Japanese Car Importers in Australia
2007-09-23 07:45:44
We’ve been asked a few questions on exactly who imports cars in Australia, specifically Japanese cars.
Well there are quite a few, and if you’re in Australia you’re spoiled for choice when it comes to decent service, price and model availability. Here we have a short and sweet list of some we hear have done very well by their customers.

Subaru WRX STi Pics Caught With Pants Down!
2007-09-21 06:59:54
The new Subaru Impreza WRX STi has been caught in the flesh by Autoblog with next to no clothes on (Ok, maybe a bit of black lingerie).
It looks like the nasty rear wing is no more (which is good as it would look a little astray on the new hatchback only format) and has been replaced with something a little neater in line with the more subtle design philosophy, the scoop seems sleeker, and there’s dainty little scoops on the front bumper.
Head over to Autoblog’s gallery to see the new high res pics.

Got 800HP R34 Sedan?
2007-09-21 06:12:29
Every now and again something special comes up on importer J-Spec’s vast site, something very special indeed.
Killer 34 Sedan: 800HP from a T51R & Stroker combo
Say a loud ‘Konichiwa’ to this worked R34 Sedan given a makeover with a HKS 2.8L Stroker, HKS T51R turbo, HKS F Con V Pro, a full roll cage, Brembo F50 brakes (!!), OS 4 plate clutch on the 5-speed manual, and tonnes of other fine goodies to make everyone weep come track day. All for a measly AU$45,000. Bargain. Just a shame it can’t be road registered…

Nissan GT-R Preorders Start Oct 20th, Comes in Three Trim Levels
2007-09-21 05:40:21
The Nissan GT-R will apparently arrive in three trim levels, though what those are exactly hasn’t been released.
Additionally, preorders for the GT-R are expected to start come October 20, with public release still expected on the 24th to coincide with the Tokyo Motorshow press day (as we said here). Interestingly, orders cannot be cancelled. Personally we think if you had the dosh, you’d be mad to cancel.

Mugen RR Sells Out in Ten Minutes
2007-09-19 06:01:04
According to Autoblog, all 300 limited edition Type R based Mugen RR Civics have been either bought or reserved.
On September 14th at 9:00 AM local time in Japan, reservations opened for the RR. By 9:10 AM all reservation slots were filled, well in advance of the release date expected around January. Capable of doing Tsukuba in 1:06:38, the RR sets each new owner back a hefty ¥4.7million, but comes with a mighty 177kW naturally aspirated 4 cylinder and weighs just 1240kg in full trim.

TRD Aurion tested
2007-09-17 07:15:17
CarAdvice have tested the new TRD Aurion. We recently talked about the 241KW supercharged TRD Aurion and it’s big-power-on-the-fronts idea and also about how expensive this performance family barge is. What we didn’t expect was how bad CarAdvice found the FWD, or the news that the automatic, even in manual mode, shifts slowly.
For anyone who’s driven any type of performance car, quick shifts are what makes or breaks a spirited drive through the hills, off the line or even down to the local shops for the groceries - slow shifts kill a performance car.
Give the review a read. It could be the harshest you’ll read, but we think it’s right on the money.

New Subaru Turbodiesel Boxer Engine
2007-09-17 06:29:42
Browsing the local blogosphere (PaulTan.org to be exact) we were surprised to hear news that the previously announced Subaru Turbodiesel Boxer engine has been on show at Frankfurt. The new motor is the first of it’s kind, a horizontally opposed turbo diesel four cylinder engine, and we expect it’ll be in a variant of the new Impreza, and perhaps the local Liberty in the future.
Power comes in at 110KW (147HP), which is on par with the naturally aspirated 2.0L petrol engine. Torque comes in with a meaty 350Nm of torque. The engine is 2.0L in capacity.
There’s no mention of fuel efficiency, but you can expect it to be good, even better than the petrol N/A. With that much torque, you could almost use an hypothetical turbodiesel Boxer Impreza as a tow car.

Honda Accord Tourer Concept
2007-09-15 07:16:51
At this years Frankfurt Motorshow, Honda hasn’t been resting on it’s laurels. Instead they’ve given us a beautiful concept tourer (or wagon, depends on what your idea of a wagon is). It’s clear Honda have their sights set on giving us back a solid Honda wagon along the lines of the Accord Wagon, not seen in the US and Australia since the fifth-generation Accord - although wagon production continues in European and Japanese markets.
Specifications remain relatively unchanged from the Accord Euro, with the the 2.0- and 2.4-litre gas engines, although Honda’s 2.2-litre diesel will be an option when it goes into production. The Tourer concept also sports 4 doors, a longer track and width to improve handling and cargo space.

2008 Subaru Impreza WRX STi - Not quite Real Photos
2007-09-14 10:22:10
There’s nothing worse than getting all giddy and excited, and then have hopes dashed by learning that the photos in Best Car, a popular Japanese car mag are renderings (but damn good ones). Some good news prevails, with some key specifications about the STi, though we’ll have to label these as ‘tentative’ until it all comes out proper (they aren’t expected to differ much though). Check it out:
Engine/Transmission: EJ20 / 6MT
Power: 300PS (295 hp) @ 6500 RPM
Torque: 45 kgm (325 lb-ft) @ 4400 RPM
Fuel Economy: 10.5 km/l (24.7 US MPG) in the Japanese 10-15 mode test cycle
So a near 300HP (an upgraded air intake away) car with 10.5km/l fuel economy. Sounds good to us! And for the rendered pics, check em out here:

Frankfurt Motorshow 2007: Toyota iQ
2007-09-14 09:48:01
Sometimes a car you’ve never heard of is thrown up in the media as rumours, and sometimes it’s thrown up at a motorshow. The Toyota iQ is the latter, a strange looking small car that could be a (dimension-wise) smaller version of the Prius, though this is expected to run on a small gas or diesel motor below 1.5L.
The Toyota iQ. Click to enlarge.
Apart from looking somewhat like a rabbit, the Echo, the iQ sports an interesting 3+1 configuration, where the standard 2 seater setup is transformed into 3 by a third seat is flipped up in the back. The car is expected to have a front mounted engine, with power delivered through the front wheels.
The iQ is slated to go on sale in Europe in 2009, with no word on other markets.
