DWTS Update: Laila Ali to Host American Gladiators
2007-12-19 12:00:13
It seems Laila Ali is the latest celebrity to segue her Dancing With The Stars fame into something more. NBC has decided to bring back American Gladiators with Ali as one of the hosts. You probably need to be at least 30 to have any real recollection of this show. NBC produced it in the 80’s. Imagine a everyday people battling a team of body builders in some training competitions and you have the show. People mostly watched it to see the contestants get pummeled. Even in the 80’s its fame was short lived while it was in prime time. Mostly it had a cult following of folks watching it super late on Saturday nights. t is the game show equivalent to professional wrestling. Speaking of Professional wrestling, the other host of the show is another 80’s left over, professional wrestling legend Hulk Hogan. While I’m very happy for Laila Ali because she is gaining a little more lime light. I’m really not sure that this is the best venue for her. Put aside th ...
American Idol: Simon Cowell Gets In Shape, Ditches ‘Man Boobs’
2007-12-19 10:00:58
It looks like nothing may remain hidden this season 7 of American Idol in 2008. Earlier this week we told you how the Top 50 singers had been allegedly spoiled by some sneaky MySpace investigations and now we’re back with another shocker! Simon Cowell’s audition round play things (um, that’s nice for his man boobs, watch the video below) seem to have vanished in the off season. UK’s Daily Mail took a break from their tea and crumpets (or is it biscuits?) and disturbingly tracked down some beach photos showing an impressive transformation: © 2007 Daily Mail But Cowell’s improvements haven’t just been a result of hard work and sweat: “I am vain but I cannot think of one person on TV who is not. It is the nature of the beast. “I have had Botox but not in an obsessive way. I just like to take care of myself. I am eating a lot better and have cut out the chocolate biscuits and crisps. “I work out, take lots of vitamins and thi ...

Crowned: Episode 2 “Momma Needs A New Swimsuit” Preview
2007-12-19 08:00:49
Crowned: The Mother of All Pageants returns for its second installment tonight on The CW. Last week the new reality series surprised me after having seen all but the final moments of its first “desashing”. I was fully confident we’d seen the last of the “Blonde Bombshells” after their sad “first impression” but instead we said goodbye to the similarly over confident “Reigning A’s”. Well thank goodness we didn’t lose “Silent But Deadly” in the process or I’d just have to give up now. Instead, tonight the series will press on as ten teams are left and the inevitable swimsuit competition is upon us: Ten teams remain and begin to form clicks [sic] and alliances in the house. Following beauty pageant tradition, the teams must compete in a swimsuit competition, and the daughters are forced to select swimsuits for themselves and their mothers. The teams also create a one-minute fitness routine for the ...
Britney’s Little Sister Jamie Lynn Spears Is Pregnant At 16
2007-12-18 19:48:10
OK Magazine is breaking the story that 16 year old Jamie Lynn Spears, little sister of Britney Trainwreck Spears, has confirmed her pregnancy. I’d love to say this is just too shocking to believe, but hey, she’s a Spears so if the news read she had robbed a bank and got away on an elephant I’d just shrug. This issue of OK, which hits stands Wednesday, has the official interview with both Jamie Lynn and her mother and includes who is the father and what she intends to do with the baby: She [Jamie Lynn] tells the mag that the father is Casey Aldridge, who she has been dating for some time and first met at church. Brit’s younger sister says she’s keeping the baby. Sources tell us that she has not yet told her older sister. Well thank goodness she met him at church, otherwise he could be one of those real hellions and get her into some real trouble! Jamie Lynn is also the star of Nickelodeon’s kid comedy “Zoey 101″. Apparently not inc ...
Big Brother 9: A First Glimpse Of The New “Dirty” Theme?
2007-12-18 12:00:31
Yesterday CBS put up their first new ad for the upcoming winter edition of Big Brother 9 which starts February 12th. The commercial, which you can watch below, consisted of a remix of clips from season 8 and the music video for “Dirty Little Secret” from The All-American Rejects. This is definitely the hippest commercial I’ve ever seen CBS try and put together for the series which raises my next question. Will CBS continue to focus on the younger audience for this season as they did with most of the cast last year? Considering a 40+ yr old won the whole game last time I thought they might be inclined to bring in a few more older folks like Dick rather than stack the deck with 20 year olds. I’ll admit I’m drawing a lot of conclusions from the first glance at the new season, so I could be way off here. Since I’m making wild assumptions here let’s consider the possibility that we’re catching our first glimpse at the new theme for B ...
New Game Show “Duel” on ABC: Drop It Like Aaron Burr
2007-12-18 10:00:35
Last night I caught ABC’s new game show, Duel. I wish I hadn’t. ABC tried to follow the standard 21st century game show format made popular in the US by Who Wants to be a Millionaire. Unfortunately they failed. The game’s rules are too complicated. I couldn’t just sit down ten minutes into the show and quickly figure out what was going on. 24 contestants in a five-night event is too many. The Duel is also overly dramatic. All of these game shows try to build the tension by cutting to commercial or just drawing out the time before the answer. The Duel really over did it though. The best part of the show was when Denise, one of the contestants, finally broke down and told them to just get on with it already. I had to agree. Duel has the hip darkened set it just didn’t seem laid out very well. They even threw in some models like Deal or No Deal as ‘chip girls’. Mike Greenberg is the host. Greenberg is co-host of ESPN’s “Mike and M ...

American Idol: Has The 2008 Season’s Top 50 Been Spoiled?
2007-12-17 12:00:56
American Idol season 7 for 2008 hasn’t even begun and already there’s talk of spoilers. Each year we get weeks and weeks of hilarious auditions full of folks of like Sanjaya, but thankfully most of them don’t make it as far as he did. So after all the weeks of auditions have completed we see the top few dozen of singers move on to Hollywood. Personally, the whole process of whittling our way down to those heading to Hollywood is just fluff, and while it’s entertaining it’s not terribly important for the season. Considering all that it’s not too monumental to find out that the Top 50 singers of the upcoming season may have already been spoiled by a very thorough investigator, according to MTV News: In posts on IdolForums.com, “JoesPlace” has listed the names, ages, home cities and MySpace pages of contestants fortunate enough to actually make it to Hollywood, where judges Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson will whittle th ...

Alvin and the Chipmunks: Movie Review
2007-12-17 10:00:17
Directors: Tim Hill Starring: Jason Lee, David Cross, Cameron Richardson, Justin Long, Jesse McCartney Genre: Comedy, Family, Holiday Rated: Rated PG for some mild rude humor Plot: Based on the 1958 music of Ross Bagdasarian and the 1980’s cartoons of the same name, Alvin and the Chipmunks is the story of a down on his luck song rider named Dave Seville, played by Jason Lee, who encounters a trio of singing chipmunks who turn his career and his life around just in time for Christmas. My Review: I was a huge fan of the Chipmunks when I was growing up. I had all of their records (yes, thats right actual vinyl). I missed out on watching the Chipmunk cartoons that were on in the 80’s but my younger sister watched them. So I was looking forward to introducing my own kids to Alvin, Simon, and Theodore this Christmas. I didn’t have very high expectations for this film and those low expectations were in this case met in full. Jason Lee, of My Name is Earl fame, plays ...

2007-12-17 08:00:35
It looks like the masses took to the theaters over the malls this weekend as Will Smith’s “I am Legend” took in a December record setting $76.5 million dollars! Not bad for the last man on Earth, eh? While I applaud audiences’ decision to see this I’m stunned by the second place earnings of $45 million for “Alvin & the Chipmunks.” E-gad. Even for kids this looked like a terrible mess. Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader: Book Review
2007-12-14 12:00:57
A while back as I was doing some research for my post on American Idol contestant Kellie Pickler’s appearance on FOX’s game show Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader I came across the Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader book by Michael Benson. Since my family and I are such big fans of the show, I decided to check it out. To be honest I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect. The cover says ‘The Play-At-Home-Companion Book to the Hit TV Show’ so I thought maybe it would include sections on different subjects explaining the answers on the show. It turns out that the book is actually a version of the show itself. The book includes 75 quizzes each of which has the same set of questions a contestant might encounter on the show. If you have never seen the show there are two questions from each grade level 1 - 5 in different subjects and then the $1,000,000 question which is another fifth grade question. For example: 1st Grade Geography, Florida borders Georgia and ...

The Dark Knight Bootleg Trailer, Watch It Now!
2007-12-14 08:28:42
The first bootleg trailer for The Dark Knight (you can watch the teaser trailer here as well) just went up last night at midnight when I Am Legend premiered around the country. So like any good fan, someone threw caution to the wind and recorded it for our viewing pleasure. The quality isn’t perfect, but damn this looks good! I think Heath Ledger is really going to pull of The Joker well after all. Phew! Update: New version up, the last one was pulled from YouTube.
