Arrested Before BET Hip-Hop Awards 2007-10-14 09:37:40 Rapper T.I. was arrested yesterday (Oct. 13), just hours before he was set to perform at the BET Hip-Hop Awards in Atlanta, in a shopping center parking lot where ATF officials said he planned to pick up machine guns and silencers he had his bodyguard buy for him. T.I., born Clifford Joseph Harris, Jr., is charged with possession of unregistered machine guns and silencers, as well as possession of firearms by a convicted felon. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) executed a search warrant at his home, and according to U.S. attorney’s office spokesman Patrick Crosby, T.I., remains in custody. The arrest resulted from an investigation of an individual seeking to purchase a machine gun without registering the weapon as required by law. The individual tried to buy three unregistered machine guns and two silencers from an undercover ATF agent in exchange for $2,200 and a pistol.
