2007-10-19 21:15:00
As more communities request toll roads in their neighborhoods, theTennessee Department of Transportation has outlined its criteria forbuilding the first one.Chief among them: Is it a time-saver for motorists, and what are the odds it will succeed financially?Toll bridges crossing the Mississippi River in Memphis and theTennessee River near Chattanooga are under consideration from TDOT, inaddition to a Hadley Bend area connector road that would provide ashorter route over the Cumberland River between Sumner and Davidsoncounties.Since the Tennessee Tollway Act, passed this year, allows the state toinitially build one toll bridge and one toll highway project, morerequests could mean more competition for a possible new MiddleTennessee bridge.
