Google Slaps Paid Linking Strategists a New Knot!
2007-10-25 13:09:33
In a somewhat surly mood of late, Google has taken out the corporate whipping stick one more time to slap knots on the domes of those utilizing paid linking strategies. MarketingVox and others are reporting that Google continues to mess, manipulate, and otherwise confound SEO experts the worldwide with it’s seemingly arbitrary moves regarding page rank issues in particular, but overall search relevancy in general, as well. I said sometime ago, that the Nielson moves would likely see the page rank go the way of the dinosaur, but when Google actually starts tinkering with those mechanisms I think it’s fair to suggest we aint in Kansas any more Toto. If we’ve learned nothing from Google through the years, we ought to not be surprised by these moves. Without question Google is not interested in simply maintaining it’s stranglehold on the search engine turf. These guys will continue to poke and prod looking for the very jugular that will not only render the compe ...

Microsoft Outflanks Google & Yahoo In Facebook Deal
2007-10-25 12:32:01
After much anticipation and rumor, Microsoft has agreed to invest $240 million into Facebook for a 1.6 percent stake in the company. This values the social networking site at $15 billion, $5 billion higher than previous estimates. The sealed deal leaves Yahoo and Google, who’ve also been courting Facebook for the past two months, in the dust, reports the New York Times. Facebook continues to flaunt some lofty numbers claiming a realistic goal of some 60 million by 2008. This was a rare, yet coveted victory for Microsoft in their epic battles with the other search engine top dogs. ...

Lady Bug’s And Business
2007-10-22 11:42:59
Most who know me, know that I’m a relatively “green” type guy. I don’t go spiking trees or getting too crazy with the environmental stuff, but I do think it’s an important issue. I believe the planet is on rent status and as tenants we have some obligation to maintain it as best we can. So this morning while browsing some environmental news, I stumbled upon an interesting article about Lady bugs which got me thinking. As an avid gardener for many years, I already knew the wonderful utility of having Lady Bugs grace the garden landscape. These little critters devour the evil bugs, their eggs and larvae at a rate that is hard to imagine. So when I saw NY attempting to utilize these little fellas in a much broader, grander sense, it brought a little smile to my face. Then I wondered, how can I tie in something like this into the business/marketing blog? Are their any similarities or lessons that can be gleaned here? Today, I’d like to challenge you ...
Oil & Energy Woes Continue To Influence Fragile Economy
2007-10-16 23:54:34
Steven Mufson of the Washington Post captures the essence of the energy question as it relates to a very fragile American Economy.  This article does a very nice job of discussing the level of importance Oil and Energy have garnered in the current economic landscape.  Unfortunately, there does not appear to be any reversals in this frightening trend anytime in our near future.  www.onequartlow.com ...

5 Cool Websites Nobody Knows About! Courtesy of Jim Edwards. The following websites warrant a close look simply because they rate so darn useful! In fact, you might just want to tear this article out of the paper right now and put it up on your fridge — because I know you’ll need it sooner or later! * Hard to Find 800 #’s * Let’s face it. When you want customer support, it seems like the phone number you need is the last phone number on earth you can find, especially a toll-free support number. Enter www.HardToFind800Numbers.com to the rescue. The tag line on the site sums up the service, “You keep them in business. Yet they hide from you. Until now.” Boasting 800 numbers for Microsoft, Amazon, eBay, Paypal and more, the site makes it easier to avoid adding insult to injury by paying per-minute for the privilege of waiting on hold. * Rentometer.com * www.Rentometer.com enables you to compare rental rates on one property or apartment against rents in the surroundi ...
What Fantasy Football Can Teach Us About Business
2007-10-12 09:05:02
For years I’ve had a bit of an addiction. I’ve been a fantasy football nut for as long as I’ve been able to access the World Wide Web. Sports has always provided a pretty good analogy for just about anything in this world. Probably largely because so many people follow sports. For three years now I’ve competed in an elite designer league in football. I don’t have the time, nor space to go into details regarding the league and how it works. Suffice it to say, after pouring heart and soul into this league every year for three years, I walked away last night. Quit. Threw in the towel. The league creator has always had friends and relatives in the league and has always provided them with some form of preferential treatment. His, and their philosophy is basically, do what you can to win. Cheat, twist rules, create new beneficial rules for the few, and at all costs look out for number one. Many marketers suffer from this same personality defect. You& ...
“Bet On The Turtle”
2007-10-08 11:05:38
Time is money. You snooze you lose. Never again will the price be this low. Today only. You’ve seen em, probably even believed em. All the catch slogans marketers and advertisers dream up to convince you, the consumer, that NOW is the time for you to hand over your hard earned scratch. Although there are tons of ways marketers play on this very powerful human emotional weakness, the general idea is that you’ll lose (something–money, prestige, not be in the in crowd—something) if you don’t purchase or otherwise act NOW. Some of the pitches and lines are quite hilarious, if not still somewhat effective. We are a fast moving, “gimme now” based race. Long term planning and thinking about things 10-15 minutes down the road is a stretch for many of us, let alone 10-15 years. AMSOIL’s Marketing guru, Ed Newman writes a wonderful article about the power and strength associated with slow, gradual, incremental change. I suggested at ...

Build Your Business; Burn Your List!
2007-09-27 23:16:38
We’ve touched on this earlier in the series but today I wanted to reiterate the importance of focus in your on or off-line business venture. Too many internet types out there swear by the need to build a “list.” Although the concept makes sense, and the lure of having a ready made, one click audience may sound good, it really deters you from the real business at hand, making sales. If you’ve seen them once, you’ve seen them a million times. The gurus preaching that if you’re not “building your list,” you’re not going to make it or some such stuff. The “build it and they will come” mentality makes sense in a very basic, kind of way, but if you’re new to marketing, or just trying to get going, don’t get too hung up on your “list building.” I don’t have a list. I have multiple 3-ring binders! Inside these binders are real, living, breathing, buying customers. They aren’t purcha ...
Advertising $$ Slumps
2007-09-24 12:04:13
Not terribly surprising, MarketingVOX is reporting that advertising budgets all across the US were slashed during the first quarter of 2007.  Also not terribly surprising is that whereas advertising spending slumped in every normal sector of the economy, Internet advertising jumped by over 20% during that same period.  “US ad spend in the first half of 2007 was down 0.5 percent over the year-earlier period, with internet ad spend - up 23.6 percent - outperforming other media, according to preliminary figures from Nielsen, MarketingCharts reports.”  Many reasons probably attribute to this trend, but chief amongst them I would argue is the relative inexpensive nature, coupled with the ease and variety of opportunity associated with internet advertising that more traditional advertising markets do not offer. Underlying most of this is obviously an overall downturn in most sectors of the economy which lends a premium to “cheaper” or more affordable advertising b ...

Blogtommy’s Sponsor Makes Company History!
2007-09-21 12:29:03
In this month’s ACTION NEWS, the man who is my up-line sponsor, Dave Mann is singled out for making AMSOIL history (no small feat since the company’s 35 years old)!  Dave has become the first Six Star Regency Platinum Direct Jobber in AMSOIL history.  President and CEO A.J. “Al” Amatuzio wrote about him in his exclusive front inside cover piece From The President’s Desk.  Although obviously the accomplishment is noteworthy and I wholeheartedly congratulate Dave on it, what I think sets our group apart is also fully manifested in Dave, but not mentioned by Mr. Amatuzio or in the cover story on Dave on the very next page.  For a Big Dog, and I think it’s clear, Dave is a big dog in the company, he also strikes me as a humble, helpful person who doesn’t only pick and choose who he wants to assist along the way based on the relative income he may get from it.  All over MLM land you see this.  You have an up-line sponsor who seems to do anythi ...

Preferred Customer Program Still Hot
2007-09-19 20:44:37
Every now and again I run into the occasional AMSOIL customer who is just that, a customer.  Not everyone opts for the dealership option and many would simply prefer to get wholesale pricing like the Dealers do.  AMSOIL makes this option attractive to many because of their inexpensive Preferred Customer Program.  Although most in my group are Dealers, the Preferred Customer Option is a wonderful option for those just wanting wholesale pricing on the world’s best synthetics.  ...
Blog-o-licious
2007-09-17 11:52:19
It’s really starting to pile up. Marketing VOX reports that this blog thing is really starting to attract important types. Hold on to your hats folks….The Blog Era has been born again and is going to try an arena hitherto ignored….the Respect arena….Yesterday or the day before I talked about a new tool for bloggers…ahhh…Not sure I need the hammer, but hear me pounding your head into submission?…LOL…I mean really….This just doesn’t get any more obvious. ComScore has announced it will begin measuring blog readership numbers, as well as those of social networks, reports eWeek. The measurement firm will soon release what it’s calling the Conversational Media Report, a nod to the blogosphere’s informal tone. In a statement, comScore said it is working with John Battelle’s Federated Media to find both well-known blogs, and blogs with smaller traffic numbers as well. Measurement numbers from a respected ...
New Tool For Bloggers
2007-09-15 12:44:17
This one is already making the rounds. John Reese has just released a tool for bloggers that everyone will have at some point. Although some are already misrepresenting that this sort of traffic generation tool specific to blogs has NEVER been done before (it has), the niche is never-the-less, quite open and bloggers will undoubtedly jump on this. I just joined and would welcome those interested to join my team. ...
