Some 80,000 to 100,000 or more examinees are expected to take the NLE in June 2008. The Labor department issued a warning on Monday against recruiters collecting excessive fees from applicants. Labor Secretary Arturo Brion urged nurses or nursing graduates who have been offered jobs in New Zealand in exchange for exorbitant fees to report these individuals or agencies to the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration for the filing of appropriate charges. Reports reaching the Department of Labor and Employment indicate that Filipino nurses offered jobs in New Zealand had to pay between P500,000 and P700,000 to manpower agencies that brokered for their deployment. Upon arrival in New Zealand, the recruited nurses were placed in rest homes for which they were automatically billed 15 percent of their monthly salary.
