:
Ryan Gosling stars as a young man who befriends a female doll found through the Internet. When his delusions get out of control, his loved ones step in to give the dreamer a dose of reality.

Big Brother 8: CBS To Prohibit Reporters On Amber’s Racism
2007-08-30 10:00:42
This week, just like every week, reporters will have access to the Big Brother 8 contestant voted off the show. As I discussed yesterday I’m fully expecting it to be Amber instead of Zach and when that happens the usual freedom of reporters will be restricted by CBS. A spokeswoman for Big Brother 8 has stated that reporters will be prohibited from asking questions to either Amber or Jameka about racist commentary made by Amber a little over three weeks ago. While these comments weren’t broadcast by CBS they were captured here on our site as well as on video (you can watch it all here). Considering my extreme dislike for this particular player I think an inquiry to the racist views of her and her family would certainly be near the top of my list.
So what’s the motivation behind Big Brother’s, well, big brotherish tactics? The Associated Press reports that Big Brother 8’s executive producer, Allison Grodner, declined to be interviewed, but the show ...

Big Brother 8: Week 8 Eviction Preview - August 30, 2007
2007-08-30 09:00:35
Update: Check out our BB8 Eviction recap to see who went home tonight.
Since Eric decided not to use the Power of Veto on Tuesday Night, Zach and Amber are still up on the block. Actually I’m more interested to see who wins HoH and where Eric and Jessica’s relationship goes than I am in who got voted off. I’ll be shocked if Amber isn’t enjoying the high life in the sequester house later tonight. If Dick or Daniele win HoH Jessica and Eric are in big trouble. Eric was reluctant to back door them when he had the opportunity because they had a deal. I don’t think the Donato’s will be as squeemish about going back on their word as Eric was.
For Jessica and Eric’s sake I hope Eric wins HoH. These two have also pissed of Zach enough that he might just be willing to put them up as well. Jameka would probably go for Dick and Daniele but, oh yeh, she still can’t compete. Not back dooring Daniele was a huge tactical blunder on Eric&rs ...

American Gladiators Returning To NBC
2007-08-30 08:00:07
American Gladiators, the daytime action show that pitted regular Joes and Janes against the likes of Laser, Turbo, and Nitro in feats of strength and endurance is returning to NBC as a midseason replacement. Wow, I guess NBC has a lot of faith in its current fall TV line-up! That’s alright, I’m ready for a return of the series that went off the air in 1996. Variety reports:
Peacock’s interest in the revival actually predates the arrival of NBC Entertainment/Universal Media Studios co-chairman Ben Silverman, who began developing the project while still in charge of Reveille. Net confirmed last month that “Gladiator” was a priority at the net (Daily Variety, July 16).
“We’ve been circling around this property for a long time now,” said Craig Plestis, exec VP of alternative programming, development and specials at NBC Entertainment. “It’s truly what’s not in the TV landscape right now. While everyone’s ziggin ...

Ang Lee’s New Movie “Lust, Caution” To Be Rated NC-17
2007-08-29 12:00:29
Ang Lee, the director of such acclaimed hits “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” and “Brokeback Mountain” has another sexually stirring movie heading towards theaters with “Lust, Caution.” “Lust” tells the story of a young Chinese girl during WWII who becomes a pawn in the plot to seduce and kill an enemy in a Japanese controlled Shanghai. I didn’t see the words “gay cowboy” there, so what’s the big fuss?
The Motion Picture Assn. of America’s ratings board cited the film’s graphic sexuality for its decision. A source said too many of the film’s sex scenes violated the ratings board’s unwritten rules (like the number of allowable pelvic thrusts, for example) to make an appeal possible.
Sources who have seen the film said it contains at least three scenes — one a long montage — featuring multiple acts of aggressive sexual activity in different positions. There’s no full- ...

Big Brother 8: Amber or Zach, Which Will Go?
2007-08-29 10:00:54
It’s week 8 of Big Brother which puts us at the half way point for house guests remaining with 7 of the original 14 left. That’s about to change tomorrow though as either Amber or Zach will be heading to sequester. Surprisingly there will only be less than three weeks left in the show, so things are really going to pick up speed here. Before all that can happen though we’ll need to take care of the matter at hand this week, the inevitable eviction of either Amber or Zach.
There are only four votes this week which means a tie is possible and would force Jessica to get a little blood on her hands. Just four votes isn’t very much to work with either considering just a few weeks ago four votes wasn’t even enough to keep you around. The four players voting this week are: Daniele, Dick, Eric, and Jameka. Considering the JEDD (Jessica, Eric, Dick, and Daniele) alliance is holding on to three of those four votes I think this eviction will be decided ent ...

Get Ready for More South Park; Series Extended 3 Years
2007-08-29 08:00:47
Chef might be gone, but Kyle, Stan, Kenny, and Cartman aren’t anywhere close to being done with their foul-mouthed adventures. While The Daily Show and Colbert Report might be raking in the ratings these days South Park was still Comedy Central’s original cash cow . Wisely the network has decided to keep Matt Stone and Trey Parker’s 10 year old animated series around for another full 3 years with 42 episodes and the guys are pleased:
“South Park” creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker just became far wealthier under this deal. Don’t look for them to become part of the establishment. In a statement, Stone said: “Three more years of ‘South Park’ will give us the opportunity to offend that many more people. And since Trey and I are in charge of the digital side of ‘South Park,’ we can offend people on their cell phones, game consoles and computers, too. It’s all very exciting for us.”
What I like about Sou ...

Big Brother 8: Week 8 Power of Veto Recap - August 28, 2007
2007-08-28 22:45:28
Even though Amber and Zach were nominated by Jessica on Sunday night, it really isn’t a competition. You see Amber knows that she will be back next week because she has had a vision from God. So really what chance does Zach have? In the diary room Amber just cried and prayed to God. Apparently it helps to add “God Bless you God” at the end of your prayers. Jameka was surprised and not very happy that Amber had been put up (although she was thrilled that it wasn’t her). Jameka wanted to believe that Amber was not the target this week and the actual plan was to back door Daniele instead. Amber also believes she is just being used as a pawn. Yeh, well, good luck with that. Let me know how that works out for you.
Zach went to see Jessica about back dooring one of the other house guests. Jessica would like to get rid of either Dick or Daniele and I think she definitely would if it wasn’t for their deal. Zach also went to talk over with Eric the idea of ba ...
