Weekend Movie Box Office Earnings Round-up: September 7 - 9, 2007
2007-09-09 13:32:20
Looks like people must have been out enjoying the beautiful weather this weekend because they sure weren’t at the theaters. The top movie out this weekend was the new release 3:10 to Yuma (read my Yuma review) earning $14.1 million to nab the #1 spot. I really enjoyed this Western though I thought the ending deserved a stronger punch than it offered up to audiences. The other new releases did increasingly worse with Shoot ‘Em Up coming in at #6 with a mere $5.4 million. I’m really surprised at that number considering how the strength of its cast. My review for Shoot ‘Em Up will be up tomorrow, but I’ll tell you now it was a fun, over the top action movie that I definitely enjoyed. The last new release, Brothers Solomon starring Will Arnett and Will Forte, came in at a terrible #23 with just a little over a half million dollars this weekend. Yikes. Ah well guys, keep trying. Here they are, your box office movie earnings for this weekend: Septem ...
Big Brother 8: Week 10 HoH and Nomination Preview - Sept 9, 2007
2007-09-09 09:00:52
Update: Check out our recap of tonight’s HoH & Nomination episode. The Big Brother Fast Forward show on Thursday night was pretty exciting. If you missed it, Jessica got voted out, Dick won HoH. He nominated Eric and Jameka. Then Zach won PoV but, in what in my opinion was a huge mistake he decided not to use it. So, Eric was sent home less than an hour after his girlfriend. As I said it was quite the action packed episode. So Evel Dick is still technically HoH, but tonight’s show will start off with a new HoH competition. There are only four houseguests left. Dick, Daniele, Zach, and Jameka (who ever thought she would have made it this far. Tonight either Zach, Daniele, or Jameka will be named HoH and they will have to nominate two of their house mates. That’s right Jameka will be playing for HoH tonight. The five weeks of HoH competitions she gave up are finally over. That probably helped keep her in the game because that made her much less of a threat th ...

Tuesday: We finally get an explanation from Bill Murray on just what was going on with his golf cart in Sweden. Weekend Humor: Everlasting Crosswalk Prank Video
2007-09-08 10:00:47
Now this is a pretty simple in concept prank done by some high schoolers who managed to keep a constant flow of crosswalkers going for nearly 5 minutes with just 90 some students. I can’t tell where the heck they were looping around but if you watch you’ll see a few distinct characters (big yellow bird) loop a few times. Simple but still funny. 3:10 To Yuma: Movie Review
2007-09-07 16:36:01
3:10 To Yuma Starring: Russell Crowe, Christian Bale, Peter Fonda Director: James Mangold Genre: Action/Adventure, Drama, Western Rated: R for violence and some language. Duration: 2hrs Plot: A rancher struggles to support his ranch and family during a long drought. Desperately needing money to build a well, he takes an assignment to transport a notorious felon, in the hands of authorities, to Yuma for imprisonment. But, once the two meet, the criminal tries to tempt him with–in exchange for allowing him to escape–an offer of much more money than the rancher ever expected. Check showtimes and tickets for 3:10 To Yuma My Review: We don’t get as many Western movies as we used to, but films like 3:10 To Yuma may reinvigorate that genre. This was a great action/adventure movie that I really enjoyed, though I’d stop short of putting it up there with Unforgiven. Much like the aforementioned, Yuma has a fantastic cast with Christian Bale, Russell Crowe, Peter Fond ...
Big Brother 8: Where Jessica & Eric Went Wrong
2007-09-07 10:43:11
Seeing how this couple, Jessica and Eric, were attached at the hip for everything including their eviction night I thought it’d be fitting to review their game play in unison. First off, last night’s double eviction went exactly as I expected with Jessica blazing the trail and Eric following her breadcrumbs right out to Julie’s couch. Eric came very, very close to snagging the HoH over Dick and Daniele which lead to quite the string of profanity flowing my couch when he screwed it up at the end. That aside, I think it’s safe to say Eric’s game was already as dead at that moment as the game of recently departed Jessica. Although I’ll be examining what went wrong in their game I think it’s worth noting that anyone that has made it this far in the game was clearly doing something right. So with that said, what happened to a couple with such potential in this game? Let’s take a look. The biggest, glaring mistake came as recently a ...

Weekend Movie Preview: Trailers & Details September 7 - 9, 2007
2007-09-07 10:00:07
Okay, last weekend was a let down on movies but this weekend should totally redeem the theaters. We’ve got three main releases consisting of two action movies and one comedy. 3:10 to Yuma starring Christian Bale and Russell Crowe is a Western remake that looks like it’ll easily take the trophy home as the top earner. This looks like a great movie and is on the top of my movie list for the weekend. The next action movie is Shoot ‘Em Up, an over the top action movie starring Clive Owen as the dark hero. Then there’s the comedy movie starring a couple of funny guys in a potential dud with The Brothers Solomon. I’ve enjoyed both Will Forte and Will Arnett in the past, but I won’t be seeing this one unless it gets raving reviews to change my mind. You’ve got a couple of decent options this weekend, as long as you like action movies. If not, hopefully the weather is nice where you are! Here are all your movie details & trailers for t ...

Britney Spears To Open MTV VMAs On Sunday
2007-09-07 08:00:45
In what is likely to cap off her faltering career Britney Spears will be opening the MTV Video Music Awards as was long rumored. If you weren’t one of the lucky ones to catch her lip-synching performances a few months ago then here’s your second chance come Sunday night. The Associated Press reports: The 25-year-old tabloid magnet will perform “Gimme More,” the first single from her upcoming album, MTV announced Thursday. Sunday’s show in Las Vegas will mark Spears’ latest — and biggest — step toward a career comeback after a period of public misbehavior, short-lived marriages, ultra-short hair-don’ts and other misadventures. Her long-awaited new album is due for release Nov. 13 on Jive Records. Huh? “Long-awaited” album? The only person that’s excited about that album releasing is ol’ K-Fed as he sits there with big “$” in his eyes. If you’re a sucker for punishment then feel free to li ...

Big Brother 8: Week 9 Eviction Recap - Sept 6, 2007
2007-09-06 20:17:42
Tonight was the big double eviction night. An entire week of Big Brother in one night. We are now down to the final four house guests! With Jameka and Jessica still on the block after Tuesday’s night’s PoV Ceremony, Dick and Daniele agreed that it was time for Jessica to go home. Dick told Jameka that they would be voting her out this week. Then they let her sweat. His plan was to wait until 10 minutes before the live show, Dick would force her to make a deal with them. Eric went to talk to Daniele without Jessica’s knowledge to find out if Jessica was going home this week. Daniele assured Eric that Jessica was safe this week. America’s Player America asked Eric to get Jameka voted out. I’m pretty sure Eric was sweating this one. He was very relieved to see Jameka’s name instead of Jessica’s since he is so close to Jessica. After the HoH competition, whoever Julie asked to lead the house guests back in to the house, will be Eric&rs ...
Coming Soon: Alien Vs. Predator 2 Requiem - Trailer & Details
2007-09-06 12:00:54
I’m an absolute nut for the Alien movies, even the ones that everyone hated (come on, David Fincher directed the third one so how bad could it be??). Not far behind was Predator and it’s less attractive, Ah-nuld-less sibling Predator 2, which were both pretty exciting alien monster action movies. So what happens when you combine the two? Glorious Alien Vs. Predator good times for all. Okay, the first one wasn’t very good, but I attribute that to the human characters involved. The whole underground temple training grounds was a cool idea and it even had a pre-Bishop Bishop back in the Alien storyline. Now that did a lot for me. Thankfully AvP is returning for a second try and this time around their not messing with a PG-13 film again but will instead have a full blown R rated carnage fest. Usually I embed the videos right here, but the only version I could get was the Red Band version, which means it’s full blown R material. You’ll have to fo ...

Big Brother 8: America’s Player; Eric’s Progress
2007-09-06 10:00:53
Eric, the 27 year old talent office assistant from New York, has been the secretive twist this season of Big Brother as he has been part of the biggest BB alliance by being teamed with us, America. While this little twist didn’t fall quite as flat as the “worst enemies” it hasn’t exactly been an earthquake through the game either. Week after week Eric has been tasked to complete the missions we decide upon and then for every five missions completed he earns $10,000, effectively $2K/task. I thought it might be proper to take a look back at these tasks as I’m sorry to say we may be nearing the end of our time with ol’ Eric. Say what you will about Eric as a person (well just not what Amber said, hopefully), but this guy has been a trooper. He’s dutifully followed every task whether its hurt his game or even the one he cares about (Jessica). At this stage Eric has just hit another milestone rounding out a set of 5 for a grand total of 20 ...

Big Brother 8: Week 9 Eviction Prediction Preview - Sept 6, 2007
2007-09-06 09:00:13
Update: Check out our recap of tonight’s double eviction episode. Tonight will decide how the rest of the BB8 season will go. After the PoV Ceremony on Tuesday night, Jameka and Jessica are still on the block. It is now up to Dick and Daniele which of these two to send home. If they honor their alliance with Eric and Jessica, Jameka will be enjoying a nice chat with Julie Chen tonight. If not, if they decide to betray their alliance, then it will be Jessica offered up to Julie as a sacrifice instead. Dick and Daniele feel like they have played an honorable game so far. Which to them means they haven’t gone back on their word. Although some of Dick’s tactics are far from honorable in my book. So this at least is how they would like to be seen by the jury. On the other hand Jessica and Eric are both much bigger threats to them than Zach and Jameka are. But if they betray Jessica you know Eric will be gunning for the two of them. Let’s not forget that tonight ...
Nicolas Cage As Magnum P.I.? Are They Kidding? Higgins!
2007-09-06 08:00:16
I’m not sure Nicolas Cage could even solve the not-so-much-a-mystery of what killed the Magnum P.I. movie if he ends up starring in it. The rumor mill is swirling with the idea that Nicolas Cage may be taking over the Magnum P.I. movie project ditched by George Clooney and Ricky Gervais (as sidekick Higgins). This kind of movie news makes me cramp up inside. It’s not that I hate Nicolas Cage as I’ve enjoyed him in several movies over the years, but I’m sick of seeing him applied in some duct-tape fashion. “Oh no, we can’t get Johnny Depp for Ghost Rider. Let’s get Nicolas Cage.” Or maybe, “oh no, we can’t get Lady Dench to reprise her role as M in Bond 22. Let’s get Nicolas Cage.” Dammit studios, cut it out! IGN is reporting the details: Reports have circulated everywhere from Star Magazine and The Daily Express to MonstersAndCritics.com that Cage is considering playing Thomas Magnum, a role originat ...
Opera Tenor Singer Luciano Pavarotti Died
2007-09-06 06:53:09
Luciano Pavarotti, likely the world’s most famous tenor, has passed away at the age of 71 from pancreatic cancer. His manager released a statement explaining the singer had died this morning at 5am, local time to his home in Modena, Italy. The statement read: The Maestro fought a long, tough battle against the pancreatic cancer which eventually took his life. In fitting with the approach that characterised his life and work, he remained positive until finally succumbing to the last stages of his illness. Pavarotti’s final performance was in February 2006 at the Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy where he performed “Nessun Dorma”. His farewell concert had been in March 2004 with his actual final full concert in December 2005. The Associated Press has a very detailed look over Pavarotti’s career and personal life if you’re interested. You can also check out his Wikipedia page, just don’t be startled by the picture of his wax figure which lo ...
Jude “Not So Above The” Law Arrested in London
2007-09-05 12:00:00
I hadn’t heard much from the Jude Law camp recently other than a strange looking movie he’s has coming out with Michael Caine. So following the cardinal law of all celebrities Law decided to take the easy way to publicity and jumped the Papz. Normally I’d completely disregard the whole “allegedly” tidbit below, but considering Law looks like he could get whipped by a Girl Scout troop I’ll hold judgment. The Associated Press reports: Police arrested Jude Law for allegedly attacking a photographer outside his London home, British media reported Wednesday. The 34-year-old actor allegedly tried to grab the photographer’s camera during the incident on Tuesday, Britain’s Press Association said. He was released on bail and must return to a London police station in October. Police would not directly confirm the report, but said a 34-year-old man from Law’s neighborhood was arrested on suspicion of causing bodily harm. Police added ...
