Ladybug Necklace & Earrings- To be
2007-12-29 12:14:54
I’ve been working on this set of earrings and necklace today.  Started making the earrings early this morning and while making them I created the necklace in my mind.  Each leaf and ladybug is hand formed and sculpted.  The leaves have been antiqued with burnt umber and clear acrylic mixed, then the black dots were added to the ladybugs wings, all were heat set when dry, and then everything was hand buffed.  I photographed them on a 6×6 in. tile with a penny beside the earrings and a ruler along the left side.  The ladybugs are the smallest thing I have worked on yet and I’m quite pleased with how they turned out. The top two are the earrings, the lone bead in the middle is the adjustable slide bead.  I’ll be stringing the necklace on leather cord with both ends running through the slide.  The bottom 2 leaf beads will dangle at the ends of the leather.  The bottom middle bead is the pendant.  I hope to get this finished tonight.  Here’s a closeu ...

Review- “Simply Ornaments and More” CD
2007-12-27 23:29:57
I recently purchased the “Simply Ornaments and More, 1002 Designs in Polymer Clay” CD by Maria Maestri. One of the members of PCC had mentioned it in the forum and upon checking out the website I knew I had to have it. I loved the 2 free tutorials that she had on her site and the photos of the ornaments were just adorable so I ordered it right away. As soon as I got the CD I popped it in and let it load. The CD was written with an e-book software program, and is very well done although it does take a few minutes to load, due to the execute files and all the images. There are 2 volumes on the CD and each has an index with categories and each of those categories has a thumbnail page from which you choose the ornament you’d like to create. Her pictures for the tutorials are very well done, there is very little text in the tutorials but the concept is there with the step by step pictures. I believe the author did it that way so we could put our own twist on her des ...
Christmas ornaments & gifts
2007-12-26 09:44:07
I hope that everyone had a wonderful Christmas! I know I did Now that Christmas is over I can share some pictures of gifts that I made. I made each of my daughters and grandchildren an ornament for tree and another gift. For my 4 grandsons I sculpted red dragons and strung them on rubber cord for necklaces, they all loved them. One of my granddaughters has a pet fish, so I sculpted a pink and purple fish (her favorite colors) and added pearls and glitter and made it into a necklace. She was tickled pink.  I made my eldest daughter a poinsettia ornament based on a glass bulb with translucent clay and glitter. I also made a replacement sculpted turtle necklace for my youngest granddaughter, the first one I had made her got his leg broke while it was banging around in the bottom of her bookbag on the school bus.  She was so heartbroke when it’s leg broke that I just had to make a replacement for her.  The new turtle is smaller and has short fat legs that don&rsquo ...

Squirrelly thoughts and photos
2007-12-16 10:52:01
We have alot of oak trees on the property and because of the acorns we have an abundance of squirrels. There are always squirrels running around the yard and one even comes to my window to peek in. The photos that I’m sharing now aren’t of that squirrel though as my movements frightened this one and it ran off. The photos are taken with my 5.2 megapixel digital camera, flash off, zoom on for the first few pictures and then the last few with the zoom off. They are shot through a foggy antique glass window and screen so they’re not the best of photos, but they’re in sequence. This squirrel has alot of white in it as several of our local squirrels do. I haven’t seen the deer lately but I’ve had my camera ready ...
Holiday Cookie Favorites-Aunt Ruth’s Raisin Puffs
2007-12-16 06:33:47
The holidays were always a time of baking for my family.  There were always huge batches of cookies being made to have available for holiday get togethers and such.  I used to love to help my mom and grandma bake, not only did I learn how to make all the special cookies but I got to sample them too.  The Raisin Puffs were my grandma’s sister Ruth’s recipe and a family favorite.  I have inherited my grandma and mom’s recipe boxes and will pass them on to my eldest daughter, continuing the tradition.  In the meantime I’ll share my favorite recipes with my readers.  Here is the recipe for Aunt Ruth’s Raisin Puffs straight from grandma’s recipe box: Aunt Ruth’s Raisin Puffs 1# box dark raisins cooked in 1 cup water until water is gone and raisins are plump, cool 1 1/2 cup sugar 1 cup shortening 2 eggs 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon salt 3 1/2 cup all purpose flour 1 teaspoon vanilla Cream sugar and shortening, beat the eggs and add to mi ...
