New Kids Old Men On The Block Planning Reunion Tour
2008-01-28 12:00:51
If there was ever a reason to own a panic room then this is the time to use it. An insider for People magazine has informed the world that members of 90’s boy band, New Kids On The Block (or, NKOTB if you want to impress your friends), are preparing to pack up their Lipitor and Viagra prescriptions to hit the road to perform again: The band’s Web site, www.nkotb.com, which had been dormant, is now back up and running in anticipation of the official announcement, which the source says will be made in the next few weeks. The site currently features a television graphic with a fuzzy, flickering photos of NKOTB in their heyday, and a link inviting fans to sign up for info. So, yeah, I’m daring. I went ahead and checked out their website and there really isn’t much going on there other than simply being up and running. And to be fair only one of the “New Kids” will be turning forty this year. The rest are in their late to mid thirties. All the same, ...
Miss America: Reality Check
2008-01-28 10:00:57
If you haven’t heard (and quite frankly I wouldn’t be surprised if you hadn’t), Miss Michigan Kirsten Haglund, was crowned Miss America 2008 over the weekend. I know I missed it. In fact, I didn’t even know it was on for me to miss. After years of declining ratings the pageant was dropped from network TV in 2004, and then spent a couple of years on CMT before TLC picked it up last year. In an effort to reinvigorate the Miss America Pageant, TLC has decided to try an make the pageant “hipper” to appeal to a younger audience. TLC added a four-week reality show about the girls preparing for the pageant. While I think this is a great idea, most of the changes were in fact pretty lame unless by younger they mean people in their 40’s instead of people in their 60’s. Here are some of lamer the changes that were made this year: - A DJ played dance music on stage - Adding some humor to the opening number - Clinton Kelly of TLC’s What No ...

Miss America Kirsten Haglund: Photo Gallery
2008-01-28 09:59:09
Miss Michigan Kirsten Haglund was crowned Miss America 2008 over the weekend at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas over the weekend. This years pageant, which was televised on TLC, was supposed to be hipper and sassier than in years past. Here are some of photos of our latest Miss America so you can judge for yourself. Let us know if you agree. Personally, I’m not convinced. You can also read my full comments on the 2008 Miss America Pageant as well if you’re interested. My guess is that probably you’re just going to look at the pictures though :). Weekend Movie Box Office Earnings: January 25 - 27, 2008
2008-01-28 08:00:35
All I can say is, “what the hell?” when a huge piece of crap like “Meet the Spartans” manages to take the top prize over the weekend. If you went to see that movie then I’m pointing my finger at you right now. Are you trying to encourage Hollywood to put out more worthless crap like that? “Spartans” earned just one positive critique at Rotten Tomatoes for a freshness rating of 5%. Meanwhile movies like “Juno” and “There Will Be Blood” struggle to find audiences’ attention. Hell, even “Rambo” looked ten times better than yet another installment of the “Epic Movie” club. I’ve stepped back down from my soap box and am ready to proceed. An interesting drop off was with “Cloverfield” this weekend after winning last weekend with over $40 million. The monster movie pulled in just $12.7 million for 4th place. That’s a drop of nearly 70%. Last weekend I posed the ...
Entertainment Week In Review: January 21 - 25, 2008
2008-01-26 11:00:49
Here are your entertainment news highlights from this past week: January 21 - 25, 2008 Monday: Kiefer Sutherland was released from jail after fulfilling his entire 48 day sentence. Can you believe it? A celeb in California actually spent more than 5 minutes in the slammer. Tuesday: Tragically, Heath Ledger was found dead in a NYC apartment. Details now point more to an accidental OD of sleeping pills rather than a suicide. Wednesday: American Idol is teaming up with Ford again this season, but this time the goal seems to be to ruin the secret of who the finalists are. A photographer captured all those involved filming the new commercial. Thursday: James Bond 22 got a title that’s a bit out there, “Quantum of Solace.” Yeah, sounds to me like it should have a soundtrack fit for a Gap commercial. Friday: Sylvester Stallone breathed life back into another one of his original characters with the return of “Rambo” this weekend. Once again, a lot happe ...

E!’s Kristin Dos Santos talks with Terminator’s Summer Glau
2008-01-25 10:00:39
E!’s Kristin Dos Santos reported that Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles received 18 million viewers for its premiere episode and that 70% of those liked it while on ~8% didn’t. That’s awesome. Especially since this is my new favorite show. Hopefully that will ensure that it has some legs and hangs around for a few seasons. Based on an E! poll it also turns out that teenage terminator Cameron Phillips played by Summer Glau is the fans’ favorite character. Kristin was able to get a short interview with Summer Glau (lucky!) which included Glau’s take on naked cyborg poster of her. Looking for pictures of Summer Glau? 74% Geek and Counting
2008-01-25 08:00:15
74% Geek It’s Friday and if you’re checking out this post you are obviously bored and looking to kill some time on the net. So here is a little time waster for you. Ever wonder just how geeky you really are? Take the Geek Quiz find out. It turned out that I was 74% geek. However many of the trivia questions I knew the answer to simply because I had a geeky childhood. In my modern incarnation I am far less geeky than I once was although there is still some elements of my life which are still somewhat geeky (lol). It was fun and killed a couple of minutes. Coming Soon: Harold & Kumar Escape Guantanamo - Trailer & Details
2008-01-24 12:00:37
I always enjoy a good comedy, even when it’s a touch on the cheesy side and I think it’s safe to say the first Harold & Kumar was definitely cheesy. So when I heard they were making a sequel to H & K I was intrigued and then even happier to watch the trailer and find that looked even better than the first. I think this time around the studio is willing to put some more money into the budget for writing and casting. Speaking of casting, what would a Harold & Kumar movie be without Neil Patrick Harris? So yeah, he’s coming back along with his ironically womanizing ways. I’m also looking forward to the cast addition of Rob Corddry as the special agent fast on these fun lovers’ tracks. Maybe the studio will bump up the release date to get out there before April 20th. Bioshock: Big Daddy’s in the Kitchen
2008-01-24 10:00:23
After I finished Call of Duty 4 over Christmas I turned my gaming attention to Bioshock. If you haven’t played this game you should. It was the 2007 game of the year and after spending some time with it I can tell you it deserved it. Its well worth your time and money. This video though is for folks who are already fans of the game. Its a little old but, I just came across it on YouTube the other day. This guy and his daughter dressed up as a Big Daddy and Little Sister for Halloween. those little girls are creepy enough in the game, creeping around sucking the blood out of corpses, but in real life they’re down right frightening. Enjoy. Here is the XBox 360 trailer for Bioshock: Check out the rest of our Video Game coverage. James Bond 22 Gets A Title: “Quantum of Solace”; Huh?
2008-01-24 08:22:52
Do what? The next installment in the James Bond franchise, previously referred to as “Bond 22″, has finally been given a name. It’s not just any name either. Bond 22, which just began filming a few weeks ago, has been titled “Quantum of Solace”, apparently in reference to the new story’s plot as we’ll follow James in his hunt for revenge over the death of his woman, Vesper Lynd, back in Casino Royale. While everyone is foaming at the mouth over the Daniel Craig as the new James Bond I’m most worried about the new director this time around, Marc Forester. Forester has never directed an action movie which concerns me that we’ll get more of an emotional story than one of car chases, explosions, and gun fights. Clearly the title sounds more like the former than the latter. So is it just me? What do you think? Either way you’ll have Daniel Craig around for another three Bond movies following “Solace”, so settle ...
NBC Brings Back Auctions - The Office, Heroes, 30 Rock, & More
2008-01-24 08:00:54
Now this is pretty awesome. Late last year NBC launched a series of online auctions from their top TV shows and now they’re bringing them back. Just like last time you can get some very cool and completely unique collectibles including things like paintings and “9th Wonders” comics from Heroes. While those might bring some of the biggest bids I think the items like Dwight Schrute’s Bobblehead autographed by Rainn Wilson and the Jenna’s “Me Want Food” T-shirt from 30 Rock are the coolest items on there. In case you’re not as much of a fan of Heroes, The Office, or 30 Rock (what? are you crazy?) there are items from Friday Night Lights and Las Vegas. Either way you better get bidding as the auctions began on Monday and the Heroes paintings are already up past $500 and I’d expect them to rise into the thousands. The Oscars, Who Cares?
2008-01-24 07:00:52
Like most people, I get most of my news online now days. I usually read cnn.com every morning. When I was checking out the entertainment section the CNN poll of the day was The Oscars: Do you care if they are canceled? With the writers strike still going on a number of other awards programs have been canceled and the Oscars are on the list of shows which may join them. As usual I answered the poll. I answered honestly and said no. What shocked me was that 82% of people who answered the poll agreed with me! 82% of people just don’t care if there is an Oscar ceremony or not. I found this incredibly surprising especially considering the rating the Oscars usually garners. Perhaps its time for the television industry to do what most other industries do and keep their award ceremonies to themselves. In the end the point is for the industry to honor its own and I agree that they should do so but, maybe the rest of us just don’t care. The writer’s strike has the chance to re ...
The Moment of Truth on FOX Review
2008-01-23 21:34:23
Following tonight’s American Idol auditions, I watched FOX’s new game show Moment of Truth hosted by Mark Wahlberg, while I wrote up my American Idol recap. TV Week quoted Mike Darnell, FOX’s president of alternative entertainment, as saying, “This is going to be the talk of the town and knocked out of the park. You’re either going to love it, or think it’s the end of Western civilization. And that’s the stuff that works.” He’s right about one thing you either love this show or hate. My wife loved. I hated it. So here is how the show works, a contestant is given a lie detector test and asked 50 questions before the show. The truth of the contestant’s answers are determined by a certified polygraph examiner, but the contestant is not told the results. Then, when the contestant appears on the show, he is asked 21 of these questions in front of a live audience. Just to make it interesting, the contestant also has three friends or family members with ...
American Idol: Ford Commercial Ruins 16 Idol Finalists’ Secret
2008-01-23 20:47:35
While we already heard the list of American Idol 2008’s Top 50 Finalist spoilers, but this next spoiler really breaks it down another step and you can thank Ford. Every week in last year’s American Idol weekly eliminations we were treated to a poorly disguised non-commercial commercial for Ford Motors. Looks like those plans haven’t changed one bit and they’re even moving them up earlier this year according to the Pasadena Star: A cloak of secrecy hung over the filming of an “American Idol” segment on the rainy steps of City Hall early Tuesday morning. About 16 of the talent-show contestants - no one from Fox television would say exactly how many - were filmed emerging from their cars and going up City Hall’s steps. No one would say why. Ariel Penn, who heads the city’s film office, said she believed the Fox show might have used City Hall as a substitute for the Civic Auditorium. Normally, Penn said, the finalists audition in the ...
