Big Brother 8: Jameka Or Jessica; Which Will Go?
2007-09-05 10:00:10
Spoiler Discussion: Careful BB8 readers, we’ve got some discussions on what’s going on in the house that will influence the events on Thursday night. Enjoy another post from our Big Brother 8 section if you’d rather stay completely surprised come tomorrow.
The worst seems to be crashing into the worst here for Jessica. Last night we saw Daniele win the PoV, making her quite the mini-Janelle these days, and decide not to use it. With that win and subsequent decision in place it certainly solidifies any uncertainty that remained for me on whether we’d see Jameka, Jessica, or any PoV replacement heading out to sequester. The options are limited at this point and I don’t really blame any of the players for their decisions, but I will be sorry to watch on Thursday night as what I expect to happen rolls out.
There are only three votes for the first eviction on Thursday (Yeah, that’s right, I said first. Where have you been? Catch-up!) so going d ...

NBC Universal & Apple iTunes Part Ways, Joins Amazon Unbox
2007-09-05 08:00:43
If you’ve been enjoying watching episodes of The Office, 30 Rock, or Heroes on your iPod then it’s time to go ahead and let that little joy go in your life. NBC Universal has announced it won’t be renewing its contract with Apple following ongoing disagreements over pricing and piracy controls (DRM). The New York Times reports this falling out could really hit Apple in the wallet:
The media conglomerate — which is the No. 1 supplier of digital video to Apple’s online store, accounting for about 40 percent of downloads — notified Apple of its decision late yesterday, according to a person familiar with the matter who asked for anonymity because negotiations between the companies are confidential.
A spokesman for NBC Universal, part of General Electric, confirmed the decision, but otherwise declined to comment. A spokesmen for Apple declined to comment. The decision by NBC Universal highlights the escalating tension between Apple and media companies, which ...

Big Brother 8: Week 9 Power of Veto Recap - September 4, 2007
2007-09-04 21:15:09
After blowing the HoH competition Sunday night, Eric is still feeling major guilt over no getting rid of Zach like Jessica wanted too. His BB8 playmate Jessica is in some serious danger this week thanks to his decision to push Amber out the door. Granted it was an America’s Player assignment but, he could have said no. Eric actually turned into Amber there for a second as he broke down and cried while talking to Jameka about the situation. Jessica and Jameka decided that Eric had to win PoV this week. If he did then he and Jessica would be safe and Zach would then be forced to put up either Dick or Daniele. Good plan in theory, in reality Eric kinda sucks at competitions. Eric and Jessica have came to the conclusion that Eric has to win and Jameka could be allowed to win PoV. If she did, she would take herself off and then Eric would go up as well and then one of them would definitely leave the house. After saying the only thing that made her mad was that she wanted Zach to ...

Big Brother 8: Week 9 Power of Veto Preview - September 4, 2007
2007-09-04 13:00:13
Update: You can find our recap of tonight’s PoV episode here.
Spoiler Free Zone ahead: We may know what’s going on with the live feeds, but for now we’ll keep this from ruining any broadcast surprises.
Sunday night we watched the broadcast of what we already knew, Zach secured the HoH spot, but then he did something a little more surprising to me. Instead of going after Dick and Daniele and he had pressured Eric to do Zach decided to nominate Jameka and Jessica. Considering how I see Jessica to be the most likely to be voted for player by her jury peers I think this was a smart move to put her up and try for her eviction. There are just two more weeks left in the house and there isn’t time left to make friends or avoid hurting anyone’s feelings. Eric and Jessica had their chance at rocking the boat last week and they passed, dummies.
Tonight we’ll find out just how much danger Jessica is really in following the results of the Power of Veto c ...

The Lookout: Movie Review
2007-09-04 12:00:16
The Lookout
Director: Scott Frank
Starring: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Jeff Daniels, Matthew Goode
Rated: R for language, some violence and sexual content
Duration: 1 hr. 42 min
Plot: A once-promising high school athlete (Gordon-Levitt) finds his life altered following a tragic accident. As he tries to maintain a normal life, he takes a job as a janitor at a bank, where he’s targeted by a crew of locals who are looking to pull off a heist.

My Review: I wish someone had been looking out for me when I decided to rent this recent release. While RottenTomatoes is giving The Lookout an 88% approval rating I’m dumbfounded as to what earned it the same rating as the comedic genius of Superbad. The Lookout is a small budget, first time director film with several good actors that meander through a nearly two hour drag-on. I found nothing redeeming in the story as we’ve seen every single aspect done before and better. You’v ...

Big Brother 8: State of the Union - 2 Weeks To Go
2007-09-04 10:00:56
I can’t believe that there are only two weeks left in Big Brother 8 while there are still six house guests left! With such a short time remaining BB is going to jam a lot of action into its final breaths, so let’s get everyone caught up and ready so no one misses a thing. First off the current players left are: Daniele, Dick, Eric, Jameka, Jessica, and Zach. Zach is the HoH for the first time while Eric and Jameka are the only players remaining who have not won HoH even once. Currently we have Jameka and Jessica on the block and come Thursday one of them could be going home (pending the PoV tonight, of course). Thursday night is going to be really crazy as its a double eviction night. This week’s HoH competition winner will immediately nominate two players and there will be only two votes immediately cast by the other remaining players for the second eviction. Following this rushed decision a new HoH will be crowned.
Back up a step though because there&rs ...

Bill Murray Explains The Whole Golf Cart Situation
2007-09-04 09:00:07
Bill Murray finally decided to explain that crazy golf cart situation from last month in Stockholm. Police pulled him over as he rode a golf cart through the city and had him tested for drunken driving. The results of those tests haven’t been announced, but AP noted that it’s not actually illegal to drive golf carts through the city there.
The Associated Press reported:
The police “asked me to come over and they assumed that I was drunk and I explained to them that I was a golfer,” Murray told reporters Monday at the Venice Film Festival.
He was in Stockholm last month to play in a pro-am golf tournament, and hitched a ride to a post-event party in a golf cart. When no one wanted to drive home, he volunteered.
“I ended up stopping and dropping people off on the way like a bus. I had about six people in the thing and I dropped them off one at a time,” said Murray
Ahh, so you’re a golfer which explains driving a golf cart around. I can& ...

Death Sentence: Movie Review
2007-09-03 10:00:59
Death Sentence:
Starring: Kevin Bacon, Kelly Preston, John Goodman
Director: James Wan
Genre: Action / Drama
Rating: R for brutal violence and pervasive language
Plot: Nick Hume (Kevin Bacon) is a mild-mannered executive with a perfect life, until one gruesome night he witnesses something that changes him forever. Transformed by grief, Hume eventually comes to the conclusion that no length is too great when protecting his family.
My Review: I made the mistake of going into Death Sentence with high hopes and was sadly let down. Death Sentence wasn’t necessarily bad, but it just wasn’t very good either. While it did serve up exactly what it promised, a brutal story of a business man turned vigilante seeking vengeance, it didn’t do it in the most polished or skillful way. There are huge gaping holes both in the bodies of the victims and in the story, but most of these are forgivable as you’re dealing with a rough genre film as is. However, what I had a hard ...

Heath Ledger Knows How To Quit Michelle Williams
2007-09-03 08:00:24
Heath Ledger, who plays The Joker in the upcoming Batman: The Dark Knight, has split from his wife Michelle Williams after three years of marriage. According to People:
“It was rocky for awhile,” says a source close to the couple. “They did what they could to make it work.”
The source says the split was amicable.
The pair, who welcomed daughter Matilda in October 2005, met while they were filming Brokeback Mountain in 2004.
Costars say the chemistry was obvious from the start. “I remember being in rehearsal, and the two of them had googly eyes with each other,” costar Jake Gyllenhaal said of the couple. “There were sparks immediately,” added costar Anne Hathaway. “It was adorable.”
I was sorry to hear of the couple’s split, especially with a young child in the mix, but considering Williams isn’t a cowboy I’m not terribly surprised.

Big Brother 8: Week 9 Nomination Recap - September 2, 2007
2007-09-02 20:51:21
HoH Competition
In case you didn’t catch our coverage of the rest of the HoH competition, I’ll give you a quick summary of it to start. Dick, Daniele, Zach and Eric were doing there best to run up and down the slippery track trying to fill their containers with tea using little itty-bitty tiny teacups. Dick and Zach were leading almost the entire competition. When Big Brother gave the house guests the chance to fill a smaller container to win a phone call from home, Eric took the opportunity and won the phone call since by that point in the competition he already had no chance to win. When the contestants were offered two larger cups to use all four of them took the cups even though that ensured the entire house 8 days (1 day/cup) of no hot water (Ugh, that sucks). As Dick and Zach’s tea level neared the top, Dick was trying really hard. Dick was worried about Zach winning, because he had called Zach out on his game play in Dick’s usual friendly (not) man ...

Weekend Movie Box Office Earnings Round-up: Aug 31 - Sept 2, 2007
2007-09-02 13:56:18
I’ll admit that I’m surprised Halloween managed to take the number one spot at the theaters this weekend. I thought this would be a dangerous one to tackle and from the reviews I’ve heard it wasn’t great. Thankfully Superbad continues to do very well with its grand total nearing $100 million which is great for its $20M budget. Clearly word of mouth is serving it well to stay in the top 2 for 3 weeks. The other new releases did so-so with Balls of Fury picking up the #3 spot with a very modest $11.6 million. Kevin Bacon’s semi-disappointing killing spree movie Death Sentence struggled to find its footing and earned only $4.1M with the #8 spot. My review for Death Sentence will be up tomorrow. Next weekend should really pick things up with two big movies: 3:10 to Yuma and Shoot ‘Em Up, both of which I’m anxious to see.
Here they are, your box office movie earnings for this weekend: August 31 - September 2, 2007. If you missed any of t ...

Big Brother 8: Week 9 Nomination Preview - September 2, 2007
2007-09-02 09:53:11
Update: Check out our recap of tonight’s nomination episode.
Tonight on Big Brother 8 the winner of last week’s endurance competition will be revealed. If you’d rather not know who won that then stop here! Otherwise, we’ll press on. The competition lasted nearly 2 hours on the dot with a surprising winner being crowned the new HoH, Zach. That’s right, the one person that had three people working against him ended up winning the competition. How about for throwing your “odds” out the window? This should likely throw a serious monkey wrench into the gears of the JEDD alliance as one way or the other at least one of them will be nominated, if not two.
Last week we saw Zach applying a lot of pressure to PoV winner Eric to step up and use the veto to allow Dick or Daniele to be nominated. Jessica arrived at the decision that she really wanted that to happen but Eric wasn’t having anything to do with it so he could either keep his J ...

Entertainment Week In Review: August 27 - 31, 2007
2007-09-01 12:00:11
Here are your entertainment news highlights from this past week: August 27 - 31, 2007
Monday: Owen Wilson was rushed to the hospital after an alleged suicide attempt. The actor is now safe and recovering, though he isn’t admitting to anything.
Tuesday: Pirate Master, which was banished from CBS’ lineup to its online viewing only concluded with a very exciting treasure hunt finale.
Wednesday: South Park will be back for 3 more seasons giving Stone and Parker plenty more chances to offend as many people as possible Suh-weet.
Thursday: CBS quietly informed reporters they would not be allowed to question Amber on her racist views following her eviction. Sounds like an attempt at a cover up. Associated Press said thanks, but no thanks and turned down the interviews.
Friday: A new season of Dancing with the Stars is heading to the fall line up and ABC has announced the cast list. See if your favorites are on the list.
Once again, a lot happened this week. Next week try ...
