No More Traffic Exchange Rankings!
2007-08-04 22:26:53
As most of you are aware, I track hits religiously.  At first, there was a fairly decent interest in the traffic exchange rankings that I started a couple, three months ago.  However, at this point, there really isn’t.  That page is more than quiet.  No point in the effort if folks don’t want it or care about it.  Since I don’t spend a ton of time on the pute or dealing with computer related issues, I felt it only appropriate to  do this right.  I am discontinuing the Top 10.  I will continue to track those arriving at my sites via whatever method they’re arriving from and take advantage of that.  Unfortunately nobody else will benefit from it, but I guess that’s not been the case anyway.  I’m happy to forward what I know, when I know it, but I guess that’s largely up to you all.  Peace. T ...
10 Free SEO Tools
2007-08-03 09:31:20
We’ve talked a bit about Search Engine Optimization in the past and although I profess no special skill or expertise in the field, it is something I try to keep in mind with all my sites.  I’ve seen lots of free tools and the like, but today’s SiteProNews article I thought encapsulated things pretty well and offered an assortment that most can appreciate.  Anytime folks can generate effective tools in one location I think it merits a mention.  ...

2007-08-02 17:28:44
Search Bigdaddy and soon to be Bigdaddy.com are launching a foray into the public school system. This program is in it’s infancy at this point but has all the makings of becoming huge. Naturally, I’ve created yet another Blog in dedication to, and to follow this development. ...

Close Enough For Government Work?
2007-07-31 21:21:32
Close enough for the end of the month round-up regarding site status of Onequartlow.com methinks.  It won’t be 100% accurate as there are still some 5+ hours left for stats to accumulate, but what the heck?  In our third FULL month of stats I’m happy to report record breaking highs in all 5 of the stat categories tracked (at least via the main source).  In addition, I’m happy to report we managed our 1 millionth hit this month as total hits rolled in (at the time of writing) at 434,174 for the month of July besting June’s total of 366,839 by nearly 70,000 hits for a roughly 16% increase. All other categories had a like increase with page views leading the way with a 29% increase, followed by visits +12%, unique visitors +8% and bandwidth usage +25%. If you’re like me stats alone don’t mean a whole lot in and of themselves.  Onequartlow.com saw a marked increase in bot activity which obviously contributes to most all of the stats (minus uniqu ...
AMSOIL VS. MOBIL 1
2007-07-30 12:40:20
I still run into the occasional customer who believes Mobil 1 as a Synthetic is the Best Oil money can buy. I do NOT discount that Mobil 1 is a very good synthetic oil, because it is. If AMSOIL didn’t exist, that is the oil I would choose as well. However, thankfully for me and my engines, it’s AMSOIL only. Switching over our newest addition (07 Murano) in about a month when she has ran one Puke oil cycle…err…petroleum oil cycle. Here’s a reprint of the facts. Dispute em if you’d like, but you’ll be wrong. Peace! They Say Nothing Outperforms Mobil 1? Wrong! AMSOIL INC. set out to examine the specifics of the overly broad “Nothing Outperforms…” Mobil claim. AMSOIL 5W-30 Synthetic Motor Oil (ASL) and Mobil 1 SuperSyn 5W-30 Motor Oil were analyzed in five key bench tests measuring motor oil performance: NOACK volatility, flash/fire point, pour point, four ball wear and total base number (TBN). As shown in the charts belo ...
Food Recall Expanded
2007-07-28 14:10:52
The Food and Drug Administration has announced a nationwide recall involving certain canned foods and some dog foods as a result of a positive botulism case which may have been caused by canned Kroger Chili with beans.  Botulism can be lethal in very small doses.  Here is the list of products.  Is it me or is this starting to get old? ...
“A Review Of The Online Marketing Monthly Magazine.”
2007-07-26 17:10:43
The much heralded first issue of the Online Marketing Magazine finally arrived at my doorstep earlier this week (Monday).  Fortunately, I was able to take it with me to the wet side of the State on business and managed to pretty much inhale it from cover to cover.  Like many initial publications, OMM ran into a slew of unexpected issues and problems with distribution.  Often a problem in the magazine and newspaper fields, distributing large amounts of anything all around the country isn’t easy.  Given the relative experience and knowledge of those running this particular publication, this probably shouldn’t have been as damaging an issue as it was.  In his “from the publisher” section on the inside cover, Nathan Anderson gives a brief synopsis of his background including a discussion of having “come from the world of publishing” being a part owner of a magazine publishing company in Central America. Although Editor Rick Butts doesn’t h ...

“Is Content Still King?”
2007-07-23 13:31:06
If you’ve spent anytime whatsoever on-line either working your own website(s), pushing affiliate sites, social networking, or simply blogging, you have no doubt seen the term Search Engine Optimization (SEO).  File blogtommy under the “Jack of all trades, Master of None” heading, but yes I profess little expertise in this area as well.  I don’t know about you, but I’m starting to see a trend here…sorry. However, as is the case with most things, expertise is a relative term.  Lorelle, on WordPress mentions a post entitled “Bloggers are not webmasters and Webmasters are not Bloggers.”  The post does a good job of defining roles and discussing the actual dichotomy between these different types of folks.  I would argue that we can extrapolate further here and actually submit that this argument can be made in reference to general business practice as well.  “Huh?”, the audience groans. I would argue that specialization is ...
“Google Gobbles Again”
2007-07-22 12:40:46
Another feather added to the quiver, Google announced late Friday the acquisition of yet another tech. company.  Adding ImageAmerica to it’s arsenal appears to be a very strong signal that Google will continue to focus efforts on their Maps and Earth offerings.  This relationship was not new or fleeting however, as Google had used images from IA as far back as 2005 after Hurricane Katrina. Although it’s easy to point to a powerhouse company such as Google and say “yeah, do it that way,” it may nevertheless be relevant to take a snapshot of some of the company behavior as it relates to business.   Can the little guy learn anything from a corporate giant?  Sure. Google’s business sense is probably unrivaled in today’s landscape, and although there are a plethora of reasons surrounding success, one that jumps out at me and has for sometime is what I term the “inclusive” factor.  Specifically, Google seems to have something for every ...

Dead Or Alive Harry Potter Captivates!
2007-07-21 11:56:52
Does it really matter if Harry Potter dies or not?  I’m guessing he has to, but not having seriously followed the 7 book series makes me less than an expert on the subject.  What is interesting however is the cult following that JK Rowling has managed with this series.  Released just under 10 hours ago, “Deathly Hallows” has already shot to number one on the Barnes and Noble Best Selling List. What, if anything, can the magic of Harry Potter teach the aspiring business person?  I think in principle, the success of any business requires a lot of puzzle pieces coming together just right.  There will always be an element of luck involved as well.  Getting your break as it were, is potentially the biggest obstacle for entrepreneurs. Aside from that which one cannot control,  I maintain a type of Jim Cramer approach.  I believe fervently that doing something you want, like, or are gifted at, in the end will see more success than just jumping at the next best &ld ...
Cramer Vs. Kramer
2007-07-16 12:51:59
Sometimes I confound even myself! Good Monday Morning folks. This post won’t have much to do with Michael Richards I’m afraid, although since his stand-up tirade there have been a few! This weekend I watched Tim Russert interview Jim Cramer and parts of the interview really hit home with me. I saw somewhere on-line (prior to me watching this interview), an ad that related in a way. The ad basically said “MLM (Multi-Level Marketing) is not about products. It’s about you.” Although there certainly is some truth to the ad in the sense that products largely “don’t sell themselves,” and that generally some type of marketing system is required. This attitude is what separates the internet marketer from the traditional businessperson. Everywhere on-line it seems, we see systems and methodology being sold at the expense of anything tangible. Digital products and e-this’s and e-that’s cover the internet landscape. Don’t ...
Hablas Espanol?
2007-07-15 13:51:15
I originally hadn’t thought about including today’s Amsoil Rocks blog entry here at Onequartlow, but thought it makes sense from a bigger business and marketing standpoint as well.  Economically, the Hispanic population is rapidly outspending the non-Hispanic population in the United States with no reversal in sight.  If you haven’t considered whether or not your business can service a non-English speaking population, and strategies to make this come to fruition, you may be falling short in bringing your business to the next level.  This article gives some very good quality insight regarding this subject and I highly recommend any aspiring business person to give it a look.  As always…….Remember……. Don’t be a Dipstick ...
Page Views Going Way Of The Dinosaur!
2007-07-09 18:33:23
Two posts in one day!  Nielsen Net Ratings, a fairly popular website monitoring service, is expected to announce tomorrow that they are altering the way they measure website popularity.  Although at first glance, this may seem somewhat mundane since the industry has been moving in this direction for some time.   Not the dashing prince it once was,  the “page view” has been shrinking from the web industry’s conscience for some time, but Nielsen’s move is likely to spurn an avalanche towards more auto refreshing and other fairly underutilized web tools that are still far from perfected in most circles, and I thought Ajax was a drain cleaner.  Let that one “sink in” a second….. Apologies.  So what might this mean?  I’m guessing it’s way too soon to tell, especially when one doesn’t know how the competition and web sect will respond to this announcement.  I think it is safe to say however, that this puts Yahoo back on ...
Blackhawk Down!
2007-07-09 12:49:06
Automate your business now! Put your business on autopilot. Set it and forget it. You’ve seen em. With apologies to the legendary Ron Popeil I’m going to have to throw a bit of a typhoon on this parade. Marketing gurus love to play with the analogy and for the most part suck eggs at it. In my own twisted sense, I tend to tear into bad analogies like a freshly shucked ear of corn. Can you relate? Sure you can, because I’m good at this stuff. What does the term “autopilot” mean to you? I picture a 757 from the front end in frame one with two goofy pilots holding their arms over their heads shouting “look mom, no hands.” Frame Grab 2 sees smoke in the cockpit and those same hands working feverishly to fix the problem. You can fill in the third frame anyway you would like. If you remember the psychology test I wanted you to take way back at the beginning of this adventure, you’ll have an idea how you’d probably end this story ...
