Two Things Challenge - Intricate/Interlace
2007-11-13 10:20:44
Susan Elkin posted yesterday for the first time in awhile. Her post will tell you what has been going on for us that has made the last 2 - 3 months pretty difficult. I hope you will stop by and say hi!
Here is my contribution for the 2 Things Challenge. The deal is that anyone can participate and enter your own entry. This week the challenge is Intricate and Interlace in one image. I think this shows both in one image. But the image is so intricate I had a hard time with my signature … but it is so *intricate* that none of the colors from the painting really worked - they all disappeared. But eventually I tried a totally different solution that works for me.

Having joined Worldwide Women Artists Online (wwao), I have been inspired to tweak up my networking in general that I am doing. I have put up a first video at my YouTube. It is pretty clumsy - but I did something! And I did some work on my BlogCatalog which lists differ ...

Create Every Day - November Challenge
2007-11-12 14:10:00
Sue O’Kieffe on he Sacred Circle Mandalas wrote a post about creating every day in November with a link to another blog. Each November there is an encouragement to Create Every Day. It must be a companion to November being Writers’ Month where writers write every day. Leah Piken of Blue Tree Art Gallery has a blog where you can register to join in. I would think many of you would like to join in!! It can be any medium at all - what you usually do or a new one. I look forward to what you create!
Poetic Mountain at Night, Digital © Diane Clancy
This is the Scales image at a different time of day - or should I say night. And it seems to me that instead Scales that other painting has a “real name” of Poetic Mountain. Unless you have other suggestions … but I think it fits.
I am pretty excited that you are enjoying the bubbles so much! I love creating them! And having an audience for something like this enhances the process so much!! I would love to ...

Keeping Up
2007-11-11 17:08:18
Have you ever let anything go for a bit and then it all pile up on you? I bet most of you have! I have usually been faithful about keeping up with business records, but I hadn’t been for the last 5 or 6 months. Things that I am SURE I will NEVER forget, I look at them and go “What?” And I use a database to keep track of all sales because I want to be able to show that there is a market for my paintings. So, there is an entry for every card sale, print sale, etc. - for each image that I have. So a little overwhelming. I am not sure if I am making things way too hard for myself … but this is the track I am on. It is no big deal if I enter data pretty quickly (for the most part).

But I also have quite a bit of items on consignment in local stores … and so when they send me a check, most of them don’t say WHICH card or mat sold. So someday I should go figure that all out. I guess. Outright sales are mu ...

Illustrator Friday - Scale
2007-11-10 06:04:16
This weeks Illustrator Friday has a topic of Scale. I decided to do a little double or triple duty with the word scale. These bubbles are scaling the mountain. The size of the bubbles going up the mountain are in scale. And the texture of the mountain is scale. I loved looking at other people’s images this week because they have so many variations of the meaning of scale.

Two Things Challenge - Nature/Civilization
2007-11-09 06:30:50
Here is my contribution for the 2 Things Challenge. The deal is that anyone can participate and enter your own entry. This week the challenge is Nature and Civilization in one image. I think this shows both in one image. I knew what I wanted to do but it took me awhile to get time to do it. I came across this chair floating in the ocean and just knew I had to get a photo! Perhaps you see a signature ….

Illustrator Friday - Hat
2007-11-08 06:17:28
I decided to do my Illustrator Friday … and the topic this week is “Hat.” Here is my digital painting and a few words to go with it. I knew what I wanted to do but it took me awhile to get time to do it.

Freedom and Choice
2007-11-07 08:37:52
Many crave the idea of freedom - being about to do what we want when we want. Some of our countries are even founded on this idea and many of our countries certainly have freedom as an ideal. And it certainly sounds romantic to have no responsibilities and no demands! But sometimes lack of structure can be difficult.
Let me be clear - freedom is important and necessary!! The lack of freedoms in many countries and the erosion of them in most others is not ok with me!! This is not what I am speaking about!! Freedom is actually quite different from lack of structure.

Yet, sometimes having fewer choices is actually easier than having many, many choices! I know with my creative work I often create artificial constraints to have a direction to go in … to basically give myself a problem to solve. I choose … and I am lucky to have the choice!! … to restrict things to make decisions easier.

More Choices
2007-11-06 12:52:33
When I was a lot younger, I was delighted to be involved in things. I used to spend hours and hours embroidering mushrooms on denim jeans that had holes in them. It seemed enough to beautify. I was so happy to have a focus for creativity - though I didn’t use those words for it.
Autumn Imagination, Digital © Diane Clancy
When working for alternative energies and against energies that were destructive to the environment, I was so happy to have a focus to work with others to create a better world. Out of a school environment, it was hard to connect with others and find constructive projects to do. I thrived on finding myself in a community where we were working to better life.
Things have sure changed for me! I don’t know how much the world and culture has changed and how much it is me who has changed. Now there seems no shortage of ways to create beauty and to make the world a better place to live! Also, now I am a self-defined artist and working to create community and i ...

Fantastic Comments in Last Post!!
2007-11-05 16:14:35
Your comments on prioritizing have been fantastic! I have read each one as they come in. Tomorrow is another day to catch up with blogs and comments. I feel less alone in struggling with priorities and I hope you do too! I encourage to read all the thoughtful comments in the last post.

Making Choices
2007-11-04 10:30:51
Here is another image from my Bubblescape series. It is more for the summer in some ways … but it can also be about feeling like the fire is lit under one … and the pressure is on! Prioritizing and making choices is my topic for the day. I am very curious how you prioritize.
Sultry Reflections, Digital © Diane Clancy
It helps when I feel well physically, emotionally and spiritually because then I mostly go within, look at lists of highest priorities and ask my guidance system to direct my next move. Then more balanced I am, the easier this is do to!
I am so excited to be involved with the WWAO (Worldwide Women Artists Online) and VAST - Etsy (Visual Artists Street Team)! These new networks of women artists who are selling their work online is great for me! Such a wonderful addition to the fantastic people I have met through this blog!
And it is another 2 whole sets of ways of doing things and learning about them. I think I have absorbed the beginnings of how to do ...

ACEO’s At Etsy
2007-11-03 17:39:33
Starting to get caught up … but not on your blogs yet! Today I put several ACEOs (editions) in my Etsy Shop. I would love it if you took a peek. I haven’t finished deciding about my signature yet, so I did not put any signatures on them. I am the one who will be sending the items so I can put my signature on the back and also send a business card. Tomorrow I should be able to see your blogs. I did read every single word anyone wrote lately … thank you so much!!

Two Things Challenge - Poetic/Prosaic
2007-11-01 02:35:11
Some of our most faithful readers and commenter’s are very active in the 2 Things Challenge. The deal is that anyone can participate and enter your own entry. This week the challenge is Poetic and Prosaic in one image. I think this is poetic … and that chunk of rock is prosaic. I have started to join in on some of the different challenges that blogs sponsor to network and connect more with other artists. So this is my second 2 Things Challenge.

Question for You
2007-10-30 10:08:15
Some of you have bought work of mine and others have said you plan to. So, as my customers, I have a question for you. Last night I brought some of my cups tiles, postcards and more from my CafePress Shop to my art business class. They loved the merchandise and thought it looked great! But they has one problem with it - my name is not on the mugs and all at all.
All Directions at Once, Digital © Diane Clancy
When I ship from my Etsy Shop, I send a business card and they know it is from me. I can also sign the print or card if they would like me to.
I explained to the class that with the merchandise from CafePress there was no way to put my name with the products. They get shipped directly to the customer. They then wanted me to put my name on the image itself that I upload for CafePress to print from.
That is the only way to have my name associated with the image. I want to know what you think. I am of mixed minds. In one way I can understand their concerns - sure it would be gr ...
