The LA Metro Train
2008-02-07 02:52:51
Today I embarked on a journey that will go down in the books as one of my more unique "LA" experiences.  I had been so lucky as to be given a J-walking ticket as I crossed Sunset Blvd on a crosswalk while the countdown was still going for me to cross the street.  I happened to be on cell phone as I scurried across the street.  Once i was safely across, a cop car pulls next to me and flashes its lights as the cop yells from inside for me to stay put.  Long story short, he was annoyed I was on my cell phone while crossing and said I had entered the crosswalk after the little white walking guy had changed to the blinking countdown. Yes yes, give me a %$*#ing break. But the point of this blog is not to discuss some disgruntled LA police officer.  This is a story of my first time on the LA Metro Train.  I had always noticed the entrance to it at the Hollywood/Highland plaza, but still i somehow blocked it out of my mind that it existed.  Today was ...
Hollywood Prom King - My 2nd Chance
2008-01-09 20:09:44
Yes 'tis true...I now have a chance to relive my high school dream and be prom king.  Hollywood Style... There are some distinct differences with this prom compared to my high school prom: I can actually be completely wasted and not have to worry about not graduating if I'm caughtI don't have the pressure of losing my virginity My curfew is no longer midnightWhen we all go skinny dipping in the pool afterwards at the hotel, our dates will most likely be great floating devices depending on the amount of CC's each has in her boobs My suit will most likely be from a year before I was bornMr. Belding is the principalThe president of my senior class is Brad HossThere will be more people at this party then were in my entering high schoolThere will be girls at this party that were still in elementary school when I went to my high school senior promThere will be guys at this party where I wasn't born when they were at their senior promInstead of there being a cheesy cover band...the ...

New Years Eve 2008 Hollywood - The RenMar Studios
2008-01-02 19:00:42
Every New Years I do the same thing...wait until the last minute to decide on my plans.  And every year it pays off.  This year was no different.  Though I was toying with the notion of getting a table at Les Deux since the beginning of the month.  I kept holding out, this shadow of doubt clouding over my mind, even when my friends, who were coming in from New York, kept insisting that's where they wanted to be.Christmas in San Fran was relaxing and also the moment I discovered my plans.  The stage was set at the RenMar studios.  It was sounding as if it were going to be a party much like the infamous Xenii after hours that reaped havoc in this town for 2 years.   My friends trusted my word (I do live in this city after all...I probably know best), and we went with the party Mark Kayton decided to create. The party was everything I could have wanted and more.  The guest list was hand picked by Craig Clemens, Mark Kayton, and Joey Liebke.&nbs ...

Mac - The Apple Cult
2007-12-25 17:17:14
Yesterday I was doing some last minute Christmas shopping. I came to the Apple Store. Now, being it is Christmas Eve, you can image how nuts it was inside. But the point of this blog is not to complain about the long lines. It's more to explain the feeling I get when I was inside of the Apple Store. First of all, from a business perspective, Apple has done a phenomenal job with their marketing and branding of their company. The Ipod is by far the industry leader in portable music players. The computers have captured the industries of Audio, Video, and Photo editing. But even further, they have successfully captured loyal users that swear by the Code of Mac. But just like any other movement of followers, the crazies have entered this club. So many of these so called "Mac-Heads" are now so passionate about Mac, that it has become a sort of cult following. In reality, I'm weirded out by any sort of mass following like that. It is equally as weird that people sit in a Catho ...

The 2nd ".com" Era
2007-12-23 14:48:00
The advancement of technology in my lifetime is amazing to me. I remember a time when cell phones never existed and computers needed huge floppy disks in order to perform any task. Now normal people like me have websites for personal pleasure. It is quite a phenomena that the internet has become. In order for a business to legitimately be a business, it needs to have a website. And, in this day and age, it has to be a good quality website to legitimize a business. The late 90s/2000's brought the ".com" era. Then it flopped and the analysis began. Well here we are entering 2008, and I would say that a mini technology boom has started again. The website has transformed into much more than a visual entity. The trend is now shifting to interactive experiences that range from shopping, video gaming, blogging, video and audio streaming, and business functionality. And the bottom line is, we all can see this to be true through our own internet exploring. When I go to a site t ...
Christmas Time - Away for the Holidays
2007-12-23 14:28:46
It's my third time in my life ever that I haven't gone home to Michigan to spend Christmas with my family. Once in LA, once on a cruise, and now I am spending it in San Fran. The cruise wasn't that weird. Despite being in a tropical climate on a boat in the middle of the ocean, I was still with family and so it still felt like Christmas. But being in San Fran is kinda like LA. It just seems as if half the population has disappeared (it probably has). I admit, my sisters apartment is a bit more festive than mine (there's stockings hanging on the fireplace). I never really enjoyed decorating for Christmas. So I never do it. Although it's different, it's nice not having snow. If I could go the rest of my life without snow, I would not mind at all. But the fam lives in Michigan, so I deal with it almost every year. This year my purpose of Christmas may have presented itself. Yesterday my sister was talking about this dog that was up for adoption and how she wanted it. W ...
Dreamcatcher
2007-10-04 15:15:51
Recently I have been having these unbelievably vivid dreams. Not just the kind where you wake up and are like, "whoa!" These are on another level; where I can actually feel, taste, and smell the sensations that are surrounding me in the dream. Last night was a doozy...it was obvious to me what influences the dream came from: A little bit of Heroes and a little bit of Lord of the Rings (well this is the closest thing I can compare it to).The dream started on a beach. The beach was like the beaches in San Diego where the sand was met by cliffs; where the tide would rise and waves would slam against the rock. In these cliffs were a large series of caves. In these caves is where myself and a small population of people had lived for hundreds of years. Something horrible had happened and the world was overtaken by, what seemed to be, a perpetual storm. This storm was extremely violent and forced the ancestors of my people to seek shelter in the caves. Keeping us trapped in ...
Californication - Los Angeles...My Nation
2007-09-11 01:04:56
You know, it's utterly pathetic that on a Monday night, when all my work is done, all the TV shows and sports I enjoy watching are over (misleading statement - "all" is really only a few), and my apartment 65% clean, that I feel so bored, I literally am in a fist fight with myself trying to keep from going out.  It's not alcoholism.  It's not my social addiction.  It's this subconscious drive that has slowly been imprinted instinctually inside me that needs to be constantly doing something.  And I'm not talking about writing a blog, or playing the guitar here.  As much as I enjoy those things, they don't seem to quench this animal-like hunger I have for action.  But alas, as I have many things to do for work tomorrow, semi-early in the morning, I try to weigh myself down with the keyboard, praying my legs will fall asleep, preventing me from being able to walk out that door to another night on the town.Next topic...I don't know what it is, ...
To Be a Simpson - A Look Into LA Life Simpsonized
2007-08-03 20:16:47
In my mind, to be a Simpson is not just transforming a two dimensional picture into a funny looking cartoon character, it is to actually transformation of your "Self" into a Simpson.  Let's talk some situational examples:   Simpson LA Club Life  I arrive to Area and crowd is spilling out of the parking lot it's so busy.  I bring this new hot date that I'm so stoked to have out with me.  She is the flyest thing I've seen since last week.  I walk up and wave down Sanny to the long rope separating the people who are buying table service from the normal village folk.  She walks up and looks at my date and says, "Luis, you know we don't let in 'Blue Hairs'."  Oh well, later Marge.  Inside I go.  Immediately I see this fine blonde shakin her ass to Wreckx-n-Effect's "Rump Shaker".  Her long blonde hair almost matches her yellow skin.  Her big round eyes and rounded nose have me me ...
The Playboy Mansion - Kandyland II
2007-06-27 15:44:33
So last year I gave you the recap from the after party.  It was the first weekend I moved into Joey's.  I didn't go, but I got to see a good picture of what the party entailed from the people that made the trek from the mansion to Joey's place.  Girls in lingerie, guys all in white, and painted ladies. This year was not the same...it was magnified.  The Karma Foundation went way beyond what they did last year.  I sent the invitation out to my friends all over the country.  Many were interested, but in the end, I think the price tag ($1000 a guy, girls are free of course if they're hot enough to get picked for the party!!) just made it difficult for guys to justify that the party could be that good.  Well...it was!!  The money they spent on the decor alone was amazing.  Picture this:As I step out of the limo, we are greeted by Dylan Marer (one of the main guys at the Karma Foundation).  I am a VIP host for the Karma Foundation and I c ...
Web Solutions - The New Job

UPDATE!! I have moved onto the next step in my career.  After a month of searching, declining offers, and too many interviews to remember, I found my match.  Web Solutions MD takes my experience from the start-up in Austin, TX, and the small boutique company here in LA, along with my people skills, and puts it all together.  Now I'm your consultant, ready to take your web and database needs of your business to levels you probably have never dreamed of.  Problem is, many people don't have a good grasp on what is available to them as far as technology goes.  Well, this is where I come in.  I have always had the nack for creatively constructing a website, flier, newsletter, and even database.  Yes, I'm a closet computer geek.  Well now I have the company to back it and get the job done.  Check out the website: http://wsmdusa.com .  If you are interested in learning more about the company and what we have to offer, E-mail Me: l ...
Naked Chef
2007-02-19 14:55:14
Yesterday I was cooking breakfast in my boxer briefs.  It was hot and I didn't have any shorts handy.  Well obviously my friend there gets a kick out of it.  She kept harassing me to just take it off and cook naked, but I refused.  And if you know me, I'm not one to be shy as to not get naked when a cute girl asks!! ha ha.  That reminded me of a story.  A pretty damn funny one.  So I guess this blog can go into the "Laugh at Luis" series. When I lived in my one bedroom apartment a year and a half ago, I was always naked when I was home alone.  I mentioned it in some blog a while back, but basically I loved the freedom to just strip down at the door and walk around naked.  Well being that this was my first time living alone, I hadn't experienced this freedom.  But with all freedoms, there must be boundaries.  And I learned the boundaries thru experience. When I say I walked around naked, I did everything in my apartment n ...
Heroes
2007-02-07 11:56:22
Ok so officially...I'm absolutely hooked.  First of all, I've always been a "comic book" movie fan.  I read them when I was younger and I've always had a wild imagination.  The writers of Heroes are brilliant.  I find myself after each episode begging the TV on my knees for it not to be over.  The character development typically can be the boring part of the story.  For example, the first X-men was good.  I liked it...but much was spent developing each character.  Which is necessary, especially for the sequels. Heroes is different, it's the character development that has everyone all hyped.  The teases and glimpses of each one of their powers keeps you craving more.  Who, what, where next!?!?!?  I mean the politician is Claire's dad??  Micah has powers too!??!?  And you know Peter is not going to explode...although all images of the future elude to that.  The plot line of Heroes is developing nic ...
The Later Side of Things
2007-01-15 13:43:34
There's a weird phenomenon.  They say that the vampires come out at night to play.  I believe it.  If you have ever been to an after hours party, you know what I'm talking about.  The strangest of creatures are lurking the later it gets.  There are those that are bloodsuckers who suck the very life out of you.  Sometimes I meet some friends; the innocent ones who are  unaware of what is hiding behind every corner.  But don't worry, soon they too are corrupted, so the story goes. What is it that everyone wants to accomplish?  By 2am, everyone is plenty drunk.  But no, this isn't enough.  I'm not ready for bed yet!!  Perhaps it's the social addiction that drives hordes of people over to a undisclosed location until 15 minutes before the clock strikes 2.  Of course there are the exceptions like Jeff Greene, who plans parties that begin at 2am.  I admit, as I'm sure other people will as well, there's some added en ...
New Year's Day
2006-12-26 03:47:37
Another year comes to a close.  A rather exciting year for me. I feel I became quite settled in my new town.  I have tons of friends, and quality ones at that, that surround me.  I am living way above my means stretching my finances to the farthest point...but loving every minute of it!!!  Although I will admit, somehow this keeps me motivated to push on for that more "comfortable" lifestyle.  And let's not forget...I get to enjoy warm weather 90% of the year.  So there's no complaining here.  It's funny though, although I dread the cold in Michigan; even though my bedroom no longer exists at home, and the city I once menaced is a completely different town filled with yuppies and Starbucks rather than quaint little Donut Shops (ok so it's not that dramatic but you get my point); it's still soooooooooooooooo nice to escape LA and be brought back down to Earth.  Family is my roots, that's where I come from. This New Year's Eve cele ...
